â 1-Star Review
â 1-Star Review â Mislabelled Product & Poor Handling of Consumer Rights
I visited Sydney Tools to purchase an oil pressure testing kit. I was greeted at the door by a staff member who walked me through the store and personally selected the kit for me, based on my clear request for an oil pressure tester.
When I arrived home and opened the kit, I discovered it was not an oil pressure kit at all, but a fuel pressure testing kitâdespite the front label stating:
âDaytona D1009 â 45pce Oil Combustion Pressure Meter & Testing Kitâ
Inside was a manual for a fuel pressure tester, and the components had nothing to do with oil pressure testing. The product was incorrectly labelled and not fit for purpose.
When I returned to the store, I was immediately met with:
âWe donât do refunds, only store credits.â
As a business owner with an online store myself, Iâm well aware of Australian consumer law, and this statement is simply incorrect. Under consumer law, a retailer must provide a refund if a product is misrepresented, incorrectly labelled, or not as describedâall of which applied here.
After explaining this, I was told I needed to speak with the manager, who had conveniently just walked out the door. Staff called him and continued to justify their âcredit onlyâ policy. I also overheard one staff member refer to me as:
âOne of those customers.â
Apparently âone of those customersâ means someone who understands their legal rights and expects a business to act ethically.
I was left waiting 15â20 minutes for the manager to return before finally receiving a refund.
Key points:
The item was incorrectly labelled and not what I requested.
A staff member personally selected the wrong product for me.
The store attempted to deny a refund and push credit-onlyâa direct breach of consumer law.
Staff made dismissive comments about customers who know their rights.
Sydney Tools appears to rely on customers not fully understanding consumer protections. Thatâs unacceptable. Ethical businesses operate within the law, not around it.
I wonât be returning.
Purchased a circular saw blade with theâŠ
Purchased a circular saw blade with the wrong bore size, they refused to return/replace , also refused to escalate to someone that can make decisions, amazingly bad service from a retail business, Total tools will be getting my money going forward as they provide decent service and policies.
Awful service and they never respond
Had an issue with them not even sending a faulty battery on warranty back to manufacturer and repeatedly lying about the status of the return. After I went direct to manufacturer to get it sorted I put in a complaint via the feedback Chanâs as instructed on the website and they have simply ignored it for over a month despite repeated attempts to contact them. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. SELLING DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS
Iâve been a loyal Sydney Tools customer for years and spent thousands of dollars with them, but after my recent experience Iâll never shop there again.
On 27/08/2025 I purchased a Super Hydro 30m high-pressure hose from Sydney Tools Tuggerah. After ONE residential job (cleaning a driveway, bricks, curb guttering, and fences) the hose was already worn down to the wire braiding, making it unsafe to use. This is a product advertised as âabrasion resistantâ and âdesigned for professional use.â
When I returned the hose, the excuses started: first they told me it must have been âincorrect transport,â then that I had âmisused it,â and later they claimed it had been âcut.â At no point did they provide evidenceâjust assumption after assumption.
The most shocking part? My warranty claim was actually APPROVED through Sydney Toolsâ own customer service. I went into the store to choose a replacement, only for head office to reverse the decision and deny it without explanation. Even the sales staff in Tuggerah admitted I had been treated unfairly.
This is disgraceful customer service. A $200 hose failed after one basic job, my warranty was approved and then unfairly revoked, and I was left accused of things I didnât do. Sydney Tools clearly prioritises profits over customers, despite their claims of âcustomer satisfaction before, during and after each sale.â
If you value honesty, accountability, or fair treatment under Australian Consumer Law, avoid Sydney Tools.

ZERO STAR customer service andâŠ
ZERO STAR customer service and extremely poor staff at MICHINBURY NSW branch. I WILL NEVER EVER GO TO THAT BRANCH AGAIN..
Company as a whole should be under review for its dodgy policies. I could not return UNUSED items as company changed policy AFTER I had purchased items.
And stupid staff at Minchinbury staff treat you like a thief.THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO BUSINESS..
Invasion of Privacy
I went to the store to purchase a Makita Driver Drill for $269 for cash.
The attendant asked me for my phone number which I declined to give him. He then proceeded to lecture me about warranty needing a receipt to which I questioned âyou will give me a receipt for my purchase wonât you?â He said yes but youâd better not lose it and then said âoh, itâs over $250, the system may not allow me to process it with out your phone number. Iâll try it and seeâ so he took my $300 in cash then entered something into his computer then turned to me and said â no, the system needs your phone numberâ so I asked him to give me back my money and told him that I would purchase the drill somewhere else. He hesitated giving the cash back, glancing over towards a supervisor then thought twice about it and handed back my cash and I walked out. Sydney Tools are privacy invading tools and I will not step foot inside their stores again.
Sydney Tools buyer beware
I have not had a failed Hikoki charger replaced since May 2025 even after a NSW Fair Trading complaint that involved Sydney Tools legal council Eden Corbett. Buyer beware.

