I have never been comfortable with browser monitoring apps. Smoothwall is the perfect example of this, since if you search whatever is "bad" in the systems eyes they'll screenshot and send it to whoever is controlling it in your house or in school, and would lead to a awkward conversation. Human moderators are just too much better then automatic ones

It blocks everything , even google ai mode and it blocks educational things so i can't do my work

This software absolutely cripples some laptops and when raising the issue with Smoothwall during a webinar no support was provided.

An affected device is a brand new Lenovo Intel Core 7 240H with 32GB of RAM that can easily take 30-60 mins after booting up to be usable and the device will be red hot with fans at 100% and battery life at about 1.5 hours.

Even after being usable, it will keep stalling where the start menu fails to open or Edge either fails to open or just sits there with a white screen, Outlook sticks on opening, pressing reply to an email takes about a minute to load the reply part and other software takes a few minutes to open.

I thought it was a batch of faulty hard drives to start with but CrystalDiskMark returned normal stats.
If you uninstall the Smoothwall client then the device behaves as expected, it runs cool and battery life is much better.

We have just upgraded the firewall to Maiden 36 today which was supposed to offer a 30% improvement in performance.
It seems to have had no impact on this issue.

Based on the experience I have had, avoid this software and look for something better that does not negatively impact teaching and learning and productivity.

Prevented me from turning it off after I installed it and then locked a bunch of settings I use. I can't even run VS code to run a program on google for a class assignment.

It probably is also spyware.

smoothwall is horrenedous and i dont like it , it limits indivuality between students and doesnt allow people to do anything , the school imprisons us with smoothwall

this is equivalent to having a perfect life while being spoiled a little bit, with a loving family and friends, you are free to do what you want to do. Then the stinky, sweaty, hoeless, sad teachers who think "hm what can we do to make the lives of people incredibly insufferable ...OH YES THAT'S IT! we'll brutally mol then lester them by shoving this solution in their lives! perfect, absolute geniuses we are!" my life has now been turned into a dystopian, communist, state run life, every search is monitored, this is equivalent to living in stalin's USSR, i now live in constant fear, and i fear that i may be watched as we speak, im from the school mascalls for anyone reading this, may this be a waring and i hope for you to be safe from this world, i may be taken away after this but i must spread the warning, keep your heads down, dont get caught and maybe, maybe you wont end up like us-from mascalls student

This is genuinly pmo. I just wanted to play a simple crossword puzzle because there's nothing bad about a crossword puzzle Right? If anything, it's good for you to do because it makes you think. Well this dumn ahh websight decided as im mid crossword puzzle that its not allowed anymore and the blocked screen pops up. Im a highschooler let me do a freaking crossword. I understand its soposed to block things so kids do there work but its the last three days of school. Let me do the crossword!

As Racato, I have really bad experiences with this, including the band of Google documents and all it demands as well as Google accounts sign in. They also specifically banned the Wikipedia website for Jay-Z but back then I remember when they used to ban the entire Wikipedia. Also by some other reviews it’s apparently a key logger, and I have also seen that takes pictures of your screen. This, paired with Apple Classroom, is full spyware, and should have been banned via COPPA, but don’t worry it’s COPPA approved! That means it’s ethical spyware for kids! It’s like little tikes my first spyware!

I'm 13 and could come up with a better school filter agent while complying with the rules of COPPA. This site keylogs every goddamn key I press. and Lord help me this site drove me insane. I typed in something I thought was funny and backspaced it, little did I know I went to the office 30 minutes later. This app is a keylogger. It breaks the Children's Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in every way. BAN THIS SITE NOW.
