Extremely pleased! Amazing service

I sent my mint Japanese Coca-Cola Game Gear import to RetroSix for various upgrades and modifications, including a full recap, CleanScreen, CleanJuice Kit, and CleanAmp. I am delighted with the workmanship and instant and private 1-2-1 discord customer service with Luke. Their responsiveness, professionalism, and expertise are second to none. I'm incredibly pleased, and I'll trust them again with another one of my consoles.

Une bonne expérience mais avec quelques impaires

J'ai commandé pour la première fois sur leur site mon expérience reste mitiger mais positive dans l'ensemble...

Le coter Négatif d'abord

- 1er point : Le délai de traitement de la commande j'ai commandé le 01 Août j'ai reçu ma commande le 14 Septembre ... 1 mois et demi pour une commande ce qui est énorme !
Je sais que retrosix est une entreprise familiale à taille humaine je m'attendais à des délais mais pas autant je pense que cela est dû a une mauvaise gestion de la préparation de commande car les pièces étaient toutes en stock (sauf celle en personnalisation) et au lieu de réserver les pièces le temps que celle avec personnalisation soit prête d'autre sont passer en rupture et cela allonge les délais. Et surtout pas de geste commerciale pour remercier de l'attente ça c'est pas cool !

- 2nd point le site web ne prévoit pas le paiement des taxe de 20% en France sauf si on a un numéro de TVA pour les pros (pour autant cela ne prend pas de temps à configurer sur le site web), bon j'avais conscience de la législation des douanes mais résultat je dû surveiller afin de pouvoir payé la TVA avant la livraison afin de limité les frais de gestion, autre suggestion mettre un avertissement dès 135 livres sterling de commande car cela génère en sus des frais de douane, une petite attention qui peut éviter des mécontentements ^^

- 3e point : le Service Client, retrosix propose un Service client via Discord, ok pourquoi pas, mais les demandes devrait être privé et non ouverte a tous et a nouveau c'est parametrable sous discord...

Bon pour le coté négatif c'est fait les coté positif de retrosix :

- Service client réponds rapidement
- Les produits sont de très bonne qualité
- Propose un wiki très complet pour les réparations
- Vidéo tuto que je suis car on y apprend plein de chose
- Des prix abordable même avec la TVA a rajouter
- Revendeur en Europe (sauf que le catalogue n'est pas complet c'est dommage)

Pour résumer des points positifs et négatifs mais qui leur laisse une marge de progression, ce commentaire n'est pas pour taper sur les doigts et j'espère qu'il sera prit de manière constructive car Retrosix reste un bon site de pièces qualitatives et qui je suis sur quand tout est en stock doit être plus réactif sur l'envoi des commandes.

SUPER WORK to my AMIGA 1200!

Very very happy with the work done to my pride and joy, my Amiga 1200, the mods, upgrades and repairs are excellent. I have already sent off my 2nd item for them to fix. Will be using again and recommending to all. Especially want to give a big shout out to the comms from Luke and his team, during the process advising me, and especially the after sales support that Luke gave me for free. Massive Thumbs up! Amateur work, bad repairs and customer service

If you want to have your console butchered and have workarounds instead of decent repairs, go with retrosix.
I sent them an American Snes and they retrobrighted the shell WITH THE POWER AND RESET BUTTON attached. They didn't even bother removing them, which takes 5 seconds. They were perfectly purple with the text very visible, now they're faded and look terrible. The shell broke during the process, which is ok since it can happen, but when they repaired they spread glue all over the place, 3 different spots up 10cm away from the repair area, ON THE TOP OF THE SHELL, whereas the broken part was on the side. A proper amateur job!
For the electronic repair part, I PAID for a recap and guess what, the console came back with old caps. I started suspecting that and asked for confirmation over email, which Luke confirmed it was recapped. I got the console independently verified by a specialist (NOT another shop, the guy lives in Australia and checked my console for free) and it was clear the console had the original caps. This is fraud, plain and simple.
He also did dodgy repairs and when questioned can't explain the "work" carried out. My console had a mod for PAL-M region and instead of asking me the history of the console, he made assumptions and changed the crystal, also, instead of connecting a wire that was previously installed for that mod to the original place, he connected it to pin 19 of the video encoder. The other end of that wire was connected to the pin 44 of the CPU and is his tiktok video Luke says "not sure what that is" and he didn't make an effort to understand what that was, just went liberally making connections without understanding what he was doing. Don't trust my word! Just go to his tiktok page and search for "Why is the American SNES thinking it's PAL" and see it for yourself. You will see people are making comments on the fact the console doesn't have red colour on composite video, he said he tested but that was the way the console was shipped back, without red!

