The only trouble I have is finding the people I need for modeling with out hiring models at this point to finish up the class.

I have been extending and they have been rather understanding and helpful. They stay true to their promise that completion of their courses are at your own pace. And although there’s a lot of reading (hehe) it’s easy to retain and the little videos are very informative. Not very “textbook” reading at that.

Keeping the very correct course prices in mind, the courses are totally complete and full of useful information for beginners mainly. These is no point of hesitating in taking these courses! They're just great and for a very good price point.

Right course content, highly experienced & helpful advisors

It was an amazing experience. Everyone was so helpful in the students center. And the course it self was well put together.

I really enjoyed the professional photography course. I learned a lot and I feel confident now to start a new pathway as a photographer. The course is very complete and you can talk to your mentors, they have always answered my questions very fast and efficiently.

Good materials if you overlook the glaring typos and incorrect quiz answers (DEATH of Field?!). The friction comes from the lack of follow through and communication. For example, I was told last month that it would take three days to change my Student Forum user name over to my actual name. Still waiting...

I would recommend the New York Institute of Photography to those who desire go beyond knowing only superficial concepts of photography. The NYIP will teach you how to better understand and use your equipment. Such as learning the difference between shutter speed and lens speed. You will learn the key elements of photography, clearly defining your subject, eliminating distractions and learning how to view your work through the eyes of your prospective audience.

I love NYIP because it made it really easy for me to balance my course with a full-time job in journalism.

I really have learned so much! You can get a ton of support and become a professional photographer after this course. I couldn't be more impressed with my improvements over the year's time.

I LOVED my Professional Photography course with NYIP. It's a six-month course if you buckle down. I was gung-ho for three months and then slowed down, so it wound up taking almost the entire two years allotted. It covers virtually every photographic specialty.

I was especially drawn to the promise that I would be mentored through the course. That turned out to be true, but not in the way I expected. The course has six units or sections, and you submit a series of three images at the end of each unit. A NYIP instructor reviews your submission, gives you a letter grade, and records a 12-minute critique that you can listen to. But there's no way to contact this instructor to discuss his/her findings. So it would appear that if something isn't clear, you're out of luck

Not true! Full-time teachers are available by phone during the week and are almost always delighted to answer any question including anything about your homework. So the mentoring is real.

Of course, there is so much more to learn. Just like you're not really a lawyer when you graduate from law school; you have to get some experience. Or you're not really a doctor when you get your MD degree until you complete a residency. If there's any weakness to the Professional Photography course, it's what steps to take to keep learning after you complete it. It turns out there's a wealth of resources out there. I'm particularly fond of The Great Courses series taught by National Geographic photographers. I especially love KelbyOne, a wonderful online community with oodles of classes on every imaginable topic. And I've managed to find some local teachers who can help me develop my skill.

Exam are difficult not because of the content but the way questions are written. lots of negative questions etc

1. I took the Photoshop course. Photoshop is a huge program covering many details, many of them were not covered or just were touched on the surface. About half of the course material had nothing to do with the Photoshop program which I wanted to learn. Too much was devoted to general photography practices and to presentation of the finished product.
2. I expected to get a manual covering the course material for future reference, received none and was told that there is no manual available. Luckily, I screen printed the course pages as I was progressing. They are quite general, but still better than nothing.
3. Videos included in the material were nice, but too much time was spend on personal stories about the photographer presenting the video.

For the most part the pro photography course was vary good and the instructors helpful; however because it was a revamp which evolved from many years there was a lot of content which could have been either deleted or updated. I would also have liked to have had more reviewed exercises.

A lot of great information at your own pace. Love it.

I like the fact that everything is explained so it's easy to understand what happens when you change a setting of your camera. I also like the challenging projects and the more than adequate time given to complete the training course.
