Inadequate Support
I tried to make an online payment using my HSA Bank card, only to have it declined as "not a valid card." I called HSA Bank to confirm my new card was active, and the support experience left me more frustrated than when I started.
The wait time was reasonable (under 2 minutes), but the actual help I received was severely lacking. Despite already providing information through the automated system, I had to repeat everything to the agent. "John" seemed genuinely apologetic and was clearly trying his best, but he was completely out of his depth with my issue. He put me on hold three separate times, couldn't resolve the problem, and his only solution was for me to pay out of pocket rather than use my HSA funds... which defeats the entire purpose of having an HSA card.
His explanation that "they're moving from Visa to MasterCard" doesn't excuse a non-functioning card that should be active. This issue appears to affect online payments specifically. I don't blame the agent himself. He seemed undertrained and unprepared to handle basic card issues. The responsibility falls on HSA Bank for either failing to provide adequate training, allowing agents to take calls before they're ready, or having inadequate training protocols.
HSA Bank wasted over half an hour of my time on a problem they created (an active card that doesn't work for online payments! This is unacceptable for a financial institution handling people's healthcare funds.
Until HSA Bank fixes these card activation issues and properly trains their support staff, I can't recommend relying on their card for time-sensitive healthcare payments.
Torture…
I tried during 2025 for several months to get new debit cards as the old ones expired. They always said that they were mailed but I never received them I finally decided to transfer my funds to another firm but it has been torture trying to get my money out. It has been just short of a month so far. When I ask to speak to a supervisor I get put on hold a while and then they come back and say no supervisor is available. My last correspondence was that they would send a check to my new firm in a week via snail-mail. I would give zero stars if I could.
just closed my HSA account they wanted…
just closed my HSA account they wanted all this stuff to prove I am who I say I am despite having already given ID, deposit amounts for bank ver, my address, beneficiary info etc. I didn't even get my HSA card yet (they wanted to verify it, too) even tho I'd literally just opened the accounts. Def the blind leading the blind.
Where is the missing $224?
Paid my dentist with my HSA Bank card back in June, learned months later they never received payment. Customer service informs me the transaction was cancelled yet the funds -- $224 were never credited back to my account.
First time I called, I was told the funds would be refunded to my account within 2 weeks. Funds never arrived. Called again and was told I needed to fax or mail a dispute form and then wait another two weeks. When I ask to be transferred to a supervisor or someone who can better assist me, I'm told there are no options.
Additionally, the dispute form requires customers to include all 16 digits of their debit card on an insecure and unencrypted form. What could go wrong there? Zero opportunity for fraud/abuse!
Terrible support, terrible systems.
Used to have decent investing options, now they're terrible.
Used to have decent investing options. Now switched to a high fees options. Also they take a fee every month for banking with your money? Crazy.
My employer uses HSA bank (unfortunately) so I just transfer funds (TOA, transfer of assets) from the account quarterly to a Fidelity account that has awesome low fee super flexible investing options with no fees, and 4% interest on all cash. A much better option.
Last thing - when I do the TOAs (transfer of assets) with Fidelity, they handle everything (great). I've done TOA's from other institutions, and the two banks generally communicate well and play nice.
HSA bank has a "confidentiality policy" that they use as an excuse to not update other institutions on the status of TOA's when you are transferring money OUT of HSA Bank. Even though you filled out and signed a form with another institution which is getting funds from your HSA account on your behalf, they won't update the other bank. What a load of nonsense.
HSA bank is bad.
Absolute scam
Absolute scam. They won't process a sale order to move investment to cash. You can't close your account until investments are sold. They "can't see a pending sales order" (submitted 5 times with agents on the line to 'make sure I did it right). Still can't see the pending order. So money is entirely trapped. SEC complaint filed. Run.
HSA bank fails to approve legitimate HC claims and insists on confidential HC info
My employer uses HSA bank to mange employees FSAs. HSA bank requires we submit receipts for medical expenses paid using our HSA credit card despite receipts being from MD offices, HC agencies, claiming they need confidential health info such as our diagnoses due to IRS demands. They say they are denying our legitimate HC expenses. This is the only management company Ive had who demands my confidential HC info. I do not believe the IRS wants or needs this info. This is a way for them to deny my claim and avoid paying for legitinate HC expenses.
NOT to be trusted with your money
There is almost zero chance you're using them on your own so RUN and and TELL your employer that this company is garbage and shouldn't be used. Have your fellow employees petition to REMOVE them as your HSA/FSA manager.
The company completely fails to fully safeguard account holder information and in our estimation is susceptible to scam/exposing both EMPLOYER and EMPLOYEE data.
Customer service: ABSOLUTELY THE WORST. completely unreliable and unknowledgeable. They have and will flat out lie to account holders. You will sit thru the phone tree and possibly have to call back multiple times and spend an unreasonable amount of time on the phone NOT getting the information you seek. I've called 5 times to get 2 questions answered and they prematurely hung up, gave me a "they're having technical issues message" and gave me the survey instead of putting me on hold on 3 of those calls (respectively).