While getting my console checked, I ran the Nintendo bun-in test and it gave me errors related to the CPU and PPU, could this be caused by Luke connecting the CPU to the video encoder in a connection that doesn't originally exist? I don't know and there's no way to know since I haven't tested it before sending the console for "repair". What I know is that the console came back and one game that used to work and was played before sending the console to him doesn't work anymore.

For the customer service, I second what was said by another person: his answers are short, vague and childish.
To be fair Luke provided me with a partial refund of about 53% of the total amount I spent (£175 considering the repair, retrobright, capacitor replacement, additional engineering time and shipping). If we consider the recap wasn't even delivered and I'll need to spend at least £20 (likely more) sourcing new Power and Reset buttons from the US, that leaves me only with £37 refund which is obviously not enough to get this console fixed by someone who knows what is doing. I got a partial refund but I cannot even remotely feel partially satisfied with the extremely low quality service.

Ah, turnaround time was 4 weeks and he took 6 to return the console. There's no single positive thing about my experience, I'd give 0 stars if I could.

EDIT AFTER RETROSIX REPLY: The reply just confirms his messy communication and poor understanding of the customer. I am NOT complaining about the shell that broke during the process, I understand it can happen, I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT THE MESS YOU DID WITH GLUE AND THE FACT YOU RETROBRIGHTED THE PURPLE BUTTONS WHICH DID NOT NEED THAT, is is clear???

Great that you asking people to watch the recording, I also recommend that, it is clear for anyone to see you connect the wire from previous mod to a different place, you also said yourself "not sure what that is", never tried to understand what that was. Your video also DOES NOT show the blue wire you installed to bypass the composite video caps that were supposed (and paid!) to be replaced.

How can you say I was happy if I literally answered your 2 days after I received the console complaining about the poor quality of the retrobright, and one day later I reported to you the game that stopped working, THAT WAS THREE DAYS AFTER I RECEIVED THE CONSOLE IN JUNE, I have that in an email exchange. Again, things you say don't make any sense.

I'll let people judge for themselves if the refund of £37 (minus the recap that wasn't delivered, minus the buttons that were ruined) is fair and enough to get the console proper serviced or not.

Later you found one game didn't work for you with a light gun was your only complaint which we worked with you for weeks to help identify the cause.

RetroBrite comes with big warning on website about it discolouring some consoles. You just didn't read it.

You were also refunded out of nothing but courtesy for the work done, for you to then also try and scam PayPal for another amount to be refunded on top of this that related to something else completely.

Glad your no longer a customer and glad for anyone to watch our work on TikTok any time to feel of they trust our experience and skill or not, instead of believing a disgruntled customer after money back for work done 👍

Game Gear Repair

Sent my Game Gear for a cap replacement using the 1 week expedited service. It was back in my hands 7 days later, repaired and working great. Straightforward process and would happily use RetroSix going forward. The You Tube videos about fault diagnosis and repairs are also fascinating.

Would not recommend…

Would not use retrosix again and wouldn't recommend them due to poor customer service. I bought a kit which was sent out incomplete and it was only once I contacted them for support I was told that yes, "typically the items you need would be included" essentially was made to feel like it was an inconvenience to deal with customers. The correct part was sent out 2 weeks later, I would have definitely gone with a competitor had I had known and definitely will in future.

