All ready cancelled my direct debit after one day, lots of idiots playing stupid games in the sauna and showers. Staff didn’t do anything even though they were present

An absolutely disgraceful gym with conditions that are completely unacceptable.

The temperature inside is so extreme that training feels genuinely unsafe. The air conditioning is broken, the building has no windows that can be opened, there is almost no effective ventilation, and the entire gym feels like an overcrowded greenhouse.

Members are expected to exercise in stifling heat while packed into a building with hundreds of other people. It is unbearable, dangerous and completely unfit for purpose.

Despite constant complaints from customers, JD Gym appears to have done nothing meaningful to fix the problem. People have reportedly collapsed and become unwell because of the heat, yet there still seems to be no urgency, no accountability and no concern for member safety.

For a large company to continue taking full membership payments while refusing to provide a safe and properly ventilated training environment is disgraceful. It gives the impression that saving money matters more to them than the health and safety of the people paying to use their facilities.

The overcrowding makes an already appalling situation even worse. The gym is far too busy, the air is suffocating, the heat is relentless and completing a proper workout is almost impossible.

Many members have reportedly already cancelled and moved to other gyms because they are sick of being ignored and expected to tolerate these conditions.

This is without question one of the worst gym experiences I have ever had. The way this situation has been handled is negligent, insulting and completely unacceptable.

Until the air conditioning and ventilation are fully repaired, I would strongly advise anyone considering joining to stay well away.

Great facilities and friendly staff

Having been to smaller gyms, it’s feels very busy and cramped for space around the many machines but it’s just a matter of finding the best time to go and work around busy periods. Much better selection of machines and equipment however than most gyms.

Absolutely ridiculous that the air con doesn’t work in the gym in this heat. Heard this has been an ongoing issue since it opened in 2019. The answer is a few fans dotted around blowing warm air about. An absolute joke when people are paying money for a service

Highly recommend Joes Saturday morning HIIT class. Joe is SO full of energy and enthusiasm! Great class and a lot of fun 😁

Equipment in the gym is old compared to other jd gyms locations, rusty attachments, stiff moving machines

The gym floor is always to hot
Not enough variety and quantity of gym equipment
Opening hours are too short at the weekend

Great gym, fantastic equipment only downside is closing times on weekends. I can appreciate Sunday being different hours just like most places but wish Saturday had the 10pm close

Fantastic. Definitely worth signing up! Only thing I’d suggest as an improvement would be a bigger sauna and more cold showers.

Great gym easy to use treadmills lots of benches + equipment would be in the world class category with Myzone screens with gym leaderboard monthly challenges etc or even just the Myzone tablets on screen of whoever has them on in gym 💪🏻👍🏻🤜🏻❤️

In January 2025 I decided to change gyms. I am a senior citizen (74yrs) keep fit enthusiast and my grandson recommended JD Gyms (Thornton Cleveleys). I have been training and attending gyms since I was a young man so I have seen their development and increase in popularity over the years. The equipment at JD is top notch no doubt about it and there is plenty of it. I attended at various times and never found it too busy and was always able to use the equipment I wanted. The cleanliness of the main gym area was pretty good considering the number of users. Occasionally a piece of kit was out of service but there are always others you can use.
Most of the staff are friendly and polite but dont engage you in conversation to enquire if you are enjoying your experience. Having said that if I asked I always got the information I wanted.
So all of the above points are ok now to the rest, the changing rooms. I am referring specifically to the male changing rooms which include the toilets, showers and sauna. The area in which you get changed is filled with benches and lockers and at busy times is chaotic. The room is simply not big enough, its not helped by the fact many people dont use the lockers they just leave their bags on the benches. I would rate the cleanliness of the changing rooms as unpleasant. This is in my opinion down to the size which simply cannot accomodate the number of gym users at busy times. I think its a one person full time job to keep it clean. A member of the gym staff in the changing room would also improve the overall experience as I have regularly seen people using phones to video and photograph whilst they pose in the mirror. I found this very intrusive and totally inappropriate in such an area. I raised the subject with a member of staff who told me to speak to the people who were doing it and ask them to stop. There was no offer of the staff doing anything. A couple of visits later when I asked two youths to stop filming it became controntational. This was the final straw I spoke to two male members of staff. As I explained my complaint one of the staff started smiling which made matters worse, the other told me using a phone as a camera was permitted in the changing rooms but not in the gym area. I told him this was totally unacceptable and I found it hard to believe it was true.
If I have got to my age and I am forced to endure this sort of behaviour and lack of respect I no longer wish to be a member of JD Gyms.

its a good gym but can be busy at times so it's hard to get on some machines and equitment.

Really like this gym, a good selection of of machines and I like the vibe with the music and it being based next to the sea. The staff are also really friendly, the changing rooms are clean and big. There are a couple of machines (pec dec and hip thrust) are never free so would be nice to have a couple of them because I haven't managed to get on either for my last few sessions now. It would also be valuable to me and other members to have way more antibac wipes / sprays around the gym because the equipment is not cleaned in between people are the wipes aren't accessible. Otherwise, I like this gym. I imagine it would be far too busy for me after work hours but because I go in the day time it isn't too bad

Friendly and helpful staff, great abundance of equipment topped off with a good sauna, loving using the facilities.

Great gym, lots of good equipment, clean and spacious. Lewis the assistant general manager is great - super helpful and friendly. He always makes sure things get reported and fixed when broken and has a wealth of knowledge on health and fitness if you need advice. Lucy the pulse Pilates instructor is also absolutely fabulous, love her energy and classes! Also love that there are separate male/female saunas.

Being 70 yes old,I was pleased to see agood mix of ages .Made me feel confident and I enjoyed the experience. I will definitely become permanent member.
