Hello Erika, we can understand how there can be confusion if you simply came across your listing online and did not have the proper context around our "Indie Community Gift Card" product or mission.

Hair by Erika was listed as we are actually suggesting that people spend our San Antonio TX Community Gift Card at your business, which is a prepaid Mastercard you accept and are paid like any other Mastercard.

Our card is specially geo-locked to only be spent at small businesses in San Antonio (and excludes the big chains) to help bring more money and attention your way. Plus, we thought you would be a great local business to promote! We apologize if we mistakenly thought you accepted Mastercard and were in the Mastercard program. Please let us know if this is the case. Ultimately, our mission is to help independent businesses across the country like yours by raising the profile of small businesses and redirecting consumer behavior away from the likes of Amazon and Wall Street back to Main Street.

To avoid this kind of confusion, we host a Merchant Listings explanation page (https://giverrang.com/merchant-listing) to explain to merchants the purpose of the listing and our mission, or you can always contact us directly so that we have a chance to explain. We have removed The Look in Dayton, OH from our website.

Giverrang's product is a gift card that can be spent at any local independent business in a community. We list local businesses to suggest some places the cards can be spent, but if a business prefers not to be listed we are happy to remove them.

Hi Yavon, our company co-founder had an extensive conversation with you over the phone yesterday after you left this review and we appreciated that you took the time to give us a call to speak with us. We were able to explain what our product actually was, why there are merchant listings, and our mission to help small businesses across the US through our Community Gift Cards. Yavon, we hope the conversation helped shine light and addressed some of what you wrote here too.

Yavon offered some suggestions on how to cause less alarm to small businesses and recommended we reach out as much as we can to business owners to make them aware of Giverrang and our Community Gift Cards. We certainly would love to reach out to every small business owner, but as a small team there are practical limitations to being able to reach out to millions of businesses especially when your goal is to have the widest impact possible. For example, the difficult question we ask ourselves is do we cut off our ability to bring many more dollars to small businesses across the country just to ask permission to businesses whether it is OK that we tell our customers to go spend at their business? Perhaps from this perspective, the challenge for our team becomes more clear.

That said, we are working hard internally on how we can make the purpose of the listings more clear as well as what else we can do to share our service with merchants and others to raise awareness and eliminate confusion. Suggestions from businesses on how to accomplish this feat are always appreciated since we are working to positively impact you so we want to listen intently to better service our mission of boosting communities/local economies by promoting small businesses.

Also our listings never claim that Giverrang is an affiliate of any business. To business owners, businesses are only listed as we are merely suggesting that people spend our Community Gift Card at your business, which is a prepaid Mastercard you accept and are paid like any other Mastercard.

Hi John, we are not offering gift cards for this business. We sell a Spokane Valley WA Community Gift Card that can be spent at any independent business in the community. The listing you saw for this business was part of the "suggested businesses [to spend at]" listings.

It is difficult for us to know or be able to police the reputations of the many thousands of businesses across the country that are capable of accepting our Community Gift Cards (which are effectively prepaid Mastercards), so we do appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We will not stand for illegitimate businesses being part of our listings. We have gone ahead and removed Lilac City Decks from the Spokane Valley Community Gift Card listings.

I hope this exchange helps sheds more light on what we actually do, as our mission is ultimately to help bring more money and attention to good and reputable local business in Spokane Valley. I hope you can consider this matter resolved.

Looking in our records you did reach out directly to our support channels on September 1 and we swiftly responded to your request and removed your listing by September 2. We sincerely apologize for the mix-up as you clarified you were not a retail store or a business that accepted Mastercard, but a booking agency. Our sincere apologies. We are only trying to help small businesses, and certainly never want to upset the very merchants we are working so hard to help succeed.
