Think very carefully before buying fromâŠ
Think very carefully before buying from SD Automotive
I deliberately waited until everything had been completely concluded before writing this review so that it reflected the final outcome rather than emotion.
I purchased a 2022 Range Rover Sport P400 from SD Automotive through MotoNovo Finance.
Within 14 days of taking delivery, faults became apparent and I exercised my legal right to reject the vehicle.
Instead of accepting the rejection promptly, the process became weeks of delays and uncertainty. I was repeatedly told that because the vehicle was on finance it could take up to 56 days to resolve, yet I was also told that if I accepted a repair it could be dealt with much more quickly. I chose to continue with my rejection because I had completely lost confidence in the vehicle.
Throughout the process I was made to feel as though I was the one in the wrong for exercising my legal rights, rather than receiving a genuine apology for selling me a vehicle that ultimately had to be rejected. The rejection was only accepted after repeated delays and stalling, with MotoNovo Finance eventually upholding my complaint and SD Automotive finally accepting the rejection.
To make matters worse, I was initially told that a deduction would be made for the approximately 600 miles I had driven before the faults occurred, despite those miles being driven before I exercised my legal right to reject the vehicle and within the first 30 days of purchase.
During the sales process I was told the vehicle had a Jaguar Land Rover manufacturer warranty until July 2027, which was a significant factor in my decision to proceed. I later discovered there were issues surrounding that representation, which caused serious concern.
I was also told that the ceramic coating was included "at no cost to yourself", yet £499 had been added to my finance agreement for that exact product.
To make matters even worse, I was sent documentation containing another customer's personal information, something I found completely unacceptable.
The rejection process left me without the use of a vehicle for weeks, caused considerable stress, inconvenience and additional expense, and ultimately forced me to obtain another vehicle while everything was being resolved.
The final outcome speaks for itself. MotoNovo Finance upheld my complaint, SD Automotive accepted responsibility, accepted the rejection, unwound the finance agreement and refunded my deposit.
Even after all of this, I still have to pursue reimbursement of the additional costs I had incurred because of the way this matter has been handled.
A good dealership isn't judged by how it behaves when a sale goes smoothly. It's judged by how it behaves when something goes wrong. In my experience, SD Automotive failed that test completely.
Based on the after sales experience, I would never buy another vehicle from SD Automotive
AVOID!!! Have had a shocking experience with this dealer.
AVOID!!! Have had a shocking experience with this dealer. We went back and forth on email for over a month and they won't stand over the problems listed below or take responsibility. Now I have to find other means to get it sorted and it's just not what you want when buying a used car. It wouldn't take much to make it right and they are just refusing to.
I was also made aware by a member of staff that I was not held at g*npoint to proceed with the sale, so therefore my requests to have a car as expected were made invalid.
- Coolant warning light appearing multiple times within hours of collection.
- Boot lid button not working.
- Service overdue by six weeks at handover.
- Mould discovered on rear seatbelts.
- The vehicle was advertised on Autotrader with Apple CarPlay. It does not have Apple CarPlay.
Can't say enough on how the entire experience was simply poor.
BEWARE of this Company/Staff - read this
I am writing this review for the benefit of future customers. Please read it carefully before purchasing from this company.
Key points:
⢠The vehicle was falsely advertised (proven).
⢠The dealership blamed AutoTrader, but AutoTrader confirmed dealerships create their own adverts.
⢠Porsche confirmed the vehicle never had several advertised features.
⢠My local garage confirmed the missing features shortly after purchase.
⢠The dealership denied responsibility despite being provided with evidence.
⢠After-sales service was dismissive and unhelpful.
⢠We attempted to resolve the matter amicably but ultimately pursued a successful Money Claim Online (MCOL) claim.
⢠This was an extremely disappointing experience, and I would not buy from this company again.
What happened?
At the end of January 2026, we arranged to view a vehicle after paying a deposit and agreeing a small discount. Their terms stated that failing to attend the viewing would result in the loss of the deposit. On the morning of our 2.5-hour journey, a salesperson messaged to say we would not be able to drive the vehicle home that day. We decided to continue with the visit regardless.
When we arrived, we test-drove the car and repeatedly asked whether it had a heated steering wheel, as advertised. After some hesitation, we were told it did not. When I showed them the advert, they dismissed it as an administrative error and blamed AutoTrader.
My wife still liked the vehicle, so I requested a discount because an important advertised feature was missing. They refused. Eventually, the owner, Steve, became involved and agreed to contribute towards an optional warranty.
Before agreeing to purchase, I asked a direct question: now that one advertised feature had been found to be missing, how could we be sure there were no others? Steve assured us that there was nothing else missing and that the vehicle had everything it should have. Based on that reassurance, we completed the paperwork and drove the car home.
