Was recommended by a neighbour to get wall coating done.
Issues started immediately - was told on phone someone would come over to quote, what actually happened was a 1 hour sales pitch I cut short (or would have been longer) with a “buy not get it cheaper” tactic that wasn’t explained beforehand. Told the, this was not possible, and I secured the low price 5 days later. Was told clearly the low price was due to the average costs of works in the area, so if the building was worse that originally seen, it wouldn’t cost more.

When the builder came round to do coating he pulled off the plaster if mine and the neighbouring house and said it was too damaged and wouldn’t do the coating.

The company tried to charge another £1000 on top to fix the plaster, which was eventually negotiated down. This was a long back and forth as the cost was set originally and stated very clearly it was the final price.

The works done seem to be a good standard but the final kick in the teeth was my poor neighbour who recommended me never got her recommendation payout as “I never handed in the piece of paper”. It’s 2026, why are we using paper? The sales person saw the paper and was aware and lied to say she was not. To note here, my neighbour who recommended was also in the email chains as it was her house that had the plaster removed!

Honestly the company were rude and did not tell the truth for, the get go. Overall the work done is fine but will not recommend to anyone.

I signed a contract in my home and later exercised my legal right to cancel within the 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

Initially, I was advised that a £300 administration fee was non-refundable. After formally asserting my statutory cancellation rights, my full deposit was eventually refunded.

Customers should be aware that administration or cancellation fees are not permitted when cancelling within 14 days for contracts signed in the home.

If anyone has previously paid the £300 fee in these circumstances, they may wish to contact the company’s director, Carl Mercer, to request a refund.

We had a visit from a very nice lady with a view to replacing our flat roof felt. She explained the work and measured the roof. However, because my wife had to go out during the meeting she explained Phil would come back the next day. We had a call from the contract manager the next morning who asked what type of flat roof we had. When I suggested he should have known what we wanted from our previous visit, he said I was annoying him and cancelled the enquiry.

We had a chipped stone path and patio along the width of the rear of our house replaced with a porcelain paving wider pathway and an additional patio. we are extremely pleased with the finished path and patios which look so much better and are more useable. Peter and Gavin did an excellent job and dealt with the unexpected (two layers of rotting decking under a large section of the existing pathway and a manhole cover none of which we were aware of). They were both friendly and helpful throughout the job. I would highly recommend The Home Improvement Project.

This company has recently replaced my conservatorie's polycarbonate roof with a solid one. The work they have carried out is good and the team who did it were friendly and hardworking. So far I have been able to use it during heatwaves and a rare, heavy rain shower was a thousand times quieter than previously. I look forward to seeing how it copes with the cold weather next winter.
The reason I have not given them 5 stars is because the 'after build' service was disappointing. Promised phone calls which didn't happen, even an arranged visit that didn't happen. The attitude of some of the men who answered the phone was dismissive and unfriendly, whilst others were polite and helpful. The inspector they sent round to check the work clearly had no idea what she was supposed to be checking and took photos back to the office - another promised call that didn't happen. I felt very much as if it was a case of 'they had my money so didn't need to bother with me any more'. Also their waste management policy was non existent, which, in this day and age, is unacceptable.
