Worst company in existence!! Every medication prior authorization is denied within 10 minutes of doctor submission. They use AI to determine if people get the medications they need. I had labs done, all showed specidic disease, immediately denied and asked for ultrasound, so paid another $300 for that just yo have them deny again within minutes of doctor submitting. This is my life we are talking about, we have tried all other medications and this US what they do. They are not here to help people they are nasty vultures, I wish they were not who prescriptions had to go through, horrible company with no morals or ethics!!!
No record of my order?
More than once I have called and ordered a prescription. I was told it was ordered and even given a range of dates when I would receive the script. When I never received it I called them again and they said they had no record of anybody ordering a script. I have very high blood pressure and this latest snafu is with a BP medication. I cannot go without it. I asked them since it was their mistake if they would please overnight it to me and they said no that I would have it in 10 days. !!!?
Iâm switching back to my local pharmacy. They make too many mistakes with meds at optum.

The absolute worst experience ever. You are routed to asia where the english is sub par. Then they never get to the point and read off the script. Can we not run a successful company here?
Optum overcharged me for Repatha pens
Optum overcharged me for Repatha pens. They charged me $568 and then upped that amount the next day to $578 for 7 shot pens (84 day amount) while their website indicated $515 for 8 pens (100 day amount). After several discussions (over 4 days) with various people and departments, put on hold, etc, etc. I gave up!! Look how simple this could be, just charge me what is on the website for the amount indicated.

These people are evil. After 4 years of taking a medication for chronic conditions, they required a prior authorization, which they then denied. They stated some arbitrary reason for the denial. It took an appeal an after a month and many many angry phone calls they approved it. But I went a month without medication. I'm retired and this was a PPO plan, so not what you would expect.
They lose faxes sent it
They lose faxes sent it, then deny they were ever recieved, and lie about available refills and arrival dates. Apologize profusely then get angry when you dont grovel
Can I offer up zero stars?
I wish there was the ability to give no stars. This company will wait until the last second to fill your prescription. As a result, the meds will not show up on time. They also donât let you know when theyâre out of medication. Do you know how you find out? They are out of medication? It just doesnât show up, you call and then they tell you. By then you are in a pickle. Unfortunately, this is the company that my employer requires us to use and Iâve just decided itâs not worth it. I pay out-of-pocket now.
Order errors 90% of the time
90% of the time, we have to call due to order errors. Wrong amount sent, missing prescriptions, order not even shipped, sent to old address, no notice of out of stock meds, you name it, they manage to do it. Difficult to get through to a real person, BOTS are clueless. My spouse is on the phone again as I type this. Just told med is out of stock, no idea when they can get it, no help in where/how to get a vital medication. Left on your own to figure it out so you don't end up in the ER. No one anywhere is interested in improving it either. Been like this for literally YEARS!!
Their error and still no refund
It is a nightmare to get a refund from Optum Rx. In error, they deducted $900 from my account for a prescription that totaled $230. I noticed the error when the amount posted to my account. Of course, I contacted them immediately, not being naive to think they would contact me. I have made multiple contacts with Optum trying to get this resolved and my money has yet to be refunded. With each call or chat, I am told two to three days and the refund will be in my account. Well, that surely did not occur. I filed a complaint yesterday but my guess is that will tossed in the circular file. My next move is to the billing department. With such incompetence, how do they remain in business??
Their agents will say anything but do nothing
They somehow got hold of a prescription that I had been getting from a neighborhood pharmacy. They said it would take up to 10 days to arrive which was long after I would run out. One agent told me how the neighborhood pharmacy could request a transfer to fill it immediately but when I went there OptumRX refused the transfer. Then three agents on three different days said they canceled the order so I could have my doctor send a new one but all three lied and it was not canceled. When my doctor sent a prescription to my neighborhood pharmacy OptumRX denied it because the original order had not been canceled and refused to make an exception even though I had proof it was their own agents fault for not canceling the order. I had to pay out of pocket.
Very Poor Service
For the second year in a row Optum healthcare has failed to take action to provide the basic actions needed as a healthcare provider. They failed to submit the paperwork to my insurance provider for approval of medication before the expiration date. I informed Optum in January 2026 that the prior authorization for my medication was to expire at the end of February and needed to be resubmitted for approval. I called a week ago and again asked that they take action. Now, as we are in the middle of the month of March and Iâm out of this medication, my insurance provider is still waiting for the prior authorization request from Optum. How can you call yourself a healthcare provider when you canât provide the basic healthcare needs for your patient.

Cancelled my order with no notice
My doctor sent a perscription to Optum Special Pharmacy. They informed me it needed to be approved by my insurance company. In 2 weeks Optum informed me it was approved. I placed the order on the website and paid for it. Weeks later I checked status on the order only to find it was cancelled. I was never informed. I asked why and they said my doctors office didnt answer the phone for a approval to ship it. This is the most irresponsible company I've ever dealt with. I'm done

They so-called "manage/administer" my wife's UHC healthcare programs and benefits, and it is a total waste of our time and emotions, a real disaster, so much confusion, incompetence, a huge SNAFU.
UHC offers $100 HRA benefit for enrolling in a some programs, like Cancer Case Management Program, but it wasted so much of our time and caused us so much frustration that now we would rather pay them $100 to leave us alone and save us time and emotions/frustration.
