So, we’re currently on the Scenic Jasper, sailing down to… well, not where we were supposed to be.
River levels are, as expected after one of the driest periods in European history, VERY low. Some companies are cancelling cruises and itineraries are drastically changed.
Here’s where Scenic have gone wrong.
Although I can’t prove this, I believe they knew things would have to be altered many days before they told us. We had notification that the itinerary would have to be altered just 14 hrs before departure and we were offered a full refund, 25% refund if we went ahead, or 50% future cruise credit. As the proposed changes weren’t too bad, we opted to go. THEN the following day, we’re told it will be drastically changed again, and not too long after that, changed again.
We’ve been to Düsseldorf, Cologne, Rotterdam and then to Wesel (and Xanten), tomorrow is the Netherlands (again) before a 8 or 9 hour journey by bus to an airport hotel. They will give us some money to buy lunch and will (apparently) get us dinner for Monday (but no drinks).
They can’t help the weather BUT they can help what they tell people.
Trips are short, with just a walking tour, (no entrance inside any church/museum paid for).
Service on board is good, but the entertainment is woeful. One Scenic Enrich event off the ship, and then quizzes & a little recorded music played on the system in the bar. Neither of the staff (cruise director or enrichment manager) have any musical skills and no one was brought on board.
This is not a 5 star holiday. The owners should be ashamed.
Edit: the coach journey started at 7.30; we arrived at our hotel at 8pm, having had a 45 min break around 11am and a short visit to Strasbourg.
The Hyatt at Zurich airport provided a fabulous Lebanese meal and Scenic also paid for wine, beer and soft drinks during the meal.

We embarked on the Scenic Crystal on 19 May, expecting a luxury moving river cruise along the Danube. Instead, we were held stationary in Passau for three nights while Scenic stalled for time.

It was clear upon arrival that Scenic knew the river conditions well in advance—the Cruise Director even joked that we should "do a rain dance." Official Pegel river-monitoring data had flagged severe low water long before we departed. Despite knowing a full sailing was impossible, Scenic allowed passengers to embark.

For three days, we were starved of meaningful information while senior captains and executives met behind closed doors. When they finally offered us the option to abandon the ruined trip, the focus shifted entirely to quoting fine print and leaving those passengers who did not use Scenic for their travel arrangements to arrange their own transport home.

To make matters worse, Scenic hid behind Force Majeure, which, given they knew that they could not complete the voyage before it started, is questionable. They refused to refund the three days we were kept stranded in Passau—charging full luxury rates for a stationary hotel stay while they made up their minds. This was clearly a revenue retention process

Disappointing operational management and an appalling approach to customer care.

The Douro River cruise was a delight. The food was excellent and the staff so helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble.

Scenic Cruises are genuinely five star. From the transport from home to the transport back again, every need was catered for. The cruise was excellent, with very interesting included excursions in every port. The staff, Navigational, Catering and Hotel management were first class. Food was great, and worthy of a five star review.

The only downside was the number of trips starting at 9am or beforehand

Experience was good in every way. maybe too many Aussies on board. Also men wearing shorts to dinner.

Everything was very well done, staff very attentive, food wonderful. One thing I found disappointing was how small and steep were the steps. The steps on the Emerald ships were better.

Excellent service from attentive staff. Trips well organised, informative and fun.

This was our 3rd Scenic river cruise. Being all - inclusive means you don’t have to worry about a thing. Crew were fantastic. Food and drinks impeccable. Such a relaxing way to holiday. We'll be booking again for next year!

I’ve been on several Scenic cruises and not been tempted to try any other river cruise company.
Their attention to detail is second to none. The staff are amazingly good and the overall itinerary is first class.
I honestly couldn’t suggest how the cruise could be improved.

A little disappointed with the food

We always enjoy our Scenic cruises. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the excursions add to our experience. Our cruise on the Seine was no exception.

Absolutely all inclusive and great value for money. The crew on all of the cruises we have been on have been very attentive, polite and helpful. The ships are luxuriuos and the enlighten experiences are always first class

No complaints, wonderful staff/crew. This was our second cruise with Scenic, we have 3 more booked. Slight addiction I think

Very well organised. Seamless travel experience from home to ship. Driver waiting at airport to take us to hotel. We had decided to have an extra night in Bordeaux which Scenic organised for us. Bus picked us and fellow travellers up from the hotel on time for the short journey to the ship. Ship docked in a very good location in Bordeaux which made it easy to walk into the town if you wanted to.
Staff on the ship were excellent. Always smiling and willing to do anything that you asked for. It was also good to see some of the staff that we had encountered on a Rhone cruise the previous year who remembered us.
Very good choice of tours with knowledgeable tour guides. Perhaps not long enough time in some places eg Arcachon which could have sustained more than a couple of hours .
Cabins small but adequate for purpose. Only negative was the position of the in room safe which was at floor level and necessitated getting down on the floor to operate it.

The staff looked happy and there was a good culture. The food was good and wines could be better.

The evening entertainment was so la la expected better singers and things to do.

The service was excellent.
