I wanted this to be really good although all switchd are interested in is telling you how many cups of coffee you can buy with your energy bill savings. For some reason this takes priority over what I would see as the more important information I want to know about from my energy broker.

They do not take the pain out of switching, on the contrary, they add a layer of complexity and with the exception of identifying a cheaper provider you still end up doing all the leg work.

My time spent pulling my hair out with Switchd exceeds the benefit of the number of cups of coffee they tell me I can now afford!

Switchd have saved me hundreds of pounds over the last couple of years and I trust them to help navigate these "interesting" times with suppliers going bust and prices rising etc.

Recent experiences with Switcd

Got caught up in the backlashof the huge trade gap in gas prices and Avro went bust. Given an account by the government with Octopus and heard nothing since. Not being very savvy with all of the tech am unable to decide if I made the right decision.

Very good at finding the best deals

Very good at finding the best deals to save money and also useful how you can adjust your dashboard to suit your requirements. Have knocked one star off as being a lite customer can only contact by e-mail which is fine except at times they do not read your e-mail properly and send a reply either not answering your question or not doing what you requested. As a rule do not have to contact so not too much of a problem

I have been sent e-mails which were…

I have been sent e-mails which were totally wrong, given wrong information, been told that if I was with another provider I would have saved more money and been charged a DD three times for the same month by three different suppliers. This is a very poor service. On the positive side, I have been paying a competitive price.

We are, however, sorry to hear that you have been receiving confusing emails. Switchd use an automated forwarding system where emails from your energy suppliers will automatically be sent to you. This is so you do not miss any important communications from them.

We can see that you were in the process of being switched from Green to Avro Energy when both energy suppliers stopped trading in September. So, you would have received more emails than usual from both of them. We can also see Shell Energy (who are taking over all of Green’s customers) sent you some emails by mistake informing you that they would be taking over. So we can understand why you would be confused!

We can see that you have been speaking our Customer Experience team via to clarify who your new supplier is and also to answer your queries about being charged by your old and new supplier. Please rest assured that thanks to OFGEM, any credit balances will be protected.

We will continue to help you with your queries via email!

Great business, best product

Great business. Really simple to use product. Since I first signed up several years ago I’ve not given my energy provider a single thought, as I know that Switchd has everything under control. Customer service has been very responsive on the 1 occasion I needed to contact them (re a complicated house move).

Willing to help by automation only

I was informed the company they put me with was Green when they went under they moved me to Octopus and to send them my last meter readings, I did . Then 3 days later they moved me to another company but being 74 I didn’t understand the actions they asked me to do
I have sent over 10 emails that have only been answered by automated reply
I cannot find a telephone number for help and suffering with illness I am finding it very upsetting

We can see that you sent in several emails on Friday and Saturday which our Customer Experience team responded to on Saturday. We hope we were able to answer all your questions! We had also provided a phone number for you to call if you would prefer to speak on the phone.

We do have an answer bot that automatically suggests useful articles for our customer to read. Many of our customers find these really useful as they can get their answer straight away rather than having to wait 1 working day for us to get back to them. But of course, we will always respond to queries regardless!

I was with a large energy company but…

I was with a large energy company but as Switchd was backed by my bank Nationwide I decided to trust them and switch energy supplier.

It turns out that the checks run by Switchd on energy providers does not include financial due diligence on whether they gamble on the price of gas / electricity by not hedging their exposure to fluctuating wholesale prices.

As a result of this, my new energy supplier Green Energy has gone bust and I am now going to have to pay a lot more than if I had stayed on my old energy company’s fixed tariff.

The company has also had the cheek to debit my account with 6 months membership fee for the privilege and have not refunded it despite me cancelling my account.

At Switchd, we undertake due diligence for every single supplier we switch our customers to. Part of this due diligence is ensuring that they are approved by OFGEM, the government energy regulator, which Green was. As you may have heard on the news, the energy market is going through very difficult times and so, inevitably, some of the small to medium sized energy companies have ceased trading.

It is very unfortunate, however, all Switchd members affected can rely on us to provide support and regular updates on the situation! They can rest assured know that their energy supply will continue uninterrupted, that credit balances will be protected and that we will put them on the best deal as soon as it is possible.

We can see that our Customer Service Team wrote to you on the 28th September confirming that a refund for the remainder of your subscription was being processed which you should have received by now.

Unique idea to keep searching for…

Unique idea to keep searching for better deal without spending time. Set the preferences and get going. It switched to cheaper deals automatically three times saving about 120£ in 12 months.

Handling the energy crisis like professionals.

I've been with switchd a few months now, and gotta give credit where credit is due. Switchd are taking this whole energy crisis in their stride.

I joined in May and they switched me to green. Was quick and easy.

On the 21st of September, Switchd emailed me to say that a number of energy suppliers have gone bust, and it is likely more will follow. They explained what would happen if my supplier did go bust, that my electricity supply would continue, and that all I should do is take a meter reading.

On the 22nd of September, Switchd emailed me to say that my supplier had gone bust, reiterated the above, reminding me to take a meter reading and that there's nothing else I need to do.

On the 23rd September, today, Green Energy contacted me to let me know they'd gone bust.

Well done switchd for how you're handling this. Smooth :)

Avoid!!!!!! Use a comparison website instead!

