London Spine Unit - Back and Neck Pain Clinic レビュー 

I reached out the the London Spine Unit after 3 months of severe pain and being left frustrated by my local NHS and Nuffield Health services.

Within 48 hour of making contact I had an online consultation with Mr Akmal. Before my appointment he had already accessed my medical file and familiarised himself with my recent MRI scan. It was clear right away that Mr Akmal was more knowledgeable than any specialist I had seen before.

I was recommended to have a disk injection and laser surgery. Following my procedure I walked out and instantly felt better then I did when I walked in. If I have future issues with my back this is only one place I will be coming to for treatment.

The consultant was brilliant, caring, friendly and competent. Reception personnel were also very helpful.
It was sometimes a bit difficult to get hold of people by email, having to chase up a reply, and I did not much appreciate having to wait for over 5 hours for a phone call, wasting a whole afternoon of my time.
Also the cost of a very straightforward procedure was, in my view, too high.
This comment covers three visits to the London Spine Unit - 20.02.24 ( face to face), 21.02.24 (procedure), 02.04.24 (follow-up, phone call).

Fixed. I found this team online. Mr Mo Akmal is a consummate professional. As well as clearly being a highly-skilled diagnostician and surgeon, I found Mr Akmal to be a clear, honest and empathetic communicator. Support staff are also very good. Can’t rate them highly enough.

I have two degenerative discs in my lower back and have been suffering with pain for around 6 years. After undergoing multiple surgeries in Devon, with no improvements, I was quite hesitant to move my care over to London Spine Unit as I was unsure anyone would be able to help me. I had lost a lot of movement in my left leg (due to compressed nerves) and wasn’t sure this would come back.

Dr Akmal is a super kind and considerate surgeon, he communicated the problems I had to me clearly, and offered me treatment that was unavailable to me in my previous location (including laser surgery). After my latest surgery in London, my back has felt more comfortable than it has done for 6 years and I once again (only after 6 months of recovery) have nearly full mobility back in my leg for the first time in nearly 3 years. I am so grateful for the support from all the staff at Harley Street for helping reduce the pain and allow me back to full time work. The after care is exceptional and I would highly recommend Dr Akmal to anyone suffering with similar back issues. Thank you so much team.

I had been dealing with lumbar stenosis for many years and my quality of life was greatly affected. Despite trying to manage the pain with medication, the constraints on my activities were significant, impacting family life and limiting my mobility to short distances.

My son researched extensively for treatments and found Mr Akmal and his team who are renowned for their expertise in the field of keyhole surgery for interspinous dynamic stabilisation. From our first meeting, Mr Akmal was understanding, reassuring, and took the time to discuss all my concerns in detail.

The day of the surgery arrived and thanks to the precise skills of Mr Akmal and his incredibly dedicated team, everything went smoothly, and importantly, there were no complications and left the same day.

Weeks have passed since my surgery and I am noticing continual improvement each day. The issues and pain that were constant companions before have vanished. Gradually, I am regaining strength and mobility in my legs.

Additionally, post-surgery care and check-ups have been exemplary. It's evident that the whole team at the clinic truly care for their patients.

Thanks to Dr Akmal and his team I am writing this 2 months after Lumbar Fusion surgery that has fixed a deteriorating crumbling of verterbrae in my lower back that was causing my spinal chord to be severely pinched with associating chronic pain, nerve pinching etc down my legs along with terrible back pain. Since the surgery I have not had a single moment of pains down my legs - my back feels stronger and knowing that this is fixed rather than "patched up" or temporarily helped is fantastic.
Dr Akmal and Dr Lok were both extremely helpful explaining options as to how to fix the problem and now post surgery what to expect during recovery.
Expensive but worth every penny.

I consider my self extremely lucky to have chosen lsu and Dr Akmal while searching for the right spinal surgeon on the net , I suffered from sciatica and herniated disc for a couple of years and was not able to walk at all when I decided to see Dr Akmal , it was straight forward consultation ,advice, reassurance and microdiscectomy all in less than a month

everything went nice and smooth ,I was pain free one hour after surgery and walking freely the day after , it was magic ,my only regret is that I should have done this months ago

Fantastic experience with Mr Akmal and team. I was in and out for surgery on the same day (my previous microdiscectomy had been a 2-night case).

On July 27th of this year, Mr. Mo Akmal at the London Spine Unit preformed a decompression and stabilization operation to address my 12 years of spinal stenosis degeneration. I am now 7 weeks post surgery and virtually pain free. My posture is normal, I’m able to get a proper nights sleep and I am walking two miles per day. I honestly feel like its been a miracle. I had in July L4/5 Lumber Decompression keyhole surgery with a stabiliser inserted. This was done at the London Spine Unit by a wonderful gifted surgeon Mr Mo Akmal. On the same day of my first appointment with Mr Akmal I was able to have an MRI, and diagnosis.
After suffering years of lower back pain and right leg weakness due to sciatica which eventually caused trapped nerves that put me at times in a wheelchair because I was unable to stand for long with the pain. I had tried all the usual complimentary medicines, chiropractors, Osteopaths, but nothing worked and I just got worse as time went on, that is until I found the London Spine Unit and Mo Akmal
I found in Mr Akmal a man who was committed, sympathetic, and who answered all my questions putting me at ease.

. I was up and walking a couple of hours after my surgery completely pain free and have been ever since

i have just reach six months since my spinal fusion. would have to say i received first class treatment all the way through from diagnosis to the operation. after suffering with back pain for nearly a year i went to London Spine Unit for a second opinion. i had scans and diagnosis all in the same day which is so amazing as you come away knowing what is wrong and also the treatments that are available to you. i was told i had severe degeneration of the discs and the first option was to try injections of which i had within a week. this did help to certain degree and then the symptoms crept back and they offered my denervation which really didn't do much to help and my walking got very difficult. i was twisting badly and every day life was getting very difficult. as a last resort they offered the Spinal Fusion which i have to say was amazing. i had this done in the Spinal Unit and within hours was walking with a frame and then discharged by 7pm. we stayed at a hotel nearby for two days and then did a 4 hour journey home after that. i could walk straight, straight away. after two weeks i no longer had to take the strong painkillers any more. i would have to say i did have a lot of pain for the first fortnight, but after that it was manageable. i would recommend Mo Akmal and his team for anyone that needs a spinal fusion.

I was able to watch the entire process from consultation, pre op, surgery and post op. I was most impressed with the capabilities of Mr. Akmal and his team to be able to perform spinal surgery as a day case. Being a medical student having seen patient recovery after such procedures elsewhere, it was unbelievable to see patients walking by themselves and feeling all of their clinical symptoms relieved just a few hours after surgery.

Overall, seeing such a high standard of treatment and patient care throughout all stages of the process has truly inspired me and taught me a lot for the future.

I have been suffering from severe back and left leg pain and weakness for 9 months. At my age, I cannot afford to be off my feet for very long. My left leg muscles were wasting away and the severe pain meant I have been on heavy duty painkillers which made me feel drowsy and light headed. Mr Akmal and his team have been fantastic, unlike the previous doctors that I visited. He immediately identified the disc problem and explained in detail the condition and options of treatment.
He suggested trying simpler methods rather than rushing into surgery. I had my spinal injection which had an immediate impact. The procedure was pain free and the after care has been amazing. I have no pain and my strength and muscles are improving. I am back gardening and walking pain free. The staff at the London Spine Unit were so caring and friendly. The clinic was pleasant and completely unlike the other hospitals that I had previously been treated.
