childcare programme
I had an amazing few weeks volunteering with TMR in Sri Lanka. The staff were super welcoming and kind, especially Chamodi, who leads the childcare and teaching programmes and really made the whole experience so enjoyable. The whole programme had such a positive, friendly atmosphere, and I’d 100% recommend it to anyone thinking about getting involved.

We had the most amazing time!
We had the most amazing time volunteering in Namibia through the mighty roar. They organised everything on their end, shuttles from airports etc and all we had to do was arrive! We walked with baboons climbing on us which was so fun! We fed meerkats and we learnt so so much about all the animals of Africa, all the staff are so knowledgable, if you have a question they have an answer. I honestly couldn’t recommend anything more, we made so many wonderful friends and fell in love with Namibia. What an amazing experience.

Teaching programme
I had an amazing three weeks volunteering in the teaching programme. Everyone was so kind, both the other volunteers and staff. All of the kids were amazing and it was so great to teach and see them progress. The whole place a really lovely vibe and so would massively recommend to anyone considering it.

Amazing organisation with lots of great opportunities to book
Me and my boyfriend did 1 week volunteering with elephants at WFFT (Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand) and loved it. It is hard work but so rewarding. The Mighty Roar were so helpful, answering all of my questions efficiently, making the experience smooth. They checked up on us to make sure we’d arrived safe and were overall an amazing organisation to book through. I would 100% recommend.

Street Dog Programme Sri Lanka
I just did 2 weeks on the street dog programme at TMR Sri Lanka. The experience has been wonderful: the staff are so kind and supportive and always check in to see how the day is going.
Although the rooms are basic and cosy that is to be expected with a centre hosting this many people. And the food was freshly prepared and allowed me to have local dishes.
It is worth noting that this in not a animal sanctuary in a way that will be familiar to any English volunteers, it is designed to get street dogs back to a place of health, not for them to live in indefinitely as there is not the space for this. The dogs are loved and cared for, and monitored if they return to the local village. Kavi (the wonderful lady who runs the dog programme) attempts to adopt all the dogs in the sanctuary - but sadly this is not always possible - this is not because they don't care for the dogs but a reflection on having to respond to those most in need.
I met some wonderful people durning my time at TMR, and felt safe and supported for my entire stay.

I had an amazing time at the mighty roar I did the dog program and had the best time Kavi is the lady who leads the dogs program and is the most welcoming and lovely staff member I have met during my time here. I also did the travel experience which I wouldn’t rate as highly as my time at the main base at TMR the first couple of days of the travel were unbelievable we had the best time however this slowly went down hill towards the last 3 days with lots of hanging around and going off schedule.

Ghana experience
I’m just coming to the end of 2 weeks of volunteering on the mental health project at Dixcove hospital with TMR.
Staying a stones throw from the beautiful beach in Busua at Dadson Lodge. The local team at Dadson Lodge have been so welcoming from the moment you arrive and can help with anything you need to know.
The volunteers eat all meals together with a variety of local dishes made by the team at the Lodge. Dinah and her team arrange activities after work most afternoons - cooking, dance classes and visits to the market etc. This is a lovely touch and very inclusive for everyone.
Evenings I have had here tend to be at the local surf restaurant on the beach or the pool bar across the road.
The mental health unit at the hospital have been really great too and I’ve been very involved in both hospital and outreach programmes.

Incredible experience at TMR Sri Lanka
I was at The Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka for one month this January and I had an incredibly amazing time! I did the Travel and Volunteer Experience and would definitely recommend this. The airport pickup at the start was reliable and nice, and when we arrived we were greated so nicely!
The Travel Experience was great! We saw so many of the best places in Sri Lanka and Karu, who guided us, was very sweet and showed us cool places! I definitely saw different and more things than I would have, if I had travelled alone, like a wood carving factory (which was so cool!).
The Volunteer Programmes were really fun! Initially I started with the Turtle Programme but I decided to help with the childcare programme too for two weeks and sometimes helped out with the dogs! Even though I did that, I still had a lot of free time and in the childcare programm it was incredibly sweet to be with the kids! In the turtle programm I saw a turtle laying its eggs and turtle hatchlings, which were both incredible experiences!
The staff here is truly so nice, they helped me out in so many situations! Chamodi, Kavi and Tharu are the sweetest people ever and it was always so nice to talk to them!!!
The Mighty Roar offered many additional trips or activities as well, which were so much fun to try out!
I had a great time here and thank you to all the staff!