Basically I joined this service in January, everything was ok for a while and then they switched my energy supplier (say they didn’t and that it was an erroneous transfer). So I got charged a huge early exit fee by Green who I actually would’ve stayed with as a supplier to then call up switchd who said it should take up to 6 weeks this was early June! Then email after email from them saying they were struggling to get hold of Green and would keep trying - this is with me chasing for an update.
Then I called this afternoon, was told that I should call both energy suppliers MYSELF and they were sorry I had not been told that at the start!! What the hell is this service for then??!?? Easier switching myself! AVOID I will not stop complaining until I get all my money back

We are sorry to hear that your energy supplies were taken over by a new energy supplier for unknown reasons.

Having investigated your Switchd account and correspondence between yourself and Switchd, we can confirm that we did not instruct a switch for your property to a new supplier in June 2021. We switched you to a great deal on the 14th January 2021 and We have NOT since instructed a switch for your property as there is no better deal on the market right now.

These type of things happen but there is no need to worry as there is a set procedure for it to be corrected. Although us at Switchd are not responsible for this new energy transfer, we are of course always happy to help resolve the issue! This is why we had contacted the original supplier on your behalf to inform them of this issue and who have confirmed they are working to correct it.

The reason we have advised you to call both suppliers is because this is the fastest way to have this resolved. Due to energy supplier’s strict customer data protection policy, they will speak only directly with the account holder. Apologies if that information was not communicated clearly enough.

Once the supplies are returned to the correct supplier, it would be as if you have never left them and any exit fees charged will be refunded.

Our Customer Experience team has contacted you to discuss this in more detail and we hope to soon reach a positive resolution!

My first switch was to a company that…

My first switch was to a company that has ceased trading the day before I was switched… never the less the company managed to take £184 from my bank account the morning of the switch. What’s more my previous supplier will not refund me the £284 credit I am owed until the new company validates the meter reading. I am £400 out of pocket and the only thing SwitchD have said is that it’s not their fault… they do however acknowledged that they were made aware the day before my switch??? Why weren’t customers given the heads up. As soon as I move to a new company I want out of this farce! I have managed independently every year to secure the best tariff with minimal issue. I am rather alarmed at the amount of feedback below about it being extremely difficult to break free of this company! I look forward to their tone death response suggesting that they are blameless!

We are sorry that the supplier we switched you to has ceased trading. As you may have heard on the news, the energy market is going through very difficult times and so, unfortunately, some of the small to medium sized energy companies have ceased trading. We know that when this happens it can be confusing but our Switchd members can rest assured that we will continue to provide support, monitor the situation closely, provide regular updates and ensuring they are on the best deals possible.

It is important to us that the switching process is as clear as possible to our customers. That is why, on the same day that your supplier announced they were no longer trading, we sent an email to all our affected customers about the news and what the next steps would be. Did you not receive that?

We understand your confusion in regards to why the switch was completed the day after your supplier ceased trading. In an ideal world one would be able to complete a switch from one suppler to the next in a few days and cancel whenever they like. However, it is actually a 21-day process and once 14 days have passed, that switch cannot be cancelled. Not by the original supplier, nor by the new supplier, even if the new supplier has stopped trading. This is why the switch was still completed, as when the supplier ceased trading the switch was 1 day away from being complete.

In addition, sometimes when a supplier stops trading, they do not cancel the direct debit that has been set up. Which would explain why the new supplier took £184. We can appreciate that this is really inconvenient. The good news is that any credit balance owed by the supplier who has gone bust will be protected thanks to OFGEM, the government energy regulator. OFGEM have appointed a new supplier to take over your energy account and that charge will go towards them now supplying your energy. Once the transfer is complete they will be able to provide your old supplier with final meter readings so you can get your refund from your old supplier.

All of our Switchd members are free to cancel their subscription any time they want- there are no conditions to leaving! There was a technical issue that prevented some customers cancelling the account themselves online, however that was fixed on the same day that it was brought to our attention.

We can see that you are in conversation with our Customer Experience team, where we aim to answer all your queries to your satisfaction.

Switchd have lost me money and are…

Switchd have lost me money and are impossible to get hold of.

Terrible operations management - I joined and then asked not to be switched. The team said they put my account on pause, However, I was indeed switched to a new supplier. When I contacted the team, they said they had made a mistake and not put my account on hold. They also switched me to a more expensive tariff than previously.

I have sent multiple emails trying to get in touch, none of which have been opened.

Further, the company they switched me to has now gone into administration.

We are truly sorry that your energy supplier has ceased to trade. The energy market at the moment is volatile and you cannot predict which companies will last and which ones will fail. Not to worry though, we are monitoring the situation with suppliers who have ceased to trade and keeping our customers updated on next steps. Most importantly, they are aware that the energy supply will continue uninterrupted and any credit balances will be kept safe by OFGEM.
It is likely, that although the new deal we have switched you to is more expensive than your last, it was still the cheapest deal that was available. Due to the recent sharp price increases in the energy market, the current deals are not as cheap as the deals available last year. We can look into this for you and confirm.

Our customers being able to get in touch with us is extremely important to us at Switchd, so we are surprised and sorry to hear that your emails have not been responded to. We are unable to find any recent emails that have not been responded to from “Fiona”. Please can you send an email to team@switchd.co.uk with the subject “Complaint”, and your account information and we will make sure to look into your query as a priority.

We will also be able to look into your query that your energy was switched when you had asked for your account to be paused, which we apologise for. We will be able to see if this was human error or something to do with our system.
