A wonderful company with the most


A wonderful company with the most delicious olive oil I have ever tasted! Their honeys are also lovely; we especially like Pine & Thyme. Well packaged, prompt delivery and great customer service.

BRASS SALT AND PEPPER MILLS

BRASS SALT AND PEPPER MILLS, 23.5 CM (MODELS 109, 104)
Regular price £55.00 plus Postage.

After just 8 months my replacement Pepper Grinder Mechanism has gone blunt again and for the 3rd time in 3.1/2 years.

I am very unhappy that such an expensive grinder has such a short life span.

The reason for this issue is that the grinder parts are made of soft die-cast Zinc (edit) which means the cutting edges get rounded very quickly.

The Replacement Mechanisms are also very expensive at £24.90 for what can only cost pennies to make.
I did ask LiquidGold if they could send the previous one back to the Atlas Factory for investigation but they did not respond.

UPDATE, in response to the seller: The mechanism is die cast Zinc which is a very soft metal. It starts off with a sharp edge which is machined into the soft metal at the factory. This quickly wears. There are many negative reviews on Amazon (world site), therefore I am not the only one as Liquid Gold (LG) purports! I contacted the factory in Greece, BRASSPEPPERMILL again and the CEO stated that when Liquid Gold refunded me then he would credit them. Liquid gold failed to do so.

To evidence this issue, I sharpened the cutter with a file to as good an edge as the factory item and the mill is now working like new, however this will be a constant issue due to the ridiculously soft metal used to grind very hard peppercorns, which as any engineer will know, should be hardened steel or ceramic.
And so there is no doubt the CUTTER has a SHARP edge when new. I include a photo of a cutter.

This customer contacted us numerous times over the 4 years of his use of the pepper mills and received immediate and patient attention. Somehow, over the 4 years, he had managed to grind his way through two brand new solid brass mills as well as two additional replacement grinder mechanisms. ie 4 grinding mechanisms in total!! On the final request for a replacement mechanism, we suggested that he should consider using a different mill as ours clearly does not suit his manner of use. Contrary to what he claims, the grinding mechanism is NOT made of soft die cast aluminium but is a zinc alloy, ideally suited to the task: the mechanism employed is one of CRUSHING not cutting, as the former preserves the flavour and does not over heat the pepper corns. For this, the zinc alloy is ideal. Additionally, the design of the mills is constantly under review as the manufacturers are themselves mechanical engineers and have been refining the designs since 1977. Again, contrary to what the customer says, we replied to all his numerous emails and calls, including his request to return the mills to the manufacturers. Finally, it should be noted that this is the only customer complaint about the pepper mills that we have ever had, in our 12 years of business, whilst the manufacturers sell over 6000 of these mills worldwide annually, many to repeat customers.