5 weeks waiting for an onlineâŠ
After 3 weeks waiting for an online order to be delivered, (made up of stock that was available at time of purchase), a phone call revealed 1 item was out of stock, so nothing had been sent. but after my call some of my order was posted and only took 1 day to arrive.
I only purchased online because it wasn't in stock locally and it doesn't seem very honest to sell stock they don't have.
2 week later I phoned to chase up the rest of my order and was told it had just come back in stock. It was posted the next day.
It seems like they don't post an order until you phone up to complain.
Absolutely appalling customerâŠ
Absolutely appalling customer experience and return policy. Products that regularly break and refusal to replace or refund.
Accusations of customer lying to avoid meeting consumer protection standards.
Itâs a shame more people donât read the shocking reviews before purchasing with them .
Still waiting months later after having to pay out of own pocket for return of equipment, met with excuses constantly.
Misrepresentation
Purchased a click and collect kit from Pakenham only to establish it was second hand tools and a repack they tried to say was new. Had to travel a distance to another store to collect proper kit. Complaint emails x 3 made in writing and not processed or followed up and no customer service. Very unprofessional and no accountability.
BUYER BEWARE OF SYDNEY TOOLS TERMS ANDâŠ
BUYER BEWARE OF SYDNEY TOOLS TERMS AND CONDITIONS . Happy to take your money donât expect a refund on a brand new unopened item with the original receipt in less than 14 days . They will direct you to there T&Câs and refuse to refund . Theyâll offer you a store creditâŠ. who wants to deal with a company that treats their customers customers like this. Itâs clear to see why they have such a low rating pretty poor. Needless to say with an experience like this I will never deal with them again. I will send my gang of twenty tradies to TKD or Total tools they are accommodating with returns and have good Customer service. After my private review with Sydney tools the so called customer service told how sorry they were and was there anything they could do I can . I replied a full refund thanks that was answered with no response much to my surprise confirming that they too have no interest in helping it was clearly a cut and paste message .Iâm sure Iâm not the first and wonât be the last.Upon spreading the word several other people have also had similar experiences.

Does not understand how the tools they sell work. (no trades experience). Can't confirm faults without sending product away (even when you demonstrate faults in front of them).
Got a refund eventually.
Good service
I have purchased from their website a few times now and have been quite satisfied with the pricing and postage time.
I bought a $670 battery chainsaw
I bought a $670 battery chainsaw, it stopped working in the 1st hour of using it so we took it back to Sydney tools Dubbo on the 19th may. They said I'd have it back inside 3 weeks and they would let me know when it arrived at the workshop etc. After 2 weeks I hadn't heard anything so I rang them and they had sent it to the Milwaukee service centre on the 30th may, I asked why they didn't send it asap and they said Milwaukee didn't like them sending only one thing as Milwaukee pay the courier. I rang Milwaukee and they said that was a lie and they encourage retail places to send tools needing repair asap as they have a 2 week turnaround policy including freight and that Sydney tools know this. Also Milwaukee had not received the tool. I waited for another couple of weeks and rang Sydney tools again as had heard nothing, they said they had no idea where my tool was so I asked them to find it and call me, they found it was still in transit as they had sent it to the wrong place. Milwaukee finally received my tool 4 weeks after I dropped it to the Sydney tools store. I complained to the head office of Sydney tools and they said they would talk to the manager and get him and the area manager to call me. That was 5 days ago and still waiting. In the end I'm now just dealing with Milwaukee and they are sending the tool straight to me so I don't have to deal with Syndney tools again. I will never walk into that store or any Sydney tools store again, very bad customer service and arrogant behaviour when I spoke with them
SYDNEY TOOLS ONLINE - BEWARE
Initial review edited as Sydney Tools customer service followed up a negative review and sent the missing parts, everything was received 7 weeks after reporting the issue.
Follow-up customer service was great but 2 stars overall. It sucks having to leave negative reviews before receiving a response from a business about missing product parts.
Initial Review (1 star): I purchased several items from Sydney Tools online, some of which arrived with missing parts. I contacted their customer support and provided the information that was requested - after this I heard nothing from the business despite following them up 3 times. All I wanted was the missing parts I had paid for to be sent.
Faulty products. Terrible customer service. Unethical business behaviour.
Sales guy Scott Anderson was superâŠ
Sales guy Scott Anderson was super helpful and informative. He spent time with me helping select the correct type of battery operated drill for my needs. I had just moved to Bundaberg and this was my first purchase while setting up my household.
Scott was an absolute legend
Scott was an absolute legend. Was calm and collected. Even though i was talking his ear off while trying to explain what i needed. He then proceeded to explain different options for different tools and helped me make an informed decision on what I needed for the task I was trying to accomplish. I would highly recommend him.
