Permanent Damage thanks to false advertising and information with-holding.
I undertook 14 session of laser hair removal for my face (with approx 7 including my neck), over a period of 2 years, at Results Laser Clinics (RLC). Unfortunately, due to their false advertising and refusal to inform me of any risks that are associated with laser treatment, I now have to deal with excess hair growth that is thicker and much worse than when I started.
I reached out to them in February asking for a refund and compensation given the permanent damage as well as a request that they correct their false advertising and warn clients sufficiently. My concerns and emails were ignored. Below is a copy of the letter I sent detailing everything meticulously:
"I am writing to formally demand a full refund of the total cost paid (approx. $570) and seek appropriate compensation for laser hair removal services (face and neck) conducted between June 2023 and May 2025. This demand is based on misleading and deceptive conduct and a major failure of Consumer Guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.
1. Misleading Representations
At my initial consultation session, I was explicitly promised that the laser would "kill the hair follicle" and that 6â10 sessions would result in a permanent reduction requiring only annual maintenance. At no point was I informed of the risk of Paradoxical Hypertrichosis (stimulated hair growth) or that facial hair would require "indefinite" treatment. This sentiment continued throughout my 14 sessions of treatment, despite my raising of concerns that I noticed minimal difference in hair reduction and that my hair was growing back fast.
The contradictory explanation provided to me in February 2026 â that the area is "hormonal" and treatment never ends â proves that the clinic either lacked the necessary expertise for treating facial hair or intentionally withheld material risks to induce me into a long-term contract.
2. Failure to Provide Services with Due Care and Skill
Technicians repeatedly skipped areas and I had to constantly request that they go over areas again. In one instance I came back the next day for a re-administration of the laser session because they had missed large patches across my upper lip. Most significantly, a technician burnt off the baby hair on one side of my forehead. I immediately ceased treatment at that point given how concerning this development was. When contacted to book another follow up session I reported the incident and cited it as the reason for my refusal to continue with Results Laser Clinic, and also noted that I had done more than the required 10 sessions. Though I refused to provide photos for personal reasons, I offered to come in person and show the affected area as well as submit a more formal report. I was never contacted again. This lack of professional oversight is unacceptable and dangerous.
3. Current Status & Consequential Loss
Since ceasing treatment, the hair on my face, which was actively targeted by the laser treatment for 14 sessions, has regrown thicker and more visible than before treatment began. I have paid approximately $570 to receive a result that has actively damaged my appearance, with no way to rectify the result unless I seek further, much more expensive corrective measures. Had Results Laser Clinics truly been a responsible service provider with adequate experience in the field, they would have not used such misleading advertising nor concealed the crucial information regarding hair regrowth, indefinite treatment and risks from their clients and would have positioned me to take very different action. I know I would not have undertaken laser treatment had any of this information been divulged at the initial consultation session.
Required Resolution
I require a full refund of all fees paid plus a written proposal for compensation for the distress and the physical damage caused (the stimulated hair growth).
Should this matter not be resolved by 20th of March, 2026, I will immediately proceed with the following:
Statutory Reporting: A formal report will be lodged with the ACCC regarding your clinic's misleading advertising and the Health Complaints Commissioner for unsatisfactory treatment and negligent service leading to permanent damage.
Legal Escalation: I will lodge a claim via VCAT to recover the funds and seek damages for "consequential loss" under the Australian Consumer Law.
Public Interest & Social Disclosure: I will be sharing a detailed account of this experience (including the "hormonal" contradictions, poor, inconsistent service and the stimulated hair growth) across social media platforms, Google Reviews, and local community forums.
I look forward to your prompt response and a swift resolution to avoid further escalation."
I am now proceeding to escalate this matter.