A few days later, my local garage inspected the vehicle and confirmed several additional missing features (such as Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control). These are not features that could reasonably be identified during a brief test drive or visual inspection.
I then contacted AutoTrader, Porsche, and independent specialists. AutoTrader confirmed in writing that dealerships create and manage their own adverts. Porsche confirmed in writing that the vehicle left the factory without the features that had been advertised. I also obtained supporting evidence from my local garage.
I sent all of this evidence, including screenshots of the adverts, to SD Automotive by recorded delivery. Their response was dismissive and unhelpful. After further correspondence failed to resolve the matter, I sought advice and escalated the dispute through the small claims process.
The company eventually responded and the matter entered formal negotiations. They instructed London solicitors to represent them (!) while I represented myself. A settlement was ultimately reached, and I successfully recovered part of my losses.
For me, this was never purely about money. It was about accountability. Customers spending tens of thousands of pounds on a vehicle should be able to rely on the accuracy of the information provided by the seller.
Other relevant issues (demonstrating failed promises) during the transaction included:
⢠A vehicle that was promised to be "fully charged" being handed over at approximately 75%.
⢠An agreed "all-in" price later being supplemented with preparation fees.
⢠A dismissive "take it or leave it" attitude when concerns were raised.
⢠Poor communication and a lack of responsibility when errors were identified.
I appreciate that some customers may have had positive experiences with this dealership.
Unfortunately, that was not our experience. Our experience highlighted that SD Automotive is a company without class, integrity, care and respect.
My advice to anyone considering a purchase is simple: carry out thorough independent checks on the vehicle and be prepared to challenge any discrepancies before completing the sale.
I wish I had read reviews like this before purchasing!
Hopefully this review helps someone else avoid the same experience.
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DEALER!!
I've had an awful experience with this dealer. I bought a Volvo V60 and initially, communication was fine when they wanted my money.
I had the car delivered and managed to drive it for a whole 9 days before it broke down with a suspected electrical fault.
Attempted to contact the dealer on the day, with no response. I tried multiple methods of communication over the next few weeks with no answer to any of my phone calls or messages. Within these messages, I had requested a full refund and was met with, again, no reply.
It got to the point where I raised a case with Citizens Advice for their breach of the Consumer Rights Act as I had requested the refund within 30 days of the purchase of the vehicle. The aim is to now escalate to Trading Standards.
If I could give 0/5 stars, I would.

fantastic experience with SD Automotive
I had a fantastic experience SD Atomotive, very friendly and professional staff. Robin was my salesman and he went above and beyond. Not pushy, the cars were priced correctly. I went through most things remotely due to the distance but had no doubts this was a good company to purchase from. Thanks guys

AVOID!!
Just to back up other reviews saying how bad this company is.
Arrogant staff. You will be charged over £600 if you don't use their finance company.
If you are lucky enough to pick a good working order car, you wont see the real SD motors. If you have any issues, expect no customer service at all. Even when after a year of the finance company getting independent assessors out who reported the car was faulty at sale, they did everything to delay the inevitable and left my son with no car for a year, struggling as couldn't get another car until it was all settled. One of the worst years for us as a family. So stressful. Never use an independent car dealership and dont touch SD motors with a barge pole!
The blind leading the blind
Right⊠strap in because this oneâs a good one ð
If youâve ever wondered what itâs like to buy a car from a dealership that treats basic safety like an optional extra⊠look no further.
I was told the car had been âfully checkedâ, âall sortedâ, âready to drive awayâ. What I actually got was a vehicle that felt like it had passed its inspection via vibes alone. Iâm convinced the âinspectionâ was just someone kicking the tyre and saying âyeah thatâll doâ.
Within minutes I knew something wasnât right. The car was making noises Iâve only ever heard in horror films. At one point I genuinely considered apologising to it before starting the engine.
And somehow⊠SOMEHOW⊠this thing was allowed back on the road?? Iâve seen safer dodgems at the fair.
When I raised the issues, instead of taking responsibility it was all âwe can repair itâ. Oh brilliant, so sell me a broken car first and then act surprised when I notice?? Whatâs next, selling umbrellas with holes in and offering tape after it rains?
Communication was a whole experience on its own. Replies came and went like a situationship. One minute theyâre there, next minute⊠gone. Iâve had more consistent updates from delivery drivers.
At this point I trust weather forecasts more than anything I was told here.
Overall, an absolute circus. The only thing missing was a clown car⊠which, to be fair, might actually have been safer.
