I donât say this lightly: kyte should not be allowed to operate. Period. My experience with them has been a nonstop series of red flags â from mechanical negligence to flat-out lies and shady customer service tactics. This is not a legitimate car rental company â itâs a trap for unsuspecting customers.
Hereâs the reality:
ð« Unsafe Vehicles â They gave me a car with low coolant, which couldâve severely damaged the engine or put me in danger on the road. Thatâs basic maintenance â how does a rental company fail at that?
ð« No Accountability â I scheduled a vehicle swap for 12 PM due to the issue. I showed up, and they told me they had no record of the appointment and no cars available. I was stranded, with no apology and no urgency to fix their mistake.
ð« Deceptive Customer Service â Months ago, I reported issues with another vehicle. That car later got a flat tire. When I called, I was told I wouldnât be charged for the tire. I have emails confirming that. Guess what? I got charged anyway. When I pushed back, the story magically changed â again and again.
ð« Questionable Standards â Iâve witnessed them hand out cars that smell like weed, and they pass them off like itâs normal. Imagine getting pulled over in one of those? Whoâs going to take the fall â you or them?
KYPE operates with zero transparency, zero care for safety, and zero customer respect. Itâs all about money for them, even if it means lying, flipping the script, or renting out unsafe vehicles.
ð If youâre thinking about renting from kyte, DONâT. I wouldnât wish this headache on anyone. Theyâre unprofessional, unreliable, and frankly dangerous. There are dozens of better options out there â go with any of them before putting your safety and wallet at risk with kyte .

Thatâs why I was surprised to see extra mileage and administrative toll charges on my most recent trip. These kinds of unexpected fees are exactly what Kyte has always helped me avoid - until now.

Kyte canceled my booking two hours before I was scheduled to pick up the car. No explanation, I was just told "sorry for the inconvenience, we are out of cars". No help was offered.
With two hours before I was due to pick up the car, I had to completely scramble to find an alternate form of transportation.
Crazy that this company is so poorly managed as to run out of available cars on a consistent basis.

I have been a Kyte renter for a while now, one of the early adopters, but lately their service has take a turn for the worst.
I recently rented a car from Kyte and was immediately met with a series of unacceptable issues. The vehicle arrived in a filthy condition, both inside and out. The boot space was a complete mess. More importantly, the spare tire was missing, and the brakes made a loud, concerning squeaking noise.
The vehicle I received was not even close to the midsize car I had booked. It was a smaller, compact model. This was a clear misrepresentation and a breach of our agreement.
I immediately notified the Kyte team about these serious safety concerns and the discrepancy in the vehicle type. Instead of promptly addressing the issues or offering a suitable solution, they asked me to wait around for several days while they attempted to find a replacement vehicle. The replacement they offered was an older model, a further downgrade.
To add insult to injury, the only compensation offered for all these issues was a paltry $10 for the lack of cleaning. This is a completely unacceptable response, given the serious safety concerns and the breach of contract.
Kyte's lack of professionalism and disregard for customer safety are evident. I strongly advise against renting from them. You deserve better.

It is insane that they charge 33% admin fee for tolls. Drove from nyc to Harrisburg for a weekend trip and theyâre still charging my tolls 3 weeks later. Over $130 in tolls
Unsafe, unreliable, and unwilling to fix it
I scheduled a Kyte surfer dropoff two days in advance of my trip and kyte texted me (not called) less than one hour before my scheduled drop off time to tell me that they would not be able to drop off the car at the scheduled time due to "unforeseen circumstances". When I asked what these unforeseen circumstances were, they told me unexpected demand for cars.... Not sure how car rentals is considered unforseen circumstances for a car rental company. I called the customer service line multiple times and the best they could offer me was that I go to a lot to pick up the car myself and they would give me a $30 credit for future rentals which was, frankly, laughable. This led to a scramble at 6:30 in the morning to try to get myself to a random parking lot in an unsafe part of town where a "Kyte representative" (aka random person hovering around the parking garage) meets me at a single sign with a QR code and tells me to follow him to the car. Long story short, if you value your safety or you can't risk your car showing up multiple hours later than reserved, do not use this company - they completely ruined my trip, and didn't so much as offer a refund despite multiple phone calls and emails. Extremely disappointed at what I was really hopeful could be a great company. You'll be better off using Get Around, Zip Car, or any established rental company.

Iâm extremely disappointed with my experience with Kyte. I made a reservation over a week in advance, expecting the car to be delivered to my home as promised. However, right before my scheduled pick-up, I was informed that they couldnât deliver the vehicle. I ended up having to take a $25 Uber to their lot, which was far from my home. Once there, I had to wait an additional 40 minutes before getting into the carâthis was a one-day rental, and every delay was cutting into our plans.
Because of the morning delays and confusion, we had to cancel one of our reservations, resulting in a $100 loss. In total, I lost $125. When I escalated the issue to customer service, all they offered was a $50 app credit, which is frankly insulting. They seem more focused on getting customers to make future reservations, rather than making things right. This kind of behavior feels like theyâre protecting their topline revenue rather than providing good customer service.
I wonât be using Kyte again. If they canât manage their logistics, theyâre no better than the traditional rental companies they claim to be disrupting. Beware if youâre considering using Kyteâitâs just not worth the hassle.