Volunteering in Sri Lanka with the mighty roar
I joined the teaching program on January 2nd for 4 weeks with the mighty roar in Sri Lanka, and it was one of the best experiences. Doing the teaching program gave me so much joy meeting kids of all ages and being able to work with them. Chamodi is the coordinator for teaching and childcare she makes everyone feel welcome she helps you when lesson planning she gives support and confidence to the volunteers she definitely helped making my time here!
The staff members here are so welcoming and lovely as well as the locals.
I definitely recommend coming to Sri Lanka and working with the mighty roar.

the mighty roar are truly amazing !
the mighty roar are truly amazing !! A friend and I did the turtle sanctuary program in Sri Lanka for 2 weeks and loved it. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, all the volunteers were social and got along so easy and the accommodation was great too. I will say that this program gives you a lot of free time so it’s good mix of time to yourself and helping do some good but if your only looking to volunteer, you may get a little restless. They do provide activities for you to get involved in through the week though which is good to fill some of your time. We also got to help out with some of the street dogs and the childcare which was so lucky and we absolutely loved that too. This is my second time volunteering with the mighty roar, I volunteered in South Africa last year and both times, the teams have been nothing but perfect !! Please do this if you get the chance because it’s an amazing opportunity that you’ll remember forever 🥰🥰

4 wk travel and volunteer trip in Sri Lanka
On a 4 week travel and volunteer here in Sri Lanka. Everyone is very friendly and the volunteering is very relaxed, which is nice as it gives you time to spend with new friends, go out and sightsee. The travel part was great and gives you a snapshot of the country. Karu and the drivers were wonderful too.

Sea turtle conservation
I had a great time volunteering on the sea turtle project. The whole team were amazing and what they’re doing to help the animals and children is fantastic. I liked how flexible it was when you’re there, if you wanted to try a different project you could. Hopefully I’ll go back one day. Thank you to all the staff working at tmr Sri Lanka.

Liam Gamboa - TMR REVIEW
My name is Liam Gamboa, I did Medical Volunteering with TMR Ghana. It was an unforgettable trip. Landing in Accra, I spent the day going around the city, fully taking in my first African city experience. It was buzzing and amazing. Upon meeting those from the host group, I met 2 stunning young men, Rubin and Francis, who evidently, because of what they were wearing, were surfers. They accompanied us on a long drive to the glorious beach town called Busua. The drive was extremely long and boiling hot, and bumpy, however I loved every second. The colours, smells, sounds, languages, and environment were totally new to me and fascinating.
We escaped into an Oasis (Busua) which was a much more laid back and slowed down environment than Accra. We hopped off the transport van out onto the front of Dadson’s lodge. A place of which I have endless good things to say. I was showed to my room, not having to lift a finger. The room, which was exactly what I wanted, is 30 second walk from the beach, a balcony overlooking a basketball court/skateboarding space as well as the beach. I was ecstatic.
After settling in, we were brought to the beach bar, where we sat on a bench overlooking a beautiful beach, covered with locals doing all sorts. Every part of the beach was sports games, surfers stretching, people dancing, kids playing, and best of all, the surfers riding the waves so impressively. We enjoyed our first meal here where us volunteers all fell in love with the food.
When being taken to the beach bar, was the first time I met Dinah, the heart of the experience as a whole. A beautiful, elegant, kind young lady who was also with us on the trip from the airport. Already, I was super happy with the individuals I met, and also shocked as to how attractive everyone was. But despite my sweatiness and patchiness, I fell in love with the beach and the strip of bars along it.
After the introductory day, the volunteering started. I was stationed in the Dixcove Government Hospital. The drive to work every day was one of my funnier memories. The hospital was amazingly receptive to me being there, and it was a crazy good, immersive, educational, personal experience. The nurses and doctors all were incredibly impressive and social, always thought to involve me. I watched amazing surgeries and had my own patients etc.
When all the volunteers were together after work, the group organised activities for us which between us volunteers were the highlights. Monday to Friday, we were given breakfast lunch and dinner, which was always so nice and a great way for us volunteers to update and talk over eating delicious food.
Dadson’s lodge is a wonderful haven. Everyone working there I loved. It made me so happy to see such a well gelled, healthy group of friends and family, playing board games or dancing, making fufu, etc. hearing the laughter and loud love made me feel so safe and content there.
If anyone is thinking of doing volunteering abroad, I urge that Ghana is life changing, and I know for a fact I will return to Busua. Rubin, Francis, Stephen, Alfred - amazing young men. Athletic like no other and brought such humour and energy to everything we did, and were all so impressive in their respective sports and interests. Everyone who was involved in cooking, cleaning, activities, whatever- every individual is a kind and warm soul which I am eternally appreciative for.
But most of all is thanks to Dinah. It’s because of her that this trip felt the way it did. She has a funky and intoxicating vibe which makes it hard not to smile and feel part of the group. A smart, impressive, gorgeous person who has a prosperous future, and my biggest thanks go to her and the amazing group of people I got to know over 3 weeks. My heart pained to leave. Bar none best experience of my life. Don't listen to any bull**** bad reviews of people who don’t know better.