Would I recommend? Only if you enjoy stress, disappointment, and living life on hard mode.
0/10. would rather walk.
Avoid SD Automotive.
Avoid SD Automotive.
I donât usually write reviews, but my experience here was serious enough that I feel I need to warn others. I have full evidence (photos, videos, and written communication) to support everything below.
I originally visited to view a different car, and staff joked that they had âprofiledâ me as someone coming for another vehicle. While meant as banter, it didnât give a great first impression. I explained Iâd had bad past experiences with dealerships and was reassured they were different, so I went ahead in good faith.
The sale was delayed by a week so repairs could be completed. I was told an oil leak (rear main seal) would be fixed and Iâd receive an invoice as proof. I never received this, despite asking.
I was also told the oil would be topped up. Shortly after purchase, a mechanic checked the car and there was no oil on the dipstick. Only around 2 litres came out of an engine that should hold nearly 5 litres. The oil leak also hadnât been fixed.
I later found out this repair is actually a major job, not âroutine maintenanceâ as described. This raised serious concerns that the issue had been misrepresented.
More concerning was safety â one wheel was missing a nut and others were only hand-tight. This could have caused a serious accident.
When I raised these issues, I was told to return the car to the same garage that had already missed these faults. I had no confidence in this and started a formal rejection through MotoNovo Finance.
Even with experience of consumer rights, the process was difficult and drawn out. I was told I couldnât reject the car, asked to drive an unsafe vehicle, and there were clear delays.
An independent inspection later confirmed there was no evidence the repair had been done, along with engine faults during testing.
The process took months. The car was off the road (SORN) the entire time, causing disruption, extra costs, and stress. This also impacted my partnerâs health needs as we rely heavily on having a vehicle.
The rejection has now been accepted, but it should never have got to this point.
Based on my experience, Iâd strongly advise anyone considering SD Automotive to proceed with extreme caution and independently check any work claimed to have been carried out.
Excellent service
Fantastic experience from start to finish not pushy car was immaculate thanks guys
Avoid at all costa
If I could rate this lower, trust me I would.
Bought a 25k car from this dealership with issues right away, went to 2 independent garages to get a quote to get it fixed, both refused to touch it. Same, the owner of SD Vehicles insisted that these garages were poor and that heâll do the work and it will be âcheap and easyâ currently theyâve had the car for 6 weeks, spent 4k+ at BMW, theyâve failed to deliver the car on the last 4 attempts stating âitâs fixedâ then itâs broken again. Then replaced discs which were perfectly fine when they left me so I assume theyâve treated themselves to some burnouts.
I canât stress this enough, if you value your sanity and money. Do not deal with SD Vehicles.
In my personal experience
In my personal experience, this dealership has been nothing short of a nightmare.
If you value your money, your sanity, or even basic honesty â DO NOT buy a car from these people.
In my opinion, they come across as dishonest, untrustworthy, and absolutely not fit to be selling cars to the public.
Just look at their Trustpilot page⊠I wish I had before handing over my money.
I bought a BMW X5 from them just around a month ago and the problems started almost immediately:
⢠Engine light on within days
⢠Gave the car back â they kept it two weeks
⢠Returned it to me with NOTHING fixed
⢠Now the transfer box has issues
⢠And the car is pouring out coolant
For a vehicle of this price, this is beyond unacceptable.
I will be contacting the Motor Ombudsman and I will be taking this to Small Claims Court.
If they think for one second theyâre getting away with this, they can think again.
And just so theyâre aware: this entire experience will be going across my social media platforms, where I have hundreds of thousands of followers. People deserve to know exactly what kind of service I received.
Based on my experience, this dealership has shown me zero accountability, zero professionalism, and zero integrity.
Buy from them at your own risk â I certainly wonât make that mistake again.
Brent at SD automotive
Just bought a car from Brent at SD Automotive.
He gave me an honest description of the car over the phone .
He had a no pressure sales approach.
A fair price was given on my part exchange .
The car was well prepped for me nice and clean inside and out .
Good all round experience.
Would give zero if I could.
Would give zero if I could.
Dishonest. Over priced. Sold car with clear MOT BUT TOTALY PERISHED UN SAFE TYRES.
Serviced and oil changed with degraded oil. Claimed DPF replaced but unable to provide evidence. Said only had car 1-2month/ part exchange yet paperwork clear they had it 16mths prev, prev owner returned it within 2 weeks. Denied all knowledge.
Refused repair. Not road worthy unsafe car with DPF affecting performance and drivability of car therefore unsafe on even motorway as unable to maintain or achieve speed. Warning lights on before left dealership fobbed off, more warning lights and flat tyres by time reached motorway couple miles down road.
