Positive - they put me in touch with a health coach who has been a great help to me. A really empathetic helpful individual.
Negative - the tone of the organisation is messaniac. The founder is treated like a demigod - a demigod who is quite happy to get on the phone, ask intrusive personal questions and literally demand your credit card details right now. My contract has expired but they are continuing to take payment. Iâm struggling to cancel - the accounts department has not responded to my enquiries.
Also, the recipes arenât great.

As soon as I joined I had so much support, personal coach, mindset coach, FB groups, daily live sessions and a food plan specific to me! They were all about me, nothing like I was used to.
Yes I was nervous, Iâd never put myself first so this was alien to me but Iâm so glad I did!
Alex Neilan, a professional sports dietitian, and founder of Sustainable Change, called me. He is so lovely but most of all makes sense with what he says, and he truly believes in this journey to make changes for life and really made me believe Iâm worth it.

Make that initial contact
After submitting my initial query I was contacted by Alex soon after. After talking the concerns I had about my weight I quickly learnt that this program is not a âone size fits allâ.
Once you sign up you are offered so much support from a multidisciplinary team of experts. One of those is a coach who will help you with meal plans, exercise as well as referring you onto other support such as mindset coaches and physiotherapist.
There are daily live meeting which discuss informative topics to support your journey. As well as expert meetings in a vast range of topics.
On social media you can join groups which are non judgemental and you can always reach out for advice, pass on little tips you have learnt and have helped.
Whilst being on this program, not only have I lost weight and continue to do so, I have learnt more about myself as well as educating future generations in healthy eating.
If like me and many other women, you have tried other programs I can assure you this is different. It does not only help you with your weight loss but you as a whole.

Following an accident that restricted my movement and the menopause my weight had crept up and Iâd become really unfit. And I was getting worse - now my knees were starting to give up as Iâd not only gained weight but Iâd also lost muscle mass!
Alex Neilanâs phrase - âchoose your health or you choose illnessâreally resonated with me. I didnât want to spend the last third of my life unwell and disabled. I want to be an active and fun grandmother and never a burden to my children.
I didnât want a fad diet and didnât only want to lose weight. I knew I needed to be stronger and was aware that many restrictive diets are not only unsustainable but also speed up muscle loss. So I did my homework and thatâs when I discovered the fantastic multi-disciplinary team that Alexâs programme offered.
Sustainable Change isnât simply about weight loss and improved physical strength - itâs also about Mindset. Iâve learnt so much more than just losing weight, Iâve developed a much better and more resilient mindset. I am still on a journey to full health but Iâm already seeing the benefits with my knee pain 90% better and really enjoying walking my Labradors for the first time in years.

Being Myself Again
Like many people Covid and lockdown really knocked me, I came out of it 30lbs heavier and resigned to being forever changed for the worse. I wasnât able to be as active, I was known as a high energy person but wasnât feeling that way, I was outgoing and had a real zest for life and adventure and was suddenly struggling to get out of bed. I wasnât me anymore! It took me quite a while to be ready to deal with it and make a change. The shift happened when I realized a lot of my low mood and low energy levels were peri-menopause (and the added weight)! Amazingly this gave me hope, there was a reason everything felt terrible and I didnât feel like me anymore!!! But I had done lots of different âdietâ programs and none of them gave me sustainable results, they didnât have enough support, I didnât learn enough, and I didnât ultimately make lasting changes to my behaviour. So, I went in search of something better and very thankfully found Sustainable Change and Alex the Sport Dietician. Before even speaking to him I was really encouraged by the community I could see and the way people supported each other. Then our chat started with the three reasons why I wanted to do this NOW. That was so powerful, and Alex really pushed to make them specific and important and in that moment I moved from WANTING to make a change to feeling a real NEED and DRIVE to make a change! And here I am 1 year later, extending my membership as I have absolutely found the community and program that delivers on Sustainable and Lasting Change! It is not easy!!! You have to put in the work!! But it is simple!! Clear things to do, looking at holistic habits and your day. What changes to make to eating, what changes to make in exercise, what changes to make in mindset, how to truly put yourself first!!! My coach David has been amazing, very supportive and helpful giving genuinely impactful advice! I am the Purpose! Say that out loud to yourself!!! I am the Purpose!! Of all the reasons and things to consider that has been the most lasting, I donât need to justify any of this, doing the right things for me are all that matters. I have lost that weight, gone from a size 16 to a size 10, and even more importantly Iâm running again, Iâm back to the gym, Iâm getting out of the bed in the morning with a zest for life (most of the time). And on the days I struggle I just message David and he helps me through. Keeping the little rituals that make life worth living, not having to never again eat carbs, but being extra good for a few days before a big night out! It has all meant true changes in my behaviour and my thinking. Did I still put a few pounds back on over Christmas, OF COURSE! But I donât beat myself up, I refocus and plan and in a few weeks they are off again. This is not the end of my journey, in some ways I still feel in the early stages of self development and genuine progress. It is hard to change a mindset you have had for over 40 years! So I continue to learn every day, to celebrate every win, to pick myself up from any wobble and put one foot in front of the other, to share my stories with the community to get and give support to others, and always know I am the purpose. As I head into this year not only with am I the purpose but Iâm chasing joy even more. I want to move from being âback to myselfâ to being my best and happiest self. Doing Joy on Purpose! I know with this community, my coach David, Alex and the rest of the team I have the support, the tools, and the genuine care I need to continue on this journey and thrive!

