Works great

Works great, i used the 1 week plan to study for exams about mac. It's good that you can pay for this subscription upfront, i don't like surprise costs. Connecting is very easy and the customer panel to control the machines is very easy also. The machines are dedicated so there is no random lag or disconnecting. Works pretty fast. I don't like the verification, it does feel too intrusive and comes right after paying. I wish it was mentioned earlier. All else is very transparent though. I did not need support as everything worked as it should. Would recommend to friends if they need something similar. I chose this service because it's dedicated and the subscription was perfect for what i needed.

It’s impossible to reach support

It’s impossible to reach support. Instead of stopping the service when a payment fails, they will continue charging you, creating a "you owe us" situation. Hoping the founders see this review and change their predatory, customer-unfriendly approach.

Our subscription terms are very transparent and are made clear during checkout. These terms are designed in a way such that the customer doesn't immediately lose access to their production server should a payment fail for some reason. This gives them time to either pay their invoice, or contact us to cancel the service, if they didn't do so before renewal. Sadly, you did neither, and did not respond to our communications at all.

Since we are renting out actual dedicated Mac minis instead of just VMs, there is a direct cost involved if that server is remaining active for 14 days without payment. And as mentioned earlier, we can’t just remove and reset the Mac after just a few days of failed payments, as this would harm our legitimate customers greatly should any short-term payment issues arise.

In addition to our very transparent terms outlined during checkout - we even have a checkbox that you need to confirm that explicitly states the renewal terms - we are very forthcoming in case someone forgets to cancel their service through our customer panel and reaches out through our support channels in an effort to void the latest invoice. This allows us to both provide a reliable, uninterrupted service even in case of payment delays, as well as consumer-friendly terms.

Finally, instead of sending our legitimate claim, based on the contract you agreed to, to a collection agency or taking legal action, we simply canceled the account and blocked further purchase attempts. If we didn’t do this, we would have to increase the prices for everyone so that we can compensate for the regular loss of payments, which we would consider unfair towards our paying customers.

Therefore, we do not see how any part of this process could be construed as a "predatory, customer-unfriendly" approach.

Simple

Simple, painless way to rent a mac in the cloud. The unit was provisioned quickly and ran without fault for the duration I used it. I will defiantly use OakHost again if I need a cloud hosted Mac.

Excellent experience

I had an excellent experience with Oakhost. Their cloud machine worked with my old macbook pro (2011) out of the box right away - single click. I used the cloud machine because I had to have a fast mac with a large ssd for my programming job, and I didn't want to invest $3000. Latency: I'm located in Hungary and I could type in code as if it was my machine, using Google remote connection. Keycommands worked fine, just as copy-pasting between my local and the cloud. My employer required me to do some tricky network things, yet I've never lost the connection to my cloud machine. Plus, OakHost people were extra flexible and also provided me extra assistance when I needed it, in the middle of the night, way outside office hours.
So, I asked them where I could leave a good review for them.❤️
