I will not participate in another Maze study
I had a very poor experience participating in a Maze study through Prolific.
I spent approximately 30 minutes in an audio- and video-recorded session interacting with Maze's AI moderator. Throughout the study, the AI repeatedly told me I was doing a great job and providing valuable feedback. However, the AI itself had multiple problems. It made unusual noises, interrupted me by speaking an answer instead of allowing me to give my own response, and at one point fabricated an answer and presented it as though it were mine.
At the end of the study, the AI verbally instructed me to close the window and submit the study as "NO CODE." I followed those instructions exactly and was immediately automatically rejected for submitting NOCODE/an incorrect code.
Maze's automatic rejection message instructed me to contact them through Prolific if I believed the decision was incorrect, which I did. I received no response from Maze.
I disputed the rejection with Prolific, and Prolific subsequently overturned it, confirming that the submission is no longer rejected and will have no negative impact on my account.
Participants should not have to risk a rejection because of problems with Maze's own AI moderator and completion process. After this experience, I will not participate in another Maze study and I have blocked the researcher.
