HORRIBLE EVERYTHING. I was involuntarily transferred to this bank for my mortgage, and it's been a nightmare. They randomly don't process payments, charge me fees for things that are beyond my control and never resolve the issue. Their mistakes have even hit my credit. I'm moving mortgage companies asap.

M&T Bankâs mortgage servicing is aâŠ
M&T Bankâs mortgage servicing is a mess. The phone reps I spoke with lacked even a basic understanding of how mortgagesâand their own systemsâactually work. When I questioned an escrow increase, they immediately blamed âhigher taxes and insurance.â The problem? My tax and insurance costs had gone down, not up. Once confronted with the facts, the reps had no explanation. Iâm about 80% certain they didnât actually know what escrow is and were just winging it.
Instead of resolving the issue, they placed me on long holds while trying to get answers from leadership. The result was confusion, deflection, and zero accountability. If youâre looking for baseline competence in mortgage servicing, go with a dedicated mortgage company or credit union. Avoid the clown act that is M&T Bank.
Online access blocked by M&T
Could not find online method to download our 1099 tax form for our business accounts. Called for support. They asked a bunch of questions to authenticate account- all answered. Explained that I could only download monthly statements and didn't see an option for tax forms. They then wanted to know who the admin on the online access was? I explained we are a residential coop and account was opened over 20 years ago and we have used the same online user account. Mind you, I am authorized signer on the account. They kept saying that they would have to block the account if I could not have the admin get on the phone. They also would not provide the name of the admin of the potential 10 prior board officers. They mentioned a change of admin is possible but would take 3-5 days or we could go to a branch office. I said we would go to the brank office to deal with the changes. This is something we already had done when changing the officer names on our account which took time to coordinate among all of us. It would have been nice for them to mention the online access admin.
After the call I tried logging back into our accounts and access was blocked! This was on a Saturday and now we have to schedule a weekday appointment to regain access and continue banking online. Completely unacceptable for Business accounts. It may be time to move to a new bank.

Please log out before logging in again. If you closed the browser tab without logging out, wait a few minutes or open a new browser instance to sign in.â as the error message. If I could find another local bank Iâd close my accounts and make the move.

I ended the call with a to-do list of next steps I needed to take. Thanks to Kadi. Instead of feeling defeated, I felt empowered.
Don't pay off your loan at this bank!
This bank has been awful. I paid off a loan on July 9th. Due to the actions of all the employees who have lied to me, it will take me a total of 51 days to obtain the title. Who waits 51 for a title? Two different employees told me that they mailed the title to me. Both lied. Neither of them even cared if they told me the truth. They just wanted to get me off the phone. One was even a supervisor. Get your loan out of this bank before you pay off the loan. You'll be lucky to ever see your title.

The worst bank i have ever worked for .In my TWENTY YEARS of banking i have never ever worked with a manager like the current manager in The Great Neck location,Sheâs the worst manager i have ever seen in my entire banking career.She was the reason i transferred out from the Manhasset location in 2023.She accused me of being late 27 times in 2022 which was a HUGE LIE HR didnât do anything about EilShe been reported several times to HR from several employees and HR is not doing anything about her.She literally forced over TEN employees to quit or Terminated their service.In the years that sheâs been a manager she did not promoted not one of her employees or did not kept one of them for more than a year.It sad that the bank is not doing anything about it.Former employee Matthew Cheong Stole 95k from the vault M&T Bank did not arrest him nor charge him.They allowed him to go and work at another financial institution.They choose to penalize the other employees Eileen Connors i do believe in Karma it will hit you harder than you think You are just heartless and have no feelings for Humanity.What goes around comes around.You did not give not one of your employees a chance to grow in their career at M&T.

First of all I only give them 1 star, because I can not give them a negative rating of 100 stars. M & T Bank is the worst bank. They are even bigger thieves than Key Bank. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH M & T Bank. THEY WILL ROB YOU BLIND. They claim they use simple interest and they do not; they use their own type of interest. We have paid $2,467.00 in interest since June of 20024. When you get your statement and it tells you that you do not owe anything for a year. It is a flat out lie; when you start to pay everything goes towards interest alone. They will not apply anything to the principle, because they are thieves.

M&T Bank
First of all I have had this bank for many years. It wasnât until I had tried other banks that I realized how bad they are. The company is bad enough but the employees are worse. All the branches that Iâve been to have stopped letting you pick up new cards from branch. The fraud issues Iâve had in the last year has been crazy bad and they blamed me and made it out to be like I am doing it on purpose. Yeah right like I wanted to have to go into the bank to get my paycheck and fight to get back to work because I work during bank hours.

actually i have merchant service with people united bank for long time and i have no problem with them. since M&T take over people united bank my my merchant fee , transection etc get dabble i call the customer (8 times in 64 cullender days ) service for rate rewove. then the customer service agent forward my call to the rate rewove teem. the last thing i was lose $7450.00 in rate just 4 billing statement . this is the over charge amount the have done. I'm not reamending any one to go there M&T merchant banking . thanks

Absolutely disgusting company. Mark and Debbie both Supervisors in the mortgage department took my escrow check from our insurance company and told me there was no other way to pay but with them over the phone. Paid this back in April 2025. They put in in the wrong account blamed " back office" and made our escrow account look like we were 1900 short!!!! Not $500!! Called multiple times being told by them both they would fix it only to have our mortgage still reflecting 1600 ( $200 ) more then it should be. Told me they wouldnt change it due to to it not being a bank error!!!!!!!! So they take your payments over the phone, place in wrong account, and its not a bank error.
They'll come back on here and say " call and speak with them " they do not do anything they say they will do.. they take your money with no responsibility and blame it on customers fault for their mistakes of putting it in wrong account. They also have no way of being directed to the managers you speak with because they said they cant be held accountable.. run, run, run from this deceiving company

Had a car loan with these guys for only two months because I traded it in. The loan still shows open (not paid off) on my credit report. So, I tried to log in to my account, and they closed the account online, so I have no access to any of the information. I called, and they asked me to verify the account by telling them my payoff amount. I don't know that! I asked if I could verify the account another way; they said no. I said I just need you guys to report to the credit agencies that this account is closed and paid off. She said, "I'm putting you on hold to see what I can do." Never came back. Rude! And so now I still have an open account with them on credit reports.. even though itâs been closed for months! Terrible group with a miserable customer service person.
The worst bank ever
The worst bank ever. I had a 75 month installment loan for my car. I made 67 out of 75 payments on time. I was late 8 times due my my divorce. Even though i made all payments and recieved my title, these guys are reporting my loan as a charge off. It is impacting my credit score by 100 points. I think they do it for tax purposes. How is it poossible that i paid off the loan and they charge it off. Its very unfortunate.

No online access to credit card accounts. Part of their verification process is that they ask you for the first 5 digits of your SSN, anyone see the issue here? And to top this, a change of address requires that you give them your full SSN!! And that's not even all of it, they record the calls, and the representative CAN also see your SSN. This looks like a scam bank, not a real bank. This is beyond ridiculous. How do they guarantee that employees don't take screenshots of PI? If they get hacked, it will be the easiest access to SSNs ever because all they need to do is listen to the recordings and open the excel tables where all the SSNs are kept for verification purposes.

Nothing but a runaround. We are doing a loan assumption between my sons. He was approved but they failed to let us know they closed the file. We had to reapply and they denied the 2nd time. They are horrible with communication and have given us nothing but a run around. The original loan was bought out by M&T, I would NEVER recommend!!! Awful.