Good Morning I found Alex to be patient ,empathetic and understanding and even after doing the questionnaire with him and coming to book a slot for a chat we got to the finacle side and I sadly apologised for wasting his time and that right now I wasn't in a position to afford it and thought that's that..he then texted to give me free acsess to online classes and then sent me links to various food guides etc!
I genuinely from the beginning felt he wanted to help and he was sincere but I was shocked at the after care and warmth.

I came across this page on Facebook during one of my many nights of not sleeping and I thought.. just do it.. I was contacted pretty quickly by THE most loveliest kind man who took his time to find out about my life at the moment. Although this was about weight loss, I also have many other things going on which we spoke about. When I realised I couldnât afford the monthly payment my heart literally sunk because all what was listed was worth every penny. I apologised for what I thought was wasting his time and this lovely man sent me a link to join a live every morning.. and also a link for a course.. both totally FREE.. I cannot stress enough that just speaking to someone who actually listens and to be given these FREE links has boosted me and made me realise that⊠I can do this.. not only the weight.. but other issues too.. I can say that I have very happily been kicked up the bum and Iâm looking forward to getting plans in place for my future. I would highly recommend that if anyway possible you are able to do these paid courses.. please do not hesitate because I would of 100% jumped on that if it was at all possible for me⊠but I will get there ðª

A plan for the whole you, not just another diet!
Clicked on this page on Facebook to look into it helping me lose weight and fell better about myself. I got a personal response straight away. Alex texted me and we had a little of back and forth communication. He suggested setting up a phone call meeting, but I wasn't sure about that, also perhaps thinking there's a catch. I was a little suspicious and thought I'd hear nothing further.
How wrong was I!
Alex understood my fears and sent me a couple of emails, plus gave me access to his members group. FREE!
The group has so many helpful resources to not only give you diet plans, which are filled with tasty choices made from everyday food items, but also deals with exercise and your mindset. This is where many diets fail, as they don't deal with the mental side of healthy living. Simple things like 'smile when you cook' . Try it, it does make a difference.
I have begone the food side of this plan this morning (with a smile) and started the work on my mental health changes 3 days ago.
I feel so much better already, 3 lbs lighter already and this is all free!
Cannot recommend this enough!

Before joining sustainable change I had reached such a low point in my life with my weight. I have always struggled and emotional eating was my default setting to cope with anything and everything. Then I would drown my sorrows with wine, eat more rubbish, loathe myself, and carry on with life with a mask on so that anyone around me would think I was fine. I have been in a self-destructive cycle for years. I have been on all the diets that are out there over and over again: slimming world, Scottish slimmer's, weight watchers, keto, fasting, and even a âhospital dietâ in desperate times, designed for sedentary patients with about 400kcals a day - it made me feel awful which is no surprise - but I didnât care, as long as it worked and I lost weight. I was desperate to be a ânormalâ size and only ever achieved it for a short while before the old habits kicked back in and I put weight back on. Iâm 53 now and I can only imagine how many hours, days, weeks and months of my life I have lost to obsessing and thinking about food, fat and weight. The amount of mental space it took up has been debilitating.
For the last couple of years I tried to accept that my size is just what Iâm meant to be and that I could only lose the weight if I starved myself. I was thoroughly depressed that this was my future. It was stopping me from looking forward to anything. I believed the things we hear about your body having a natural weight and it settles back to that.
But then I happened across one of Alex Neilan's YouTube videos and it peaked my interest. A Sustainable way to lose weight! Ignore all the fad diets out there; they have been failing you! We can teach you to understand the nutrition you need! And all specifically aimed at women my age. I was curious and I reached out, and then took fright and retreated for a few months. Then out of the blue Alex, from Sustainable Change messaged me. One of his values is to never give up on people and I had reached an all-time low, so I leant in and listened, and I am so glad I did.
I am a different person after a relatively short space of time. Not only have I shed two and a half stone but I have a whole new perspective on life. I have a tailored food plan that I stick to which really helps as it takes away the decision-making. I have a tailored workout plan that I am loving - it is challenging but builds up over time so very doable. I have a wonderful coach who is there whenever I need them but one of the key elements is that they make me accountable for my actions and progress - something a friend or family member could never do. There are multi-disciplinary qualified experts on tap for any questions - the education is incredible, I am learning so much about why it is important to fuel your body in the right way, and strengthen it in the right way - especially for a woman my age. There is so much information on all the whys behind what we should do to look after ourselves and they are delivered in bite size chunks at your own pace so are totally digestible. And I have the support of all the other members. This is fundamental as you can voice your story and struggles and there is immediate understanding as they have all been there in some shape or form.
There is a huge focus on the weekly wins you achieve that are not weight loss. In only 12 weeks, some of mine are:

If you are unsure, hand on heart just do it now. It is the best investment in myself I have ever made. I have spent thousands over the years on fad diets and new clothes to try and make my shape look better, and let's not add up all the booze and take-aways and junk food.
There is no good time to improve your health and wellbeing other than right now. Trust that there is an amazing group of specialists to ensure you will succeed if you just keep showing up and trying every day , and a supportive group of people who understand more than you realise and are here for you every step of the way.
I had to make a decision to start putting myself first. My children and husband were suffering due to my depression and mood swings. They deserve to have the best Mum and wife possible and I can only be that if I am happy in myself. Sustainable Change is the lifeline I needed and I am grateful every day to Alex Neilan and his team for not giving up on me.