2nd and 3rd owners returned car within under 3 weeks with numerous diagnostic faults and DPF warnings.
Full refund received.
Didnât do as promised repeatedly- key batteries despite numerous reminders still not ready 2 weeks later. Overpayment refund still not actioned over 2 weeks later despite saying had been. Engine fluids not topped up, coolant below minimum.
Staff dishonest and rude. Tried to make garage and customer out to be liars despite having heard recorded phone call conversations disproving what this dealership claimed.
List goes on.
Auto trader reviews appear to be filtered.
Avoid at all cost.
Sadly didnât see the honest real reviews till after my terrible experience.
Oh and refused to have the car repaired locally despite not being road worthy or safe to drive. Had to seek independent diagnostic and legal advice.
In professional
Wanted a non refundable deposit to even view the vehicle.
Rude on phone, hung up phone.
So many discrepancies. Paperwork rushed through on otherside desk so couldnât see/ read properly.
We bought a BMW x3 m40i from thisâŠ
We bought a BMW x3 m40i from this company in January of this year. On the website the car looked great and on the face of it the company seemed to look an ok place to buy a carâŠâŠ. However
First off, no standard 3mth warranty nor fresh 12 months mot here. They expect you to take out their 3rd partys warranty.
Numerous issues highlighted via a BMW health check after we had bought the car following a service. These issues were brought to our attention by BMW themselves despite us paying a £169 prep fee to Sd automotive. This prep fee it isnât worth the paper itâs written on. Issues we had were actually reported on the prep form yet Sd automotive had not addressed these at all and we were not made aware at the time of purchase. The prep fee form was even dated 3mths prior to us buying the car?? yet still advertised the car for sale.
All paperwork on sale was rushed through and wasnât explained at all. Very unprofessional salesman, David.
The most worrying fault was a very dangerous bodged run flat tyre repair in the inner side wall that could have blown out at any time.
Sd automotive refused to allow us to get the car repaired locally to us even though we live over 200 miles from the dealership. We could not return the car to them that due to the risk from the rear tyre. We obtained fair estimates to repair the car locally but they were having none of it. Very unhelpful.
No inc warranty, car sold with only few months mot left. Aftercare shocking! Seems they want dealership prices but you get a private sale service. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!
DO NOT BUY THEIR WARRANTY
I first wrote a review about the smooth purchase of the Peugeot 3008, spot in in fact and the sales staff very good! However a couple of weeks in and the car has a noise from the wheel and the heating fails on one side! Emailed them! USE YOUR WARRANTY! A warranty you have to pay for the labour on! And a warranty they sold for £600+ and itâs meant to have a 28 day warranty by themselves! I noticed also how theyâre proactive responding to emails when purchasing a car! Not so much when the car leaves the forecourt! Now the interesting bit! The car was written off! Iâve zero need for a warranty that has 18 months left to run! Several emails sent and eventually get a reply NO REFUND! So my advice? Make sure the car is sound! And secondly DO NOT GET SUCKED IN BY THE WARRANTY THEY SELL! Obviously very highly commission based! And I will now be seeking legal advice! Great at sales but their aftercare is SHIT
Abysmal.
Abysmal.
Purchased a Mercedes GLC from SD automotive. They charged over £500 for admin fee and then handed the car over with a flat battery, empty AdBlue tank, 12 miles of fuel range.
They had to discount the car in order for me to get paint repaired where they had done a shocking job of touching in. Even this was a problem as during negotiations, the owner tried low balling saying the repairs would be less than half what we finally agreed to. This was after shouting, insulting me and yelling at his own staff to cancel the deal. He changed his mind and demeanor when I stated I would get 3 quotes via phone and provide an average price.
On the 3+ hour drive home then AdBlue warning light came on shortly followed by the engine warning light. I filled the tank with 5 drums of AdBlue with no change.
Contacted the dealer regarding this and they've been less than helpful with initial delayed responses despite the fault happening within hours of the sale . The company now expects me to drive 3+ hours in a faulty car with an engine warning light, leave the car with them, make my own way home, then do a return trip to collect once it's resolved at my own cost. Which is insanity after selling me a faulty vehicle that I've paid the tax/insurance and AdBlue on. Surely it would be cheaper and simpler for all involved to just approve the vehicle to be repaired by a approved garage local to me. They were not willing to even entertain this idea.
Despite being told responses were delayed due to having to discuss with the owner, until yesterday evening, apparently the owner is now away and uncontactable until the middle of next week. Likely preparing himself to shout at customers again.
I would strongly advise anyone against using SD Automotive as I am now having to unwind the deal and likely pursue this through legal avenues.
