I took AI-First Product Management course recently. Good overall for a beginner. It focuses more on digital products at some points rather than general product management. However, the instructor is... もっと見る

I loved the instructor. The registration and onboarding process was confusing and the person who assisted me was quite rude. Finding a job after graduating the course has been extremely difficult.... もっと見る

Javascript Development Course Feb-Apr 2023
Course: General Assembly Javascript course
Duration: 10 weeks (Feb-Apr 2023), 6 hours of classes per week, plus optional couple hours with the junior devs if booked in advance
Format: Online
Cost: £3000 (discounted to £2700 as I am an NHS worker)
No. of students: 25
No. of teachers: 1 senior front-end web developer, 2 junior developers who'd recently finished the General Assembly full-time bootcamp.
I have decided the value of this course to me was around £1000, (equivalent to £50 per 3 hour delivered session).
Negatives:
- The first few weeks did not differ in content or teaching methods from a £10 Udemy web-development bootcamp.
- We had 3 pieces of homework and 1 final project. The 3 pieces of homework received 1 line of feedback each. I was anticipating more detailed feedback suggesting improvements to the semantics or formatting of how I coded.
- The class size was bigger than I expected. With 25 people in the class, the main format of teaching that was feasible was for the senior teacher to talk through concepts and for us to code along with him. Although this had some use, I do not understand why this was worth around £50/hour to me (of delivered content) and over £1000/hour if all students are included. It often was not hugely different from free/close-to-free content on Youtube or Udemy.
Positives:
- The senior teacher, Jay, was a good and dedicated teacher.
- All 3 staff made you feel welcome to ask for help.
- Navigating key challenging parts of the Javascript learning journey is easier with support. Such as: setting up NPM and NVM, working with a package.json file, running a development server on your computer
Like I said, the course had some value, but £3000 seems completely at odds with what was delivered.
You'd probably do a lot better, and save a good amount of money, following a Udemy course and then finding a Javascript developer local to you who can work with you one-on-one to help you navigate the few hurdles that are difficult to overcome by yourself which might only take 10-20 hours outside of a course like this.
Overall I'm very disappointed with my experience. Perhaps I had unrealistic expectations about what is possible in an online cohort course. I feel like the cost was only so high because their 3 month in-person bootcamp is closer to £10,000 and prepares you to be a developer. And this course piggybacks of that pricing structure. But I believe 6-hours/week online has proved not to be worth 30% of in-person 40-hours/week.
I will be paying off this course for the next 18-months.
Dodgy training provider
Dodgy, pricing in interview not matching the website. Misleading practices!

UXDI
Please spend 1 year of independent UX learning before you enroll in this course. You will have to spend 6-12 months after the course learning enough to be hirable.
Oh and PLEASE DO NOT DO AN ISA.

Really hard review. I will split it into sectors so you can decide yourselves if it is a good or a bad course as i am not sure wjat it was yet....
1. Course itself - (10/10). Nice, uptodate course, well structured with tutors that jad a very nice chemistry between them and they knew what they where talking about. Charlotte was the lead one and i think it was the best tutor i had in my life. Really struggling to think of a better one i had. And had many
2. Management - (5/10) in the end of the course i tried to talk to them about the job support and the ignored me. Amateurs at least
3. Job support - (0/10). When you pay 9k i was expecting they will have a fair amount of tech companies they will be working with them and they will be recruiting from them. That what i was told. However that wasn't the case... When u finish the course u are all alone to find a job. To make things worse i was dropped from the job support course. I paid 9k and they refused to look at my CV...... And guesss what. I think i am the 1st and only ine who found a job from that class so far....... People you run the job support are Clauns! They are recruites and have no idea about coding!!!
4. % of employment after you finish course: don't be fooled. They offer you a 2-4 weeks job with them and they count you as you have been employed!! Sneaky!!!! Reality is that u still dont have a job after 2 weeks right?
5. Conclusion: do i recommend them or not? I am not sure. I didn't like them! But then i found a job because of them..... Hard to say!

The worst experience a student can have
Not bad!
Not bad!! My weekend course was alright, not too slow and not too fast. Make sure you sign up in advnace because they didn't let people join last minute.
Positive experience
Positive experience. I will be back to learn more. I participated in an advanced course in recent years and the experience was excellent. They asked for feedback and took the time to answer the questions I had. This was a professionals course where time was compressed tightly. They excelled at teaching the course in record time and with all things covered. This was an intensive course and the knowledge gained was undeniably valuable. I recommend, highly.
I would hire students from General Assembly
I wasn't a student, I was a teacher here. I taught the full-stack web-development course.
I'd always thought that bootcamps were a nice idea for getting a very basic level of competence, but were pretty pricey for the privilege for what you could get from an online course.
So I was pleasantly surprised at how effective this teaching style was for ramping up students from basically knowing nothing about coding to being a hireable junior developer.
I would have hired my students
