I almost paid $8000 more than I had to because the tax professional I worked with missed two very obvious, very basic pieces of information from my property. I had to go back and basically review all of his work myself to make sure no other mistakes were made. Then, after all was said and done, I asked for a refund (I didn't pay them for me to have to do my own taxes) and they ignored me for more than a week. Bad preparation but even worse customer service.

Taxfyle delivered one of the worst professional service experiences we’ve ever encountered. We provided every required document promptly, including a signed Form 8879, yet our return was never filed. Our assigned preparer repeatedly gave false information, including claiming we owed state taxes in Washington (a state with no income tax) and asserting a federal balance due that did not exist.

Communication was equally unacceptable. After multiple follow‑ups, the preparer simply stopped responding. No updates, no clarification, no acknowledgment of messages — nothing.

The most serious issue: Taxfyle submitted an unauthorized IRS extension without our consent. This is a major breach of trust and exposes us to potential penalties. When we attempted to resolve the situation, Taxfyle went silent.

Despite failing to perform the service, Taxfyle then charged us $350. We have since disputed the charge with our bank, initiated a chargeback, and are filing complaints with Florida consumer authorities and the BBB. We are also preparing for arbitration under their own Terms of Service.

This company demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism, accuracy, and accountability. Based on our experience, we strongly advise avoiding Taxfyle.

My financial advisor offered complimentary tax services through TaxFyle, and we stupidly decided to use them. I thought I did my due diligence prior to starting, but here's how it went.

We were asked to have all material submitted by Feb 15. Aside from 2 outstanding 1099s we did that. It's now April 14, and we have yet to receive a return draft after being strung along for weeks with "I'll have it done soon."

Our assigned CPA, Gregory Sechler seems to be the only person available to work on our return. We were told he had a health emergency April 12, at which point you'd think some other people would be brought in to ensure his caseload was managed. Nope. You'd also think they'd have planned for hiccups and gotten returns done early just in case.

Communication is challenging as it all goes through an app, so I have no one to call or way to get this resolved. My texts in the app go unanswered now.

I've filed for an extension on my own, but will have to suffer the penalties from late payments. Not to mention the massive stress that goes along with all of this.
I'll be returning to my former CPA, and happily pay his high fees!

**Update: I reached out to TaxFyle after they commented on my review and never heard back from them.

Taxfyle's Pro omitted a critical federal form from my paid return. After four contact attempts over three weeks and full detailed information provided, the job was closed silently with no explanation. Now my return is not just permanently open to IRS audit; any gain on my investments triggers the most punitive tax regime in the federal code, plus compounding daily interest. The omission is material.

I engaged Taxfyle for full-service tax return preparation, specifically because I wanted a licensed professional to identify and file all required forms. The assigned Pro had full knowledge of my foreign investment activity from our discussions. He filed my 2024 return without Form 8621, a mandatory federal information return for PFIC reporting, and never investigated the subject. I discovered this almost a year later on my own.

When I raised the issue in March 2026 as soon as I discovered, Partner Support reopened the job on March 13 and engaged the Pro. The Pro's response was to ask about rental property entities, which I don't have and are unrelated to Form 8621. I corrected him and provided comprehensive, organized entity information the same day. No further response came from either the Pro or support.

I followed up with support on March 16 and 17. The amendment job received no response at any point. The only reply I received from Taxfyle during the entire period addressed a separate question about this year's filing and said nothing about the outstanding amendment. I waited in good faith, given the workload of the period. On April 5, I received an automated notification: "Your Job Has Been Closed." No resolution. No amendment filed. No context. No communication with me. No consent from me. My follow-up on April 6 in a final effort to rectify has received no reply.

The consequence is explicit. Under IRS rules, a missing PFIC form suspends the statute of limitations indefinitely. The entire return stays open to audit, not just the PFIC items, until Taxfyle completes their mandate and files the amendment. Also under IRS rules, without this filing any future gain on the investments triggers the most punitive tax regime in the federal code: taxed at the highest ordinary income rate (37% versus my current 10-12%), plus compounding daily interest charges. Identifying which forms a client's situation requires is the core obligation of a full-service engagement. That obligation was not met.

Taxfyle guarantees the accuracy of all forms and deliverables. A required and consequential federal form was missed. When I raised it, the job was closed without resolution - without context even. Prospective clients should know this is the experience that the Taxfyle guarantee and their Pros can produce.

The quality of service i am getting is just terrible. I told the customer support that my CPA is not doing her job, not answering my questions, mostly ignoring me and delaying the job. CS just told me they cannot do anything and i am stuck with this CPA. Whole experience is just frustrating and terrible.

Taxfyle filed two years of my taxes while they partnered with Bench Accounting. I was just notified in December 2025 that for the first year of taxes they filed for me in 2021 they did not file a very important form (568) with the state of California and as it was many years ago, I'm now faced with refiling fees as well as hundred of dollars in fines from the state of CA.

I first tried to resolve this directly with Taxfyle but they refused to help. I opened a case on BBB and they still refuse to help me even though my issue is the direct result of their tax pro's error. They even went as so far to blame me for not asking enough questions or seeing that the form was missing when they filed my taxes. If I knew everything that was supposed to go in a tax return why would I be using a professional service?!

Avoid this company at all costs as they do not stand by the work of their accountants and do not support their customers. They wouldn't even refile my return for me even though they were the ones to mess it up! Hard pass, I wouldn't wish their services upon my worst enemy.

Not to mention their support is all AI on their site and hard to get ahold of anyone. Awful company.

