EstimatorXpress is an amazing software tool that deserves time and attention to get the most out of it. So, it’s very important to us that you’re supported throughout this valuable exploration stage. And it doesn’t stop once you’re a subscriber or perpetual licence holder. The support and advice continue online and over the phone Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm. Hi Richard,

Sorry that our recent discussions, and an offer of a discount as a gesture of goodwill, have resulted in this review. We understand that you’re disappointed with the requirement for upgrading the three HBXL software tools you paid for in 2018, prompted by your transfer to a newer computer, and not the quality of the software itself.

In the seven years since you bought the software there have been changes to security protocols from Microsoft (the owners of your operating system) that are beyond our control. This means that we cannot implement any work-arounds that would keep your 2018 software functional.

HBXL is committed to ensuring our software works effectively and securely on current computers, where the Windows-owned operating system is regularly updated. A chunk of HBXL’s software development time goes in addressing these changes.

In your case, with PlansXpress and Health & Safety Xpert, your 2018 versions are unable to interface with TLS 1.2, Microsoft’s latest protocol (they recently deactivated the version you’re using). We communicated with users over 12 months ago warning of this likely action from Microsoft and the impact it would have, with support at that time. With EstimatorXpress, you can continue using your current software but would need to use a 32-bit version of Excel and Word from pre-2016.

The Support & Updates package that we have offered perpetual users since we founded the company 25 years ago, is an annual payment that gives users unlimited phone support Mon-Fri. It also includes access to the new features we regularly add to the software products, plus any bug fixes and operating system changes. Annual subscribers automatically have the latest software.

On behalf of the HBXL Team, thank you for your seven years’ use of HBXL Building Software, and we wish you well going forward with your new provider.
