GoToGate Is Avoiding All Responsibility and Reframing the Issue

I purchased a multi-flight itinerary through GoToGate (Booking Ref: 1084-267-093) for travel on 5 October 2025 from Budapest → London Gatwick on Wizz Air W62221, then onward to Orlando on Norse Atlantic Airways.

Before traveling, I received GoToGate’s standard emails reminding me to ensure I had all required documents. I did exactly that: I checked the official UK government website and confirmed that, as a U.S. Green Card holder with an onward flight within 24 hours, I did not need a transit visa. I have taken this same route several times before without any issue.

Despite having all legally required documents, I was wrongfully denied boarding at Budapest Airport because airline staff misunderstood UK transit rules. This caused me to miss my long-haul connection and forced me to purchase a last-minute replacement ticket costing HUF 404,000 (~$1,200).

As the travel agency that issued and sold my ticket, I expected GoToGate to assist in resolving or escalating the matter. Instead:

They requested consent to process my data, then provided no meaningful follow-up

They sent a generic message stating they “are not responsible”

They insisted the matter must be handled by the airline

They offered no guidance, no support, and no mediation whatsoever

They ignored their obligations under EU consumer protection rules for travel agents

Today, GoToGate replied to my earlier review with a copy-and-paste message about checking spam folders for travel documents — a reply that has absolutely nothing to do with my actual situation.

The issue was never about missing travel documents.
The issue was that I had all required documents, was legally allowed to transit the UK, and was wrongfully denied boarding due to airline error — and GoToGate refuses to play any role in assisting the customer in a case where the purchased service could not be used.

Their reply attempts to reframe the situation to avoid acknowledging the real problem, which is extremely disappointing and misleading to any customers reading these reviews.

GoToGate must stop deflecting responsibility and start supporting customers in situations where airlines make mistakes that directly affect the tickets they sell.

Dilettanti allo sbaraglio

La compagnia China Eastern dopo tre mesi mi stravolge il piano di viaggio rendendolo inaccettabile, chiedo quindi il rimborso. Gotogate riesce a sbagliare il rimborso, rendendomi meno della metà del dovuto; ora con la pratica chiusa è veramente dura avere giustizia. Dopo oltre un mese ancora non mi rimborsano il dovuto. Statene tutti alla larga.

Warning: Do NOT use Gotogate.com — completely untrustworthy and possibly fraudulent

I booked my flight through Booking.com, which turned out to be handled by Gotogate.com. I had to cancel my trip due to medical reasons and immediately contacted Gotogate’s customer service to request a refund. They asked me to fill out a form and attach my medical certificate, which they said would be sent to the airline for review.
After a month, they replied that the airline had rejected my refund request. This didn’t make sense, so I decided to contact the airline directly. The airline responded within one week — they confirmed that they would waive all refund fees and approve a full refund based on my medical certificate. However, they said that the refund must be processed through Gotogate.
I went back to Gotogate with this confirmation, and they said they would “reinvestigate” the case. Then — nothing. Almost another month passed with no update. When I called again, I was told they were “waiting for confirmation from the airline.”
I checked again with the airline, who clearly stated that they had never received any refund request from Gotogate at all. The airline even said they would now contact Gotogate directly to find out what was happening.
A week later, Gotogate told me the airline had confirmed my refund and that I should receive it within 5–7 days. After a week — still nothing. When I called again, a different agent claimed they had never received any confirmation from the airline and that they would “escalate the case” again. I have serious doubts that such an escalation team even exists.
To make matters worse, on October 6, one of the agents told me I could file a complaint and gave me an email address. I wrote to it, but later another agent admitted it was an auto-generated email — no one reads it. So they intentionally give customers fake contact information to get rid of them.
When I asked to speak to a supervisor, the agent took down my alternative phone number for a callback. A day later, I received an email saying that someone “tried to call me” — but they had called the wrong number, not the one I gave. This shows how careless and deceptive their communication is.
I honestly don’t know if Gotogate even has a real escalation or complaint system. The experience feels like dealing with a fake company designed to block refunds and wear customers down.
Please, do not book anything through Gotogate.com. Even if you find them through Booking.com, avoid them at all costs. And Booking.com — you should seriously reconsider working with such a partner. They are destroying your reputation.
I’ve been flying with China Airlines for years and have always trusted them. This entire nightmare only happened because I booked through Booking.com and Gotogate, not directly with the airline.
Lesson learned: Always book directly with the airline. Gotogate should not exist.
