I went on the Peru trip from the 3-14th August.

Pre-trip:

I was really excited to book this trip and had no issues when I booked it in the Black Friday sale. However, as it came nearer to the tour date, I couldn’t find my booking online and there was no payment link to pay or reminders that the date was coming up. I emailed numerous times to PP asking if they had my booking, had my deposit gone missing etc and although they did get back to me each time, it took at least 4-5 business days for a reply which just isn’t good enough if you are a company running group trips. Also it’s not acceptable to lose bookings and not make it easy to pay for the trip - the customer shouldn’t have to do the chasing and then wait ages for a response. They blamed it on their website upgrades but it was difficult sitting there waiting for a reply when you constantly saw them put up new tik toks. This took the shine off the start of the trip and something I think PP need to invest in more as it was poor customer service and put doubt in my mind if the trip was going ahead and if my money was safe. I also received numerous emails asking me to fill out forms etc but they were addressed to other individuals on the group that I hadn’t even met yet - we shouldn’t be receiving personal details of other individuals over email and I am sure this doesn’t comply with GDPR so again, something PP need to look into as I didn’t give consent for my details to be shared with people I hadn’t even met yet.

The trip itself:

The trip itself was good overall. They do use the company Peru hop to navigate around so you could easily do the trip yourself, but the transport was well organised. Our guide, Debs, was great and we really loved her passion for Peru and her kindness. She was also very experienced and knowledgeable. The itinerary for the most part was good - but there are very long travel days and I don’t feel going to Puno after a long 24+ hour overnight bus is the best approach - we hardly had time there and everyone felt very sick from the altitude so most of us wished we broke up the journey and stayed in Arequipa for the night / day instead and then headed to Cusco - a 24 hour bus where the seats don’t lie flat wasn’t the best experience. However, the 3 day Inca trek and the activities were very well organised and we all enjoyed them a lot. We got circuit 1 tickets for Machu Picchu and an entry time of 6am which was perfect for beating the crowds so something we did appreciate.

The quality of the accommodation was mixed. The hostels they use in Lima, Huacachina and Cusco were great - they did put all of us in one single 12 bed dorm which was a lot and would have been better to have slightly smaller rooms but the hostels were great quality and comfortable, and luckily we had a good group for the most part. However, the accommodation in Paracas and Puno were awful. The rooms were freezing, tiny and poor quality bunk beds which at times we thought would break. There was sometimes limited hot water (although maybe due to the local areas). These accommodations didn’t feel safe, especially as female travellers and shocking given safety for women is something PP allegedly prides itself on. As the accommodation was so poor in those places, a few of us decided to stay somewhere else in aguas calientas which we are grateful for as the rest of the group reported poor accommodation there with mould - but it felt like PP were so focused on putting us on the cheapest accommodation that they could rather than thinking what would be comfortable still on a budget.

Overall, I'm not sure I would travel with PP again. A big plea from me - please sort out your website and pre-tour communication and focus more on investing in customer service to be more accessible, and less on social media content as it’s so frustrating knowing you are waiting for a reply to and email and seeing the most numerous tik toks whilst you wait for a response. I do also think they need to think about their accommodation as some of it was not safe at all, although have seen they are now classing this Peru trip as ‘budget’ which is probably a better description than they had previously as this trip was definitely done on a budget by PP!

I’ve been back from my group trip to Indonesia for a couple days now and I’m still struggling to find the words to describe how amazing it was. I needed this trip so badly! I’ve almost booked with Hannah the trip “guide before” but I’m glad I waited so I was able to meet Ikhsan our local host. I don’t have enough words to describe how good of a host Iksan is! We would be out and about so busy and somehow he would send a message out. With every stresser and hiccup ( an earthquake) Iksan and Plotpackers had a solution. Ikhsan became not only a guide, but a very close friend of mine. I hope everyone’s able to meet Ikhsan someday. I will never forget this trip an amazing time I had with everyone on it.

