I have used GOF for a number of years after searching for a decent charcoal supplier. I use charcoal for open indoor grilling, so it has to burn cleanly and have a decent burn time.
Things took a massive downturn last year when I did a 10 bag order of Premium Professional, my regular grade.
Big mistake. GOF states "With up to 4 hours of long-lasting cooking time, minimal ash and reduced sparking".
1 - it burned too fast, nearly reaching white heat.
2 - someone at GOF needs to consult a dictionary about the meaning of 'reduced' - this stuff produced some serious pyrotechnics and it was not just the odd piece, it was a lot of them. Opened three bags to test, all did the same.
3 - Minimal ash - this seems to be achieved by putting stones, mortar, concrete and metal in the bag, they aren't reduced to ash. They are also denser than charcoal, so "weights and measures" breaches here...
I did complain and they replaced the whole lot, so I was happy enough that I did not waste money. GOF were going to take back the bad stock but they didn't, in the end I gave a lot to my son as it was OK for use in a covered BBQ. I also got rid of some in our log burner.
The replacement stock was OK and lasted about a year.
Did another topup order of 6 bags this year - it was just a rerun of the previous bad order. Fireworks, dust and inorganic matter. Some pieces so large they needed breaking down with hammer. A proper manufacturer would dift out and reprocess dust into briquettes, grading this stuff isn't rocket science.
I've no doubt I could get the shipment replaced again, however I shouldn't be in the position of doing this a second time. It is also insulting that this product is clearly not what is advertised and the quality does not justify the price point of £30.
To make matters worse, this problem seems to be endemic with all retail charcoal now, so I am considering making my own from the deadfall in my garden, or just paying lower prices and taking a gamble /putting up with crap.

Terrible customer service. I've used Green Olive for years and they used to be a reliable company. Sadly, not any more. I've paid for goods and not received my order - for the second time in 2 months. No follow up from them until chased - even then it's a mess of promised calls which don't happen and blaming their supplier. Too much effort required for what should be a straight forward transaction.

was hired in May and let go by mid-June due to budget cuts. I was told I would be paid for my notice period, but I still haven’t received any payment. The company was poorly organised, lacked proper PPE, and provided a generally unsafe working environment.

Additionally, they clearly need to improve their background checks and drug testing policies—two employees openly admitted to me and others that they regularly came to work under the influence of multiple substances.

Frankly, the entire operation is a joke.

Update:
GOF reached out to me after this receiving my review and took steps to rectify the issues I experienced with their product. Since then I'm happy to confirm that I have continued to use their product and it has returned to a fantastic product with improved quality control. I'd still say the lumps are smaller than they used to be, but it's not the bags of dust I had during 2024 - Early 25. Rating reviewed to 4 stars from 2.

I have been a customer of GOF for the last four years and their product (Premium Lumpwood Charcoal) has alway been fantastic, large pieces with a long hot burn. However since they moved from a few miles away to their new site I have had a really disappointing experience which has left me looking for an alternative producer.

Most recently, I ordered four bags which arrived promptly as always and all appear well through the first half the bag. Thats when the charcoal dust and small flakes became apparent. Sadly this made up a good portion of the bottom of the bag leading me to throw away perhaps 1-2kg of unusable material. Then the same with the second bag. Frustrated at this point I reached out to Green Olive and they were super in their response and sent me a replacement bag, no questions asked. In fact the first I was aware of it was when I received the shipping info, so I cannot and wont fault their customer service. However this cotinued through the remainder of the four original bags and the free replacement.

I know this is a natural product and there will be sone dust and small particals, however I would expect the product to be sieved and the fine material removed for their compost or briquette products.

I'm a truely disappointed customer and once real advocate for their products. Whenever I now see them being champoined on social media, It makes me want to reach out to the chef or cook to ask them if thier experience was similar to mine. I'm also sad to say that shrinkflation is also taking hold rapidly, these bags were once 12kg's and cheaper and I've noticed their other bags are getting smaller too.

Such a shame and I'm gutted to feel compelled to write this review. I hope I'm just the unlucky one.

We buy the premium olive firewood now and again to go in our canal boat log burner. It’s expensive but it burns hot, smells great and lasts a long time and it has the added bonus of watching the cat go mental

Good quality charcoal which lights easily and burns pretty cleanly (for charcoal). Delivers high temperatures.

We buy the lump wood charcoal and cook both short cook but mainly long cook. This charcoal has mainly nice big lumps perfect for us; if we need smaller lumps we break the big lumps- just perfect.

First class product and always service on time. So happy to buy a good quality product for my BBQ as previously I was buying charcoal and wood for BBQ from different companies but was not the same quality. I’m so happy with GreenOliveFirewood products they are good quality and for good price.

Have used Green Olive charcoal for several years now (premium large). Really good clean long burn. Also use Thier firelighters (one is enough). The best I have tried.

Always a good service , logs are perfect and delivery via DPD works out very well . The olive logs burn long and hot

Order a pallet of premium lump wood just before Christmas 2023 as we were going to do the turkey on the BBQ. Wasn’t sure it was going to get here in time as only a realised a few days before but it did so everyone was happy!

Have dealt with the Green olive firewood co for many years, have only received first Class service. Only purchased olive wood never had a complaint with them. Can only assume that there standard of service will cover the whole range of products. So I can recommend them to anyone requiring there products.
