I've been working with Ed for a year and half. Meeting with him has made me progress so much farther and faster in my songwriting. I highly reccommed his one on one sessions if you are looking to up your skills. Ed will look at a song and be able to bring it to its full potential and so genius at it. I leave every meeting feeling so encouraged to move forward and work even harder. I would still be lost on this songwriting journey without his courses book and these one on one sessions. Ed is the best!!!

Ed's advice on our songs was so thoughtful, and really creative. His musical knowledge really shows, suggesting simple changes that brought parts of the song to life, that we'd never thought of in years of playing them. It was really fun to have Ed's notes to work from, and I know the songs will be so much better for it the next time we perform them. I'm really grateful for the wise and inspiring feedback that Ed gave us - I will be back for more!

I have followed the Song Foundry for a number of years on “you tube”….I found the Art of Songwriting an excellent book for students of composition and refreshing for teachers who wish to update their teaching plans.

Wrote a song by following the process laid out clearly and concisely in Ed's latest book "How to write a song (even if you've never written one before and you think you suck)" and it turned out wonderfully well. Ed has a talent to explain things in an engaging and fun way. You can feel his passion for teaching throughout his work, which is a great ressource to help you reach your full potential as a songwriter.

I came across Ed Bell's "The Art of Songwriting" while researching to teach my first songwriting class at a community college. Not only was the information invaluable, the writing was clear, concise and easy to read, with a friendly, conversational tone.
The "How to Write a Song" video course helped me understand how to use the concepts from the book in a practical way, and I especially liked the demonstrations where Bell completes each step of the songwriting process. There are many ways to write a song, but I feel using this organized process can really help if you have not written a song before or if you have trouble finishing your songs.

I really like Ed's inviting style, personality and practical songwriting info which covers both the musical side and how you can wrangle yourself into actually showing up to do the work.

I'd never been able to write songs, every time it just came out wrong somehow. However, after going through Ed's book online and following the exercises I found at the end I'd written a song that was half decent. Now there's no stopping me, I'm writing most days. So all in all I've found the book very helpful to get me started. Cheers Ed.

Well it's kindda helpful since now I think my songs are getting better but I wasn't able to understand composing yet... Still I'm thankful

It´s wonderful to have sites like The song foundry. There is so much to learn here! I am taking tips I get from this site to my own songwriting class and all my students are learning a lot, some of them might have actually signed up already for this great platform. Well done and good luck with every project you undertake, I know it takes a lot of effort to build up something like this, and you are doing it great!

Really helpful web site that’s full of top tips, even if you just dip in for a few mins. Would throughly recommend Ed Bell's songwriting books as well eg How to write a song. One of my real go to web sites for songwriting advice.

The Art of Songwriting by Ed is the best book about creativity that I have ever read. Balancing theory, thinking and feeling in equal measure, really helps you to find your own way to approach songwriting, and to identify as a songwriter.

I have engaged a lot with Ed Bell of The Song Foundry over the past few years. I have always found his advice to be professional, informed and very helpful indeed. His book The Art of Songwriting was insightful and motivational. Also, I used his song critique service twice for feedback on early versions of my songs. Once again, the advice on improving these compositions was very useful. I highly recommend The Song Foundry and Ed Bell for the courses, books and other services.

First came across The Song Foundry about three years ago, as I was trying to learn the basics about song writing. I have read a couple of the books and used the free online content and found it simple to follow and fun, and I have written several songs based around Ed's advice. Great for beginners, after that you are on your own!

Ed is super friendly, knowledgable and a great educator. He really wants to help fellow songwriters become better at their craft.

The Song Foundry isn’t another set of ‘rules’ or ‘hacks’, it’s a refreshing perspective for being a songwriter. You simply need to treat it as a lifestyle, open your ears, listen and write, write, write! Ed’s ability to break down all the themes covered into simple, manageable chunks is second to none. There’s plenty of nuggets of wisdom sprinkled across both the site and books.

I started using the one on one coaching sessions on The Song Foundry in March 2021.
I found the sessions honest helpful and full of constructive critique on drafts of lyrics I had written. Ed gave me the confidence to trust in my writing abilities. We worked together using the step by step process of song structure, to write lyrics from a song idea I had.
I highly recommend The Song Foundry to all budding song writers.
