Just a nice please to go everybody very friendly

First time in today was great ...air con ...loads of machines so you not weighting around ....First class

Good range of equipment all available on each visit.

Would benefit from having some quieter times for new members. Also when attending induction classes need to spend more than 8 minutes being shown the whole place.

Gyms great overall best gym I’ve been too in a while. Only thing I could fault is the free weights never being in the right places with there labels 😇

I have been attending this gym for close to a year and, until this incident, had never been informed that wearing Crocs was against the gym’s rules. My issue is not with the rule itself, but with the way it was enforced.

I was approached by a staff member regarding my footwear just as I was about to begin a set. Throughout the conversation, he repeatedly stated that I was breaking the gym’s terms and conditions and mentioned having “20 years of experience” as though that justified the way he was speaking to me. I explained that nobody had ever previously informed me of this rule.

What made the situation more confusing was that I regularly see people wearing high-visibility workwear and other clothing that could also raise questions under the gym’s rules, yet no concerns appear to be raised. If the terms and conditions are going to be enforced, they should be applied consistently to all members.

The most concerning part of the interaction was when the staff member took a photograph of my vehicle registration plate. I found this unnecessary and intimidating for what was ultimately a disagreement about footwear.

I have also attempted to contact the gym multiple times to raise a complaint about this experience, but my calls have gone unanswered.

Rules can be enforced professionally and respectfully. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.

I’ve been going to JD Gym Shiremoor for a couple of years now or even longer, and overall I genuinely love the place. It’s in a great location, and the staff and personal trainers are always friendly, approachable, and helpful.

The recent refit was a really positive change overall, although I still can’t get over the vinyl-covered windows. The natural view used to be a real asset to the gym, and I know I’m not the only member who feels that way. Maybe one day the glue will give up and the vinyl will magically fall off! (Just joking.)

The main reason I’m writing this review, however, is the abductor machine. For such a large gym, having only one machine is frustrating, especially as it’s either constantly occupied or out of order.

Today, I finally managed to use it at the end of my session, but while I was exercising, the cable suddenly snapped with a very loud bang. It was genuinely quite scary and could easily have caused an injury. I was told this apparently happens quite often, which is concerning.

I’m writing this review because sometimes online feedback carries more weight than comments made in person. On behalf of many members who use this machine regularly, could something please be done about this issue? We would just love another abductor machine.

Currently at shiremoor only thing that lets it down is the phone signal on your phone trying to get in and out is a nightmare. I need to find the Wi-Fi code for the place of lots of a fantastic gym five stars.

Great gym...great equipment and atmosphere....very good value aswell

First time in a real gym in my late 30s, went in with my mate feeling a bit awkward… and honestly, it’s been class. We hit three sessions last week, finishing with a “Push” induction with Ewan — who is, without exaggeration, a total legend.

Facilities are all well cleaned and maintained, high quality equipment and friendly staff. Facilities are amazing and theres always room to work out!

Big gym with a big variety of gym equipment but the order one programme didn't work. Only just started so will try the classes out.

Went for the first time on Sunday with my son who goes every day and I really enjoyed it so much bigger than I expected and lots to do also so clean

I’ve had several issues:
1. The internet doesn’t work — the connection is very poor.
2. There are no mats available to work out in the weights area.
3. The hot water in the showers takes a long time to come out, which makes showering very uncomfortable.

Misleading £5 joining fee but reality is you have to sign up for second month at full price

Gym is great, just times of the sauna changing is abit poor, need to be on earlier in morning and later at night as lot of people like late night workouts

Absolutely excellent

They need a raise or a bonus !!!

Huge upgrade since I was last a member. Much better lay out. Loads more equipment and all in good working order.

I only started working out here recently after seeing a YouTube review of JD Gyms, and I’m really impressed so far. The range and quality of equipment is excellent, and there’s plenty of variety for different types of training.

My only real concern is the changing room, which is quite small. It can be difficult to get changed comfortably, and with limited space to hang clothes they often end up stuffed into lockers. Because of this, I usually arrive already dressed for the gym, which isn’t ideal in colder weather.

That said, at £30 per month this is something I’m willing to overlook. Especially when compared to my previous gym, which cost £72 per month, the value for money here is hard to beat.
