Retirement project I actually finished
I have started approximately 47 projects since retiring — woodworking, watercolors, a novel, you name it. All abandoned within a month. Narratone is the first one that stuck, and I think it's because the prompts break it into such manageable pieces. You're not staring at a blank page thinking "write your memoir." You're answering one question. Then another. Then suddenly you have a book. 16 chapters and counting. My wife is impressed, which doesn't happen often.
Love love love
My whole family is obsessed with this app even my wife who says she hates writing haha
she wont stop talking about it lol
got this for my mom for mothers day and now every time i call her shes like "did i tell you i finished another chapter" yes mom you told me but for real its awesome seeing her so excited about something. shes writing about growing up in atlanta and her teaching career and all that. she even figured out how to add photos by herself which if you knew my mom youd know thats a big deal. worth it 100%
Love it but the app needs work
The concept is a 5. The content prompts are a 5. The actual app experience is more like a 3.5, which averages out to a 4 for me. I've had it crash mid-sentence twice on my Android phone, and once it didn't save a whole session — I lost maybe 800 words about my college years which was really frustrating. I now obsessively hit save after every paragraph. Also the font choices for the printed book are limited and kind of dated looking. That said — I've written more in 6 weeks on Narratone than I did in 3 years of "I should really journal more." So it's doing something right.
surprisingly easy
my kids got me this for christmas. not really a tech guy but its pretty straightforward. you open it up and theres a question waiting for you and you just start typing or talking. i like the talk option better cause my fingers are slow. wrote about my time in the navy and fishing with my old man up in minnesota. good stuff
Best gift I ever gave my dad
My dad turned 70 in September and I was so stuck on what to get him. He's the type of man who never talks about himself, you know? I got him a Narratone subscription and honestly did not expect him to use it. Two months later he calls me and says "Jas I'm on chapter 15." I about fell over. He's writing about growing up in Lagos, his first car, meeting my mom at a bus stop. Stories I have NEVER heard. This is the gift that keeps giving, truly. Already bought subscriptions for my two aunties for Christmas.
I thought the printed book was gonna be…
I thought the printed book was gonna be kinda cheap, like a flimsy little photo booklet. Nope, it’s actually solid and feels like a real keepsake. The print came out nice and it didn’t look like random notes thrown together.
Even I could do it (and that’s saying something)
I’m gonna be honest, I’m not good with computers. I thought this would be confusing. But Narratone was actually pretty easy once I clicked around a little.
The questions kinda walk you through it so you don’t stare at a blank page. I just did a little at a time after dinner. And when I messed something up, I found my way back (no panic lol haha)...
Now I’ve got a bunch of my stories written down that my kids have never heard. I didn’t think I’d stick with it, but I did. Pleasantly surprised.
gave this 5 stars easy
gave this 5 stars easy, never thought i’d ever finish “my story” but here i am holding the book in my hands. my head ain’t what it used to be, doctor says i got some memory issues and i lose words a lot but narratone walked me through one question at a time so it didn’t feel scary, just like talking. some days i could only do a few lines and that was ok, it saved everything and let me come back when my brain wasn’t so foggy. my daughter says she learned stuff about my army days and my first job i never told anybody before. the book looks real nice too, like something you’d buy in a store, not a school project. if you’re an old guy like me and worried you “can’t write” or your mind’s slowing down, try narratone anyway, it kinda holds your hand and helps the memories come out.
A sweet way to finally get my stories down
I’m 60, and I’ve been saying for years that I should write some memories down for my kids… but I never knew where to start. I tried a notebook (lasted a week 😅)
Narratone gave me a structure. The guided prompts made it feel doable, and when I got stuck, the little writing “helper” nudged me along instead of making me feel dumb about it.
What I really liked:
- I could type / use voice-to-text depending on the day.
- Adding photos was simple, and it made everything feel more “real” for my family.
- I didn’t feel rushed. I edited and tweaked things until it sounded like me.
The best part is the outcome: my daughter called me after reading a few pages and said, “Mom, I never knew that story.” That alone made it worth it.
I’m still finishing a few chapters, but I’m genuinely excited to hold the hardcover in my hands when it’s done
pretty good for someone like me
i dont really know computers that well but i got narratone working somehow and it’s been helping me put my life and my husband in a book. the questions are simple, i just kinda talk and type what i remember and next thing i know theres a bunch of pages, more than i ever wrote in my whole life. my grandkids liked seeing our old picture on the front, they said it looks like a “real book” which made me proud.
its not all perfect so i give 4 stars. sometimes i click wrong stuff and i get a bit lost and have to back up and start again, screens feel busy for my eyes. but once im in the writing part its pretty easy even for me and i keep going back to add more stories, so that should say something.

Almost like having a patient editor sitting beside me
I’m in my early 70s and honestly never thought I’d get my stories out of my head and into a real book, but Narratone has gotten me farther in a few weeks than I’ve managed in years. The questions really jog my memory and the voice-to-text lets me just talk like I’m chatting with my sister on the phone. I took one star off only because it took me a little while to figure out where everything is on the website, but once I got the hang of it, it’s been smooth sailing. My kids are already asking when “Mom’s book” will be finished, and that alone makes it worth it.

Beautiful book
I struggled with the system at first but got a handle of it after a quick exchange of messages with the lovely people from the team. The photos turned out better quality than I expected for a book from the internet.

it's fun i'm loving it
im still working on my narratone book, typing with two fingers and making a million mistakes but its ok. the questions they ask kinda pull the stories out of my head so it dont feel like “writing a book”, just talking. im not done yet but im actually having fun with it and narratone keeps me going instead of giving up.

Didnt think id finish it but here we are
Im not a writer person at all, I work fulltime in healthcare and by the time I get home Im usually worn out so honestly I didnt expect much when I signed up for Narratone. Somehow answering a few questions here and there turned into this full fledged book in a span of a week that showed up on my doorstep and I just kind of stared at it like, “wow, I actually did this.” The prompts pulled out stuff I forgot I even remembered and the voice thing helped on nights when I just couldnt sit and type anymore. I ordered 4 copies, one for each of my kids, and my oldest son actually texted me “Mom this is really good” which is not something he says alot or easily. The surprise for me was this: I thought it would feel like homework but it ended up feeling more like therapy, in a good way. For what its worth Ive tried regular journals and a couple of those “write your story” workbooks off Amazon and they’re all half finished in a drawer but this one made it to a real hardback book sitting on my coffee table and that alone makes it worth it to me.

Full of pleasant surprises
I bought this as a gift to my father who has recently become very ill and I wanted to write down his life’s stories so they could be kept in our family together.
Unfortunately i didn’t understand at first was that he wouldn’t be interested in typing. Fortunately, Uponlife offered a recording functionality so i just sat down with my dad and he spoke. His stories then got transferred into the computer. Then i realized they have this ai editing function, which expanded on and polished the story - and with great accuracy at that.
Great product and service 10/10

Didn't expect much, but wow
I work in printing and publishing, so I have high standards when it comes to books. I'll admit, I thought this was going to be another cheap-looking print-on demand product. But the quality was excellent. Paper felt rich , the colors were vibrant, and the binding is something you'd expect from a small press. As for the content,it's not ghostwritten fluff - the prompts really helped me get specific and honest. I now have a book that tells my story the way I wanted it told. My wife teared up reading it, and I did too, if I'm honest.

Made writing my story easier than I thought
Didn't think I had it in me to write a whole book. But answering those questions just... opened something up. It was like talking to an old friend who knew exactly what to ask.. The speak to record function helped too cause typing hurts my hands sometimes. Now I've got a real book with my name on it sitting in my living room. Unreal