I would give this less than one star if possible. This was by far the worst customer experience I have ever encountered. We rented the car for two days and paid for pick up and delivery. The first day the car was picked up 45 minutes after guaranteed pick up time. We had to park illegally to wait on the driver. Teo days later on the second rental day I received a text indicating they could not pick up the vehicle and I needed to deliver it. I had to drive 5 miles to deliver the car. When I requested a credit, I was told I could only receive a future credit. Stay the hell away from this company!!!!

Tried booking with Kyte. Went through all steps, payment, etc to find I was denied due to not meeting their qualifications for approval. I had a moving violation 3-4 years ago and otherwise clean record. 45 yo father of 2 with a near perfect credit score and one speeding ticket in last 10 years. Unreal.

Car was not delivered at the time it was promised. When I called they said they could get the car to me 3 hours later. That's not helpful. Got $25 in credit as compensation. Hardly worth it given the inconvenience. Will never use Kyte again.

DO NOT use Kyte in association with air travel. Clean cars and nice people but their setup is VERY different from other companies. (1) pickup. As is common with rental cars, I booked pickup for 1h after landing. Turns out for them thatâs a specific appointment and you are supposed to be at the pickup point 30 minutes from JFK by airport train within 10 minutes of the agreed upon time or they bill you $20 âfor the delayâ.
(2) return: same thing: I had put 1h before takeoff as return time as is common when searching for rental cars. Figured out the morning of departure that the time again represented for them a specific appointment to drop off the car. Tried to change it but apparently that needs to be done at least 24h ahead of time. Clean car but way too much drama.

Rented from Kyte twice before w/o major problems. Third time rented a compact car for $29/day for two days. Somehow the final charge ended up being $118. Plus, the car was absolutely filthy. Looked like body fluids in the passenger seat and chocolate milk spilled on the rear armrest (God, hope it was chocolate milk...). I had an appt to make so the surfer dropped the car off and I didn't take a good look inside until it was too late. Took pictures and sent to Kyte customer service which first offered to replace the car. Problem was by the time they wrote back I had returned the vehicle. I wrote back for clarification--did the rep mean to say they'd offer a free rental in the future (goodness, people don't know how to write any longer--was totally unclear from the email)? No such luck. Another rep replied they'd offer me $10 in credit. Insulting. A "wannabe startup" that will go bankrupt in a few years, no doubt in my mind. Stay far away. Works okay until it doesn't.

BE WARNED - Do not rent a car with "Kyte Car Rental". I should've checked the horrible reviews (my bad). On Saturday 8/10 am while in San Francisco we decided we wanted a one-day car rental for Monday so we could drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and check out Sausalito and Muir Woods. We noticed "Kyte Car Rental" was in the next block over and would be very convenient. I downloaded the app, put in all my info, downloaded my driverâs license, my full coverage car insurance # and booked a mid-sized car for Monday 8/12/24 @ 8am. They billed my credit card. I should say, (currently LOL) I have a clean driving record, 800+ credit score. On 8/11/24, they asked if I wanted to pay $5.65 more for a nicer car (Audi Q3), so I said sure and gave the authorization for that. I woke up @ 7am on 8/12/24 to get ready to go get the car, and saw an email received @ 03:00 on 8/12/24 that said: "Upcoming Trip Cancellation" (you do not meet our eligibility requirements) and I will be getting a refund. They also cancelled my login for the app. Of course, has no phone # to call. It's fine that you don't want my money, but don't cancel my rental 5 hours before the pick-up with potential of ruining my day... Luckily, we found a local company with an available car (City Car Rental), and they worked like a car rental company should... Kyte Car rental is a joke (not a funny one)... With customer service like this, they won't be around long.

Iâve been continuously renting through Kyte for three years. I have a beautiful Audi Q3. Their customer service is like no other. I can do everything through the app. I never have to pick up the phone. I can chat with their representatives and take care of everything. Their rates are the cheapest And their whole process from beginning to end is like no other company. They are completely ahead of everybody else as far as technology and convenience.
Iâve had a car loan in the past And I never wanna do that again those car dealers are no good they take advantage of people like me with little credit history and desperate for a car gave me a loan that I would be paying for years and years well beyond the life of my car. Luckily, my car had broke down under warranty so I got out of that but had that not happened I wouldâve been toast. This is what lead me to renting. I started with Turo, but that became a big pain that is not a service for a long-term renter and it gets so expensive. Kyte gives me a luxury imported suv And refunds me for all maintenance and care that I do to the car And then when itâs time for them to retire, the car I get a brand new year model.
You definitely need to have the funds if youâre going to do long-term renting through Kyte But I highly recommend looking into it and seeing if it works for you, itâs been a blessing for me