Can’t recommend going on a trip to Indonesia or a group trip with Hannah enough!

Jossy was amazing as a guide - always having all the answers to our endless questions (at all hours), willing to have a laugh with us and made sure we all made it through everything safely!

This was my first group trip, and it exceeded expectations! From the activities to the transport, everything was so well thought-out. Special shoutout to our local guide Ikhsan, who truly made the experience! He brought great energy and exceptional organization and adapted quickly when an earthquake changed our itinerary. By the end of the trip he was like family. Highly recommend plotpackers and Indonesia specifically!

Ikhsan was our guide for two weeks in Indonesia. I can confidently say he was a big reason the trip was so amazing. He did so well guiding us everyone, trusted him with my life. By the end of the trio he felt like family. So grateful for a group experience with the best guides<3

The Peru trip was so well organised ensured we saw all we wanted to even with the distances. It was lovely to have a small group as made it feel more welcoming and like a little community. Jossy our guide was so lovely and accommodating, making us feel welcome and part of everything. She was very knowledgeable and constantly gave us insights into the Peruvian culture which wouldn’t be known unless your a local.

I just finished up a trip with plotpackers to Indonesia. Not only did they assign us the best tour guide in the world who exceeded all of my expectations, but smoothly re arranged the trip as needed due to an earthquake. Our tour guide Ikhsan quickly became much much more than just a tour guide. He is a friend for life and I hope thousands of people get to know him in the way that we did. Thank you plot packers and thank you Ikhsan for the best trip of my life 💓 highly recommend doing a group trip to meet like minded people that want to travel with an itinerary and not worry about any of the planning!

Hands down the best travel experience i have ever had! The biggest shoutout to my guide Ikhsan!!!! The trip would not have been the same without him, he is the nicest, silliest, most helpful guide and anyone would be so lucky to have him show you around indonesia. The trip overall had the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation and every detail was taken care of :) I would relive this trip one million times if i could!

Jossy was great! She was very helpful and kind! I give her 5 stars. I give the overall trip 4 only because, I wish that the meals had more variety. There was also a lot of confusion about the hiking portion of the trip. It wasent until Jossy was able to explain it to us in person what we were doing. Most of the hostel options were great!

Flying to the other side of the world in a 570 ton to plane is not sustainable. If we carry on as we are we will disrupt our Goldilocks climate where everything is just right to sustain 9 billion people.This is green washing at its finest. The planet is in a state of emergency. I can't see how a dormitory with strangers is safe.

Missing Guide and Safety Concerns
The tour description indicated that participants would be accompanied by a guide throughout the trip. We received an email stating that a guide would meet us on the day of arrival at 3 pm at our hostel. Afterwards we got a message in our groupchat from a psrzon, who was supposed to be our tourguide, that he will meet us on the next day since we are starting the tour the day afterwards. After telling him that the tour is supposed to start on the next day (not in 2 days), they send us a driver instead of the tourguide. Probably because they made a mistake in the startingday of the tour. The Driver was friendly but did not have the knowledge or expertise to provide guidance about Sri Lanka’s culture, history, and attractions.

Besides the lack of information about Sri Lanka we also had no guide to join us on the sunrise hike to Little Adam’s Peak: During this activity, we were sent off alone, in complete darkness at 4:30 a.m., without being informed that we would need torches or flashlights with total of four girls We asked if the driver was going to join us and he said no.

Accomodation Issue in
On the itinerary, we were assigned a hostel in Ella. However, the room conditions were not acceptable or safe for female travelers:
We were placed in a shared dormitory with unrelated men, without curtains or privacy (see attached pictures). Plotpackers promotes tours as enabling women to travel safely. In this situation, privacy and safety were clearly compromised, and we could not reasonably stay in the hostel. As we complained, our driver got this message from Plotpackers: “on the itinerary it says for Ella: Check into your hostel in Ella
After a scenic journey we’ll arrive in the charming mountain town of Ella. Your guide will help you check into our hostel, known for its stunning views, chilled-out atmosphere, and easy access to local cafes and trails. You’ll get settled into your shared dorm room and have time to unwind and recharge. so it does say shared rooms and this shouldn’t be a surprise”.