Worse yet the complete incompetence of this company does not inspire confidence that one's money is properly being invested or guarded.
Words cannot describe how bad this bank…
Words cannot describe how bad this bank is.
Pull your money out if you can, and just pay the taxes.
I have had my share of problems
I have had my share of problems, but there is always a native English speaking representative to answer promptly whenever I call, and that has remedied most of my concerns. I wish more companies had the ability to just call and immediately get an answer to questions that aren't easily googleable or searchable on a help site.
Months of Excuses, Still No Card.
I’ve contacted HSA Bank multiple times about not receiving my HSA card since September, and every agent has given me a different excuse. On my fourth call, when I finally asked for a supervisor, the agent flat-out told me no. My latest email response told me to “order a card online,” even though that option doesn’t exist.
I still have no card, no access to my own money, and I’m stuck paying medical expenses out-of-pocket. This has been dragged out for months and feels like my funds are being held hostage. I would not recommend.
Wish I Could Give a Zero
The only reason I'm giving it a one is that Trust Pilot won't allow me to give a zero.
HSA Bank's investment options and capabilities are so limited as to be virtually useless. The only reason I can see anyone using their services is because like me there is no other option given by their employer and/or plan.
It's hard to imagine how or why anyone would willingly use the HSA Bank's services. They claim they might someday add some basic functionality that every other brokerage already has but of course there's no plan or information on when or if anything might get better.
It's literally like a bad joke that this company could convince anyone they're qualified to hold account assets and/or build a viable trading platform ... but unfortunately they hoodwinked someone and it's a very real problem.
HSA is the worst
My company uses HSA Bank for Flexible Spending and HSA accounts, and my experience has been extremely frustrating. The customer service representatives are often rude and unable to locate basic account information—even the same data used for login.
They denied coverage for my son’s emergency room visit, insisting on an itemized receipt. When I provided a copy with only the relevant details (the $250 copay), they were upset that I removed unrelated information. This was unnecessary since the copay was the only charge their card covered.
If you have the option, I strongly recommend choosing another provider or advising your company not to use HSA Bank. The level of inconvenience and poor service is unacceptable.
I totally agree with those reviewers… Stay away from HSA Bank
I totally agree with those reviewers that wished they could give a 0 rating! This "bank" only cares about hanging on to your funds for their benefit!
When I closed out my acct, just now, they had the balls to charge me $25 dollars to electronically transfer my money to my bank of record. All the have to do is punch in about ten keys to do it!
If you read these reviews, STAY AWAY FROM HSA "BANK"!
Lies & terrible service
They (supposedly) sent out a new HSA debit card. Never received it. They turned off my old card (which was not expired). When I called in September, they said they would turn off the card I never received, and issue a new one. Three weeks later, I still had no card. Called back - turns out they never turned off the card they sent that I never received, AND never sent me a new card. So I asked them to send it again, and they said it would arrive by Oct. 24. I called today, now they say the card was sent Oct. 11 and will *probably* arrive by Oct. 30. I've been without an HSA debit card now for two months. They never should have turned off my original card in the first place, because it WASN'T EXPIRED. Stuck with them through my job, but I would NEVER open an account with this bank on my own. Customer service seems to take pleasure in your distress. Horrible bank.
Terrible experience
If I can rate 0 , I will. Very bad and terrible experience and service with HSA bank claim, spent lots of time ad effort for $450 reimbursement, still does not work. Each time I call different agent just provide different answers, so confusing, misleading, and finally they tell me you can not claim since due date is over. I gave up, but I post here to warn other clients that be careful to choose HSA bank.
Non existent customer service
My utter dissatisfaction with the support I have received while attempting to close my HSA account. Over multiple attempts, I have had to make numerous calls, and each time, the information provided by your agents has been incomplete, inconsistent, or unclear.
The agents are incompetent as well as they speak rudely.
Despite my efforts to follow the instructions given, the account closure process has not been completed efficiently, causing unnecessary frustration and wasted time.
They denied a claim from my eye doctor
They denied a claim from my eye doctor. I submitted the receipt and they said it was fine. Several months later they required it for the SAME CLAIM! Wait time of 2+ hours on the phone and the online chat was extraordinarily unhelpful. In 20+ years of having FAS/HSA accounts I have never had a medical claim from a legitimate medical provider be questioned. Name of the doctor’s company even says “Eye care” in the name. I’m going to ask my HR company if there are any other options to use.
HSABank deactivated my VISA debit card …
HSABank deactivated my VISA debit card before their replacement MasterCard card arrived. I did not request the change. My current card does not expire until 12/27. HSABank customer service is aware that the new card is still in transit but did nothing to reactivate my current card until the new one arrives. Terrible customer service.
Dear HSA Bank
Dear HSA Bank, The app stopped working but you did not let me know that. Instead you just let me waste your time figuring it out. After trying several times over the last two days to reset passwords etc I called the 'help' line only to finally be told the app is down and I'll have to wait 2-3 more hours to try and reset again. I hope you are actively trying to do better.
