Lonely Planet books have become unusable
I have stopped buying Lonely Planet guides as they have become unusable, but I still sometimes get them out of the library. They have stopped being usable and reliable information, and become a mass of trendy nonsense. In some guides headings have been replaced by 'Great wildlife' or something mundane, with the title of the site hidden away somewhere in the text. Decent information seems to have been largely stripped out of the guides, and where it is in, it is hard to find. I am just looking at a US guide where the tab is helpfully entitled 'The Guide', just in case you didn't realise that it was a guide book! The Costa Rica guide had a double page on delights of Costa Rica, and forgot to mention anything about wildlife - but that is what everyone knows Costa Rica for! I just don't know how people use these any more, which is really sad as for years they were my go to guide.