This response was dismissive and failed to take our safety concerns seriously, effectively communicating that we were expected to sleep in a mixed dorm with unrelated men despite explicitly stating that we did not feel safe doing so. This handling of the situation stands in clear contrast to your marketing of safe travel experiences for women.

Also the plotpackers trip from sri lankan with the influencer Lara went to the tea factory and had a complete different experience, we only got a tour but they went into the fields to pick tea as well.

After contacting plotpackers about this they could nog give any suited solition otherwise then a discount on the next trup that you book through them, which i will not do again.

I did now 4 trips with plopackers and really loved it. Everything was really wel organised, all the guides were local so they know al the good spots, transport, activities were amazing and realy unic. Because of plotpackers i even was able to live on the maldives😁 i cant wait until my next trip👏👀

Such a great company to use when wanting to meet new people on a budget. I had the best time, the guide was so lovely and took us to some amazing locations! Already booked another trip for next year

Plotpackers is exactly what someone like me who hates planning but wants to travel off the beaten track needed!!

I’m so happy I took the plunge and booked my trip as it made me realise how easy traveling and finding friends in a foreign country where I know no one can be!!

I’ve been on 3 Plotpackers trips, soon to be 4, and each one have been a blast. The guides are so knowledgeable and make travelling an unknown country so easy. Any pre-departure questions and concerns are promptly answered by the email team that quickly put my mind at ease. Highly recommend.

The experience was amazing and organised so so well!! Would definitely recommend!!

Had the best time with plotpackers, met some amazing people and had the most incredible experiences I’d have never had without them! Cannot recommend enough from start to finish!

Last year I booked my first group solo tour to Tropics of Thailand with Plotpackers- date of tour 27th July 2026. I’d booked all the flights separately- already to go.

Two weeks prior to the trip, I was only made aware that there was only me and one other person via a group chat I got added into from the tour guide ( not told from the company themselves). This was quite upsetting for me as this is my first solo trip and was quite anxious about travelling alone. I had been really looking forward to meeting other solo travelers in a group and booking onto this trip was a huge step outside of my comfort zone.
Finding that there is only one other person (excluding the tour guide) had made me feel sad and not want to go on the trip.
I feel really blind sided by Plotpackers and feel this really should have been communicated last month that the numbers were low so other options and decisions could have been made. This should have been expressed by Plotpackers, not from a tour guide 2 weeks prior. I put my trust in the company and felt there had been no transparency back.
The company is an advocate for encouraging female solo travelers to make new friendships and to experience new places in groups and I got landed a complete opposite experience. I did not feel safe that there was only me and another person as if anything went wrong one of us would have been on our own or may have wanted to do different things leaving us alone. Besides the fact the other person did not responded to anything on the group chat which made me feel like I was scammed. I feel group tours shouldn't be able to go ahead with numbers below 4 for this reason.
I had been following Plotpackers on Instagram for a really long time and this did not reflect the things I saw of others experiences. Their many posts and reels of nice groups together was not the experience I was going to have- please be mindful of believing the things you see.

On top of that, their customers service is so slow, they take over a week to respond which isn’t good enough when problems arrive. They refused to give me a refund- after I expressed how poor their communication had been through out with emails, wrong invoices and never even sending me their t&c for the beginning.

Please be mindful of what you see on instagram and don’t get fooled like it did.
They will run trips regardless of numbers and not tell you.

I lost money a lot of money choosing not to go on the trip last minute. However, did not want to risk being half way around the world, not feeling safe and having scammy doubts by the company which they proved to me prior.

Everything was amazing! Especially having our guide Rico, he did his best to make sure we knew what was happening and kept us safe! All the activities were fun and were such an amazing experience.
