I've worked in TEFL over 20 years and I can say these recruiters are a scam. They charge you $150 for information that is free on the internet. Here just search reddit's r/TEFL jobboards. You should never pay for a TEFL job or recruiter much less someone just directing you to a free job board or recruiter. That's a fact of the industry. They are just preying on naïve new teachers. There are hundreds of free job boards and thousands of free recruiters. The responses of these individuals (and I believe it's just a couple individuals using the same said free resources based on the jobs they advertise on their own site) is so unprofessional that I, as someone who has done hiring in TEFL, would not work with them. The positive reviewers are obviously fake (their only review is of this one company and they clearly written by the company itself). To justify charging people because of native-speakerism, shame. This is my genuine experience with them Trustpilot - you shouldn't allow scammers like this.

Initially I was working with a Chinese woman whose English name is Ellen. She arranged interviews and I got an offer from a school. I was struggling to come up with the money to get my paperwork done so that took awhile. When I finally got the paperwork, I completed it as fast as I could. Before I left I told both Ellen and Gabriel that I did not have any money for housing. Ellen simply ignored what I said. I also talked to Gabriel about it and he said that I should go ahead and go to China and if I am there and do not have a place to stay, the university would provide one (the contract which was in Chinese stated that it was a housing allowance instead of providing an apartment). I got to the airport in China and the school had sent three students who could barely speak English. I was very kind to them and tried to help them with communication. We got in a taxi and went to an area in which there were several apartment buildings. I looked at four apartments and I told the agent that the school was going to have to pay for the apartment because I had no money. After awhile I got sent a text message by someone from the school that said, "all housing cost must be borne by you". We went downstairs and I tried to contact someone. Shortly after that the real estate agent and the student all left. I ended up going in a grocery store and staying in there for 24 hours. On the second day when I had money I tried to check into a hotel and a Chinese woman called the police. The police helped a me a little bit and i had an interview the next morning. While waiting for the results and searching for more jobs, I stayed in a hotel for two nights. I ran out of money again and had to sit in the hotel lobby for the night (they called the police as well). During this time I had stayed in contact with Gabriel and he was very unsupportive. He yelled at me and sent me rude messages (I have both the messages and the voicemails) and demeaned me. On Thursday (a week after I arrived) I went up to Beijing and bought a ticket and left Friday morning. Both Gabriel and Ellen were rude to me. Gabriel made accusations that I was rude to everyone. He claims to be godly, but can't control his own behavior. I only hope that someone sees this and it serves as a warning for what might be expect if they use Golden Staffing.

If you read the other negative reviews, you can clearly see which ones Gabriel has responded to because they are snarky and mean. I expect the worst and I don't care.

Trustpilot if my review is challenged, I ask that I am contacted so that I can provide the evidence of what happened. As I have stated I have the conversation and voicemail messages saved.

Edit: It is rich that Gabriel says I had anger issues when he was sending me voicemail messages yelling at me. When I got the China he did the very bare minimum to help me. It didn't matter at all that I was homeless and my situation was dire. I don't ever expect him to take responsibility for his own actions. He is the one that encouraged me to go ahead and go to China despite my not having the resources for living. I made it crystal clear to him, so if he says otherwise he is lying. My mistake was listening to him and trusting him. I only hope at least one person sees this and decides to walk away. No one deserves to be treated like he treated me.

Edit 2: You can see Gabriel's angry, rude and menacing behavior in action. I have the transcripts of our Skype conversations including the voice mails where he went berserk yelling. I honestly stopped listening to them after a while because of the vile he was spewing at me. Gabriel believes he did nothing wrong. He continues to lie about my interactions with others (interactions where he was not present). Once I got to China his attitude was that the job falling through wasn't his problem and threw a few other jobs at me when he knew I was destitute. Then when I tried to explain it too him, he'd yell at me. Gabriel shouldn't be a recruiter much less a front desk clerk at a hotel. The guy jokes that he's a monk. What BS.
