I totally get how frustrating it can be when a sizing mistake happens, especially with something you were excited to receive. It’s a tough spot, and I truly wish we could have helped more in this case.

Our size replacement policy is something we created to support customers when our sizing runs a bit differently from another brand they wear. That’s why we offer a replacement within two sizes of what was originally ordered, without asking customers to return their original shoes. It’s a way for us to offer some flexibility without overextending what our tiny business can manage.

As a small, family-run business, we don’t have the resources of large brands. I honestly wish we could say yes to every exception, but offering unlimited replacements is just something we’re not equipped to do at our size.

We do also accept returns, but I completely understand that international return shipping can be a dealbreaker for some customers. Unfortunately, this is one part of the process we have no control over. We’re based in Australia, and while we wish we could offer local return options in other countries, it just isn’t something we’re able to do at this stage.

We genuinely try to offer as much as we can and to be as clear as possible about our policies, because we truly want all of our customers to be delighted with their order. But we also have to stay within what’s sustainable for us. Every pair is made to order, which means we don’t have extra stock sitting on shelves to easily swap out. Each size replacement has to be made specifically for the customer, and unfortunately, we’re just not in a position to absorb the cost of replacing shoes when a customer selects the wrong size by mistake.

That said, we’re genuinely grateful you gave Offbeat Sweetie a try, and we hope you could still feel the heart and care that went into your order. If you ever decide to give us another go down the track, we’d love to help you get the perfect fit next time.

Hi Beverly, thank you so much for your detailed review. We genuinely appreciate your honesty and the time you took to share both the positives and your concerns.

We’re really glad to hear you loved the look of the shoes and found them comfortable for long days on your feet, that’s exactly what we aim for. Thank you mentioning that our sizing runs true. We do try to offer a clear sizing guide, but as you mentioned we also offer size replacements if needed. To clarify for other readers, we have a one-time per customer offer where if a customer requires a different size we don’t require them to send back their original shoes to exchange them, we just ask them to pay a flat shipping fee for the new shoes (which is cheaper than the actual cost of shipping shoes) and we send out new shoes in the correct size. We encourage customers to donate their original shoes, but of course they are welcome to do whatever they’d like with them.

Regarding the size replacement process, we totally understand that donating instead of shipping shoes back may have felt unusual, but please understand that this is part of our sustainability effort. Encouraging paying it forward helps reduce landfill and supports local communities instead, but customers do have the option of on-selling their shoes if they prefer, or they can choose to return them to us for a refund instead. I understand that it’s not conventional, but it is cheaper for customers than having them return their shoes to exchange for another size. More importantly, it is part of our values, and it’s noted on our FAQ, product pages and policy pages for full transparency.

We’d also love to gently clear up a key misunderstanding: We are a real, family-run Australian business. The photo you received with your order is truly us, and the drawing on the thank-you note was proudly done by our daughter. We’ve never claimed our shoes are manufactured in Australia though, in fact, we transparently state in the “Please Read” section on every product page and our FAQ page that we partner with product makers in China to make our made-on-demand designs possible. As much as we would love to make our shoes locally, there is currently no manufacturer in Australia that offers custom, on-demand shoe printing. We searched extensively, but this kind of specialised production is only available in China. That said, our shoes are not mass produced. Every pair is made to order, one at a time, specifically for the customer who purchases them. There’s no warehouse, no bulk production, and no wasteful overstock. So while we’re not Australian-made, we are proudly Australian-run, and passionate about creative, ethical production.

That said, we completely respect your values around supporting local. We just hope this adds a bit more clarity around who we are and why we do things a little differently. If you ever reconsider trying us again, we’d love the chance to serve you again and make your next experience even better.

I also really appreciate your support in addressing concerns you’ve seen raised in that other review. Just to clarify for full transparency, we do use high-quality digital mockups on the product pages because our products are not made until they are ordered, but we are very up front about it. Interestingly, the person who left that 1-star review has never actually ordered from us; their complaint was about information we openly state in our FAQ, including our use of mockups. That said, we always do our best to ensure the mockups match the final product as closely as possible, so I’m really glad that was your experience!

We’re taking a moment to update this response for transparency and clarity, as our previous reply became too lengthy in its attempts to address every statement made by this reviewer.

To anyone reading: this reviewer has never made a purchase from our store. Their review is based entirely on their own misinterpretation of our FAQ and other publicly available information. After visiting our website, they left an aggressive and accusatory comment on one of our ads, which included hostile language and false claims such as us choosing not to manufacture in Australia so we can save money by exploiting underpaid workers in China, which is categorically untrue and deeply offensive. Given the accusatory tone and clear intent to provoke rather than genuinely ask questions, we chose to block them rather than escalate the situation by engaging with them.

Following this, they posted a 1-star review suggesting we have something to hide. Despite us responding openly and honestly to each point, including thanking them for alerting us to a fake Facebook page using our name and logo, they’ve continued to edit the review to double down on claims which are either based on misunderstandings or entirely false.

We understand and respect that people may have questions about how we operate, and if you do, we truly welcome them. We pride ourselves on being a transparent, community-minded small business. You’ll see that we respond openly to hundreds of comments across our ads and social platforms every week. If we had something to hide, we wouldn’t be doing that. The public comments on our ads speak for themselves, and we hope they make it clear that we don’t block people for politely asking questions.

Sorry to read that you are not 100% happy with your order.

Regarding our products coming from China, we are very transparent about this and have this information in various places on our website including our FAQ, however I can understand how it may have been missed due to our language barrier so I do apologise if you were disappointed about the origin of our products. Unfortunately there are no other choices when it comes to manufacturing custom-printed footwear on demand, as this is a special type of manufacturing that China has expertise in, and we have been unable to find manufacturers who can do this elsewhere. We would love to be able to produce them locally, and would be first in line to try an Australian manufacturer if one ever became available here.

In regards to the quality of the shoe, I would love to know more about the problem. We have a quality guarantee, so if there is anything wrong with the shoes please don't hesitate to send us an email with a description and photos of the problem so we can make this right for you.
