I'm sorry your first few experiences didn't quite hit the mark, but I'm so glad you gave PLY another chance. It was lovely to read that your Bowling experience felt different, and even better that you left having made a new friend.

One thing we've learned from our community is that friendships rarely happen overnight. For many members, it's around their third experience that things really start to click. Showing up again, seeing familiar faces and giving yourself more than one chance to connect can make all the difference.

Thank you for your feedback, though I'd like to add some important context.

This review was posted more than 24 hours before the event was due to take place, so it had not yet happened. Bookings don't close until 5pm on the day of the event, and we very often fill remaining spaces with additional guests right up until that point. The group you saw was therefore still forming, not final.

Safety is genuinely important to us. We stay available on WhatsApp throughout the entire event, and we only host in partner venues that have been vetted. On balance, while we aim for an even gender split and it usually works out that way, numbers can vary week to week and we can't guarantee an exact 50/50 mix for any single event. At the time you cancelled there were already two women in the group, not one.

We'd have happily explained all of this and moved you to a different event had you messaged us, but we didn't hear from you before the booking and membership were cancelled. If you'd be open to it, please reach out and we'll gladly help you find an event that's a better fit.

Hi, and thank you for taking the time to share this.

We're sorry to hear you were disappointed. We did look into your booking, and our records show the reservation was cancelled before the event went ahead, so we weren't able to host you on the day. We wanted to gently mention that, as some of the detail here describes the event as though you'd attended. You appear to have had a positive conversation with the team who offered you a credit for a different event, so this review over 2 weeks later was unexpected.

A couple of things worth clarifying for anyone reading. Attendee profiles, including photos, are visible ahead of each event, so there is information there to help you get a feel for who you'll meet. And the matching is based on the profile details guests share with us, so the two points here sit a little at odds with one another.

On the venue, this one was moved because more people booked than we could comfortably host in someone's living room, which we felt was the right call to give everyone a good night. Guests also received a free drink to make up for the change of setting.

We did want to provide a little more context around a few of the points you mentioned. PLY is indeed the next chapter of Storiboard Club, and we’re really proud of that evolution. Since rebranding, we’ve worked hard to improve the overall experience; from thoughtful matching and curated events to member support and partnerships with venues across the UK.

In terms of activity payments, these go directly toward the experiences themselves. We work closely with our venue partners to secure heavily discounted rates exclusively for PLY members, while the membership itself covers matching, curation, community features and ongoing support.

We’re sorry to hear the matching didn’t feel aligned for you. Age is only one factor we consider alongside preferences, availability, and group dynamics, but we know connection is personal and not every event will click straight away. That said, many friendships do grow from seeing familiar faces over time, which is also why we’re proud to have regular members returning week after week.

For members who prefer meeting entirely new people at each event, our customer success team is always happy to make a note on your profile. Just reach out via WhatsApp or email and we’ll do our best to tailor your experience.

Our personality quiz plays an important role in helping us match people with others who are similar in age and outlook. We tend to have a mix of new and returning members at each event, and you’re absolutely right, when people form genuine friendships through our platform, they naturally want to come back. That’s something we’re proud of as it reflects the meaningful connections being made. At the same time, I completely understand how this can sometimes feel difficult for newcomers. We’re actively working on improving this by introducing new icebreakers, conversation prompts and hosting styles to create a more inclusive atmosphere from the get go.

I’m also really sorry to hear about your experience with the restaurant. We carefully select our partner venues and continuously review them based on member feedback. If a location no longer feels welcoming or enjoyable, we take that seriously and look for better alternatives - your experience truly guides those decisions.
