Dental Implant with Iconic Smiles
Today was my last visit to Iconic Smiles, Hilltop, Hatfield.
Having lost a bottom jaw molar to an infection, the gap left was annoying and occasionally painful, when biting down on something 'crunchy' onto the gum.
Dr Mayur Pandya took me through all the options and we went with an implant.
I have to say I was a little apprehensive initially, but it was best described as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful, Mayur took me through every step and even gave me his personal mobile and e-mail should I have experienced any pain or bleeding following the insertion of the implant - there was none!
Today my new tooth was placed on the implant, it fitted with beautiful precision and feels so natural in my mouth - a heavenly meal this evening.
I cannot recommend Iconic Smiles and Dr Pandya strongly enough.

NHS patients be aware
I had been a patient at Hatfield hilltop practice for many years and always attended my appointments. In October I had three NHS fillings. After several weeks, one filling still caused sensitivity and affected my bite, so it was adjusted. On Christmas Eve, one of the fillings fell out completely near the gum line.
I contacted the practice requesting an emergency appointment, explaining the urgency, but was offered a date after Christmas. I then attended the practice in person and found it completely empty, with no patients in the waiting room. After discussion, a dentist agreed to examine the tooth, but I was charged for the visit.
After checking NHS dental rules, my understanding was that failed fillings within 12 months should be repaired under the NHS guarantee. I raised this and requested a refund. After several emails, the charge was refunded as a “gesture of goodwill.” Shortly afterwards, I was informed that I had been removed from the practice’s NHS patient list.
It is disappointing that raising a genuine concern about NHS charges appears to result in losing access to NHS treatment. Patients should be able to question charges without fear of being dropped.

We would like to clarify a few general points. Dental restorations can occasionally fail for a variety of clinical reasons, which is why NHS treatment is subject to a 12-month guarantee. Where repair or replacement is clinically appropriate, this is provided in line with NHS guidance.
During the Christmas period, the practice operates with significantly reduced staffing to allow emergency cover to be maintained. On the day in question, only one dentist was working, which is why the waiting room may have appeared quiet. Despite this, you were assessed on the same day by a different clinician, having requested to be seen urgently, and you agreed to the applicable charge at the time.
Following subsequent correspondence, and without any admission of incorrect charging, a refund was provided as a gesture of goodwill in an effort to bring the matter to a close.
Where there is a sustained breakdown in trust and repeated disagreement over care and application of guidance, it may not be in the best interests of the patient or the team for the professional relationship to continue. In such circumstances, patients are advised to seek ongoing care with a provider better aligned to their expectations, so that future treatment can be delivered without ongoing misunderstanding.
We cannot discuss individual clinical matters further on a public forum, but we wish you well with your future dental care.

Excellent Dental Practice
I visited the dentist today as I have been recently having some pain in a tooth.

I was booked for a check up
I was booked for a check up, but the Dentist filled a chipped tooth that was causing me pain, at the same time. She was explaining what she was doing as she worked, which kept me relaxed and calm.
