Luxury Pricing, Average Chocolate
I bought the “premium” matcha chocolate from Sayuri Tea and came away feeling like the whole brand is more marketing exercise than quality product.
The chocolate itself is average at best. Weak matcha flavor, overly sweet, and nowhere near the quality you would expect at £16.49 for 100g. That works out to roughly £165 per kilo, which is absurd considering the actual product experience.
The branding tries very hard to position this as luxury Japanese matcha craftsmanship, but it feels more like a generic influencer driven white label business with expensive packaging and social media aesthetics carrying the entire value proposition. Once you get past the branding, there is nothing special here.
For comparison, you can buy genuinely high quality matcha or premium artisan chocolate for significantly less. This feels aimed at people buying hype rather than substance.