Brilliant

I had a whole bunch of equipment to trade / get repaired, so I got into contact with Luke and he was happy to take it all in and send a fair offer which we agreed on!
I got 2 crystal xboxes upgraded to the max (SSD, new caps, modchip, custom dashboard, etc), a PSP serviced and a GBA and a GBC service. First of all, I loved the options availiable on the website, and the information on the wiki was in depth. Luke had incredible knowledge, with tools readily available to perform a whole multitude of mods. I felt more than happy to leave it in his and his team's hands, so I shipped my stuff halfway across the U.K to get to them. They recieved them with no problems at all!

Once I received the equipment back, the first thing I noticed was how incredible it came packaged back. Very safe double walled boxes, every item individually carefully wrapped in bubble wrap bags to ensure safety. Not a scratch on anything when I unpacked it all.

The xboxes are in beautiful condition now, and Luke has installed some system tools to help me configure the system to my needs (without my having to find the tools myself!) I've also asked a couple questions in regards to the works he has done, and he has replied quickly and with superb knowledge.

All around great experience, personally I'll be coming back when I need more servicing / equipment!

I needed an EPROM programmer

I needed an EPROM programmer, and found RetroSix stocked (in the UK!) the fairly well respected if Chinese XGecu T48 device.

After reading about that device in various places on the web, and not really seeing any significant bad reviews about it (far from it in fact) I ordered one from RetroSix on their website.

It was delivered by a decent courier (DHL) in very short time.

After some minor confuision (My fault!) I sucessfully downloaded (from China) the correct software and it is all working very well indeed. Not programmed an EPROM (yet!) But the Logic Device functional test facility has now been fully tested, finding one squiffy 74 series TTL device in an old GPIB diagnostic device I have. (Works when cold, one gate failed when even finger warmth was added!)

One very happy customer here. Thanks Luke and team.

Luke did an outstanding job on my Amiga…

Luke did an outstanding job on my Amiga 500+ which I’ve owned for 33 years. My request included some remedial work, fixing some issues created by another service provider. This other provider installed a Gotek by feeding wires through the seal in the rear of the casing and using an incorrect method to connect it to the motherboard - in the months following this service, the machine failed to boot. Luke brought my Amiga back to life, installing the Gotek into an external floppy drive case so that it could be connected via the port and enabling switching between internal floppy drive and Gotek. He also upgraded workbench and offered a few extras free of charge. I wholeheartedly recommend RetroSix for repairs and mods, as the attention to detail, professionalism and overall quality of service is exceptional - one very happy customer.

Don’t believe everything you read

I did a lot of research before going with a supplier for a couple of different gameboy projects, and I read a lot of hate and negativity about Retrosix (some of it getting very directed and personal towards members of their staff) from a big segment of the modding community.

Despite this they were the only company I could find who could provide the specific parts and turnaround I wanted, so I figured I’d try my luck and see how it went.

To my surprise, their service has been fantastic - Luke is very responsive on their discord, any issues I’ve had with orders (both those caused by me making an error and the arrival of a damaged part) have been resolved quickly and extremely fairly, including throwing in a small part for free when I forgot to add it to my order!

It’s a shame that negative comments always seem to travel much further than the positive, I’m glad the company still seems to be thriving in spite of it and I look forward to using them for future projects.

PC Engine LT repair

Had a PC Engine LT that hadn't been powered on for the better part of 20+ years so knew it needed a recap. My usual guy had a backlog of stuff to do so would've taken months before I got it back.

Decided to go with Luke as I'd loved watching all his repair vids on social media so took the plunge with his services. Requested a repair and full recap on the website and sent it off for repair. About a week or so later, checked his socials and found out he'd uploaded a repair video for all to see. A few days after watching the video, I got the LT back - all packed well and now 100% working. Great service and the Discord Customer Service idea was brilliant in case you needed an update on your order.

Great support even when 3rd party sold product

So I purchased a retrosix product from a 3rd party and retrosix STILL assisted me in resolving the issue. The issue was the 3rd party provider sold an incompatible screen.

The replacement product was purchased from Retrosix and works perfectly as suggested.
