Misdiagnosed Battery & Poor Customer Service
During the service, I received a phone call from one of the mechanics who advised that my battery had failed testing and urgently needed replacement. I was also told that I required a wheel alignment, despite the fact that I had already specifically booked and paid for this service in advance.
Throughout the conversation, I felt rushed, pressured, and spoken to quite rudely, and I had to repeatedly remind the mechanic that the wheel alignment had already been arranged and paid for.
Based on the advice provided, I agreed to proceed with the battery replacement at a cost of $349.
However, when I collected the vehicle, I requested proof that the battery had failed testing and was advised that this could not be provided. After returning home, I realised the existing battery was still under warranty and could potentially be replaced free of charge elsewhere. I returned to the workshop and requested that the original battery be reinstalled and tested again so I could obtain documentation to provide to the warranty replacement company. (I confirm that I was refunded the $349).
I was again dismissed rudely and told that this could not be done.
The following day, the battery was independently tested by the warranty provider, and the battery did not fail. The test showed the battery was still operating at 96%, and I was provided with photographic proof of the results.
Given this outcome, I am extremely concerned that the battery was either not tested properly by the workshop or that I was pressured into paying for a replacement that was not actually required. Combined with the manner in which I was spoken to and dismissed when requesting evidence of the alleged fault, this experience has left me with no confidence in this business.
As a result, I will not be returning to the South Melbourne workshop in future.
Customers should be able to trust the advice they are given and should not be made to feel pressured or dismissed when asking reasonable questions or requesting proof of recommended repairs.

SCAM!!! Took my car to mycar Tyre & Auto (South Melbourne) for a repair and was told it would be drivable afterward. The next day, I was informed of a major engine issue that required more repairs, which were only mentioned after I’d already paid for the initial service. To make matters worse, the car broke down again just one day later, meaning the original repair didn’t even work. Poor communication, unnecessary extra costs, and no resolution. I would not recommend this place.

Booked Essential, charged broader work for nearly $2000, and the car failed again the next day
I took my car to mycar South Melbourne because it would not start and made it clear I only wanted the minimum repair needed to get it running, as I planned to sell the car soon.
I originally booked and paid online for an Essential service, not an Essential Plus Service. However, the invoice later included an Essential Plus Service. On top of that, when I was at the centre, they initially tried to charge me the service amount again even though I had already paid $249 online. It was only removed after I pointed it out myself. That immediately raised concerns for me about transparency.
I was then charged $1,925.65 for a range of work, including items like an Essential Plus Service, wheel alignment, new spark plugs, and lower control arm work. After collecting the car, it only ran briefly (about 5 minutes back to my apartment) and then would not start again the next day.
I was later told the real issue was major engine failure and that an engine replacement/recondition would cost around $7,000 to $8,000. If that was the likely main issue, I should have been told clearly before I approved a near-$2,000 invoice for broader work.
I raised the issue with both the branch and Customer Care, but mycar refused any refund. Based on my experience, I found the process unclear and very disappointing.

The welcome was very unfriendly, barely enough time to describe what was wrong with the car… when we picked up the car, we still didn’t know what was wrong with it, we were just told to go to another garage, when it was simply a battery problem.

I have had suspensions problems and they have had a couple of goes at fixining the problem. Sadly there is still a knocking noise so I will have to take the car back again when I get a moment …