I have been using Taxfyle since 2017. Always have a quick and easy experience with my pro. I also benefit from having all my tax documentation readily available in one place.

The accountant I got matched to was very knowledgable and she was able to handle a more complicated situation with my return. Uploading the documents was super easy.

I called in not knowing what to expect. The rep guided me through the initial process and walked me through all the next steps in a short amount of time. The pro and support team were quick to respond whenever I had any questions throughout.

Will definitely be using them again going forward.

I had a frustrating experience using Taxfyle and would not recommend them based on how my case was handled.

I uploaded all my documents and paid 50% upfront based on their estimate. After a tax professional accepted my job, communication and progress were extremely slow, and I had to repeatedly follow up just to get updates.

I was told a draft would be provided, but instead received follow-up questions that I had already answered earlier. Due to the delays and lack of preparedness, I decided to cancel the service.

After I cancelled, I was later informed that a draft had been uploaded and was then told I would be charged 100% of the service fee.

Overall, the experience felt disorganized, delayed, and unfair in how billing was handled. I do not recommend using this service, but if you do document everything carefully if you choose to use this service.

Easy to use, good price for my return

Do not use this company. The service is awful. After uploading all documents and providing the requested information, I couldn't get the required consultation appointment scheduled since it was never made available to do so.

Never use this company. I had to correct the return they created 3 different times because I kept finding incorrect inputs. Additionally, I needed to file 2 amended returns because the one they created was also incorrect and caused a large tax bill. Terrible service that created far more headaches that I ended up having to correct.

It takes all my stress out of tax filling. I had a great experience with taxfyle. Love it

Bad experience from top to bottom. And we should have known better - we used them two year in a row.

tldr: idea of a CPA preparing your return on a quick online platform is promising, but the Taxfyle platform and support is terrible and tax pro can't do anything about it. We couldn't even sign our return.

This year we received marketing offering us the same price as last year - about $300 for a 1040 with schedule C attached. You can go cheaper on do it yourself software, but the idea here is have a CPA or EA do it, and we liked that.

However, they never honored the offer (after texting us marketing coupon codes for weeks). The coupon code literally failed. Reached out and the sales person said the best they could offer us was a 20% discount. We still did it, and then it got worse.

Essentially their software platform is a place to upload documents and then you chat with a CPA who picks up your case. In each case, our actual preparer has been nice and efficient. However the software has been so bad. I got errors every time I logged into the account. I was unable to add banking information. I was unable to approve the draft.

Their e-sign process did not work. The CPA was so used to it he told we probably wouldn't receive the emails, and we could go outside their platform and use Adobe to just sign the PDF and manually send it back.

Which is what we did because even after opening 3 support tickets we got no response from Taxfyle (oh - except one where a person answered a WEEK later saying "are you still having this problem?" (Yes Matilda. Still having the problem. How about a troubleshooting question?).

Would be 1-star, but the tax pros got things done despite Taxfyle, so we got our taxes filed.

Taxfyle has been on a slow death march.

First cutting real-time resolution when utilizing intercom to some janky taxbot and 24/48 hr email follow-up…

They dropped Intercom → lost real-time support and proper ticketing UX

They built their own bot → but don’t have a strong help center or case routing

They deflected too aggressively → users forced to email

They broke the loop → support now takes 48 hours which is AWFUL for taxes

They probably automated before they documented → bot has nothing useful to say

Also, the lack of quality of the pros is ridiculous. If you want an actual pro you have to pay even more. Wtf!?!

Bugs with seeing documents. Nowhere to be found.

I'd give 0 stars if I could. This company is very unethical.

We are a CPA firm that was using their outsourcing model. We signed up for the start of the 2023 tax season (roughly December 2023). We took advantage of a prepayment discount and bought $60k of credit with them for tax preparation.

The pros assigned to us were completely unreliable and incompetent. Many pros would be assigned and then never start any work or would indicate experience in software we used (Sureprep), when they didn't. We cycled through at least 10 pros assigned to our account. If they did work, they would often take over a month to complete a return, not complete the workpapers or give very poor work documentation (we paid extra for them to do this), or make egregious errors such as deducting owner distributions as "miscellaneous expenses", double deducting home office expenses, not being able to enter assets off a cost segregation study. They represented pros can complete foreign forms (5471, 3520), but in both cases we assigned those returns, they did the rest of return but not those forms.

Communication was poor from both the pros and the customer relations team and ended up being full of empty promises.

Ultimately we said enough is enough and requested cancelation and a refund of the unused contract amount. We indicated that we did not intend on walking away from money and that we fully intended to utilize the contract if cancelation wasn't an option.

They agreed to cancelation. I asked about a refund and said they'd get back to me. A month later they indicated there would be no refund. So now, they are keeping the money and not providing the services! This is the exact scenario I told them I didn't want to be in. I even reminded this to them with the link of the Zoom recording of the conversations I had with them.

Submitted credit card disputes. They're lying to AMEX indicating that they are still offering to provide services despite emails that the contract is canceled. Over $30k is overpaid based on what we paid versus work they did. Stay away from them.

In Dec 2024, I purchased premium tax filing services from Rocket Tax, which uses TaxFyle. I uploaded all docs by early February. Since then, I’ve been assigned to a third tax professional, and unfortunately, no-one worked on my returns at all. I am tired of following-up, all excuses and lies but no commitment to get anything done. I’m expecting a huge refund, and I’m losing business opportunities due to the lack of funds.

Deeply disappointed with this experience. It’s unprofessional and unacceptable. I don’t understand how they can be in business?
