Mixed bag
Booked through booking.com, process was very easy!
Collecting the car was more difficult, no offices in Sofia airport were open and we werenât aware we needed to get a shuttle to their office away from the airport to collect the car. Luckily a police officer at the second terminal was very helpful and directed us to the pick up point. The driver who collected us was lovely but once we got to the office it took a very long time to finally get the car.
One thing if you book through booking.com the insurance you get may not be through Top, they donât take kindly to this and we spent a good 5 minutes explaining that we were insured and didnât want their extra insurance.
Returning the car was much easier, although some staff members were verbally accosting other people returning their cars about them not being clean so I think we were lucky with who we got on return.
Unsure if Iâd use Top again, the price is fairly good and the vehicle was great but it seems like a 50/50 on whether youâll have a good time with them or not

It was a good experience
First time renting from this company. I rented a small car, automatic, Opel Corsa through a broker called Zest car rental with full insurance and in the beginning I was a bit confused as why do I still have to pay the deposit but shortly I understood that if anything happens, the broker's insurance will reimburse the amount charged by Top rent a car. I arrived a bit earlier at the airport but they said it's ok come with the shuttle. At the office it was simple as I've done the chech in online prior to landing so the pictures of my driving licence and passport together with other details were already in their system. The car was mechanically ok, working brakes, good tyres, etc, Aircon was working, on the exterior there was quite a few small scratches and dents but I wasn't bothered by that. I took plenty of pictures of the exterior and interior. When returning the car I washed the car beforehand and the return was nice and easy and Kristiyan Bonev checked the car and refunded the deposit. Thank you

scammers terrible experience
Terrible experience, total lack of transparency, and disgraceful customer service
âI strongly advise against renting a vehicle with this company. The insurance coverage they promote is completely misleading. The so-called tire excess fee is nothing short of a scam: they force you to pay for the full repair of the tire out of pocket, and on top of that, they charge you 150 euros (120 euros for the full excess plus an additional 30-euro "admin fee" for managing something you already paid for yourself).
âThe insurance coverage outside of Bulgaria is useless and offers zero peace of mind during your trip. To make matters worse, the customer support is appallingâthe agents were extremely rude and unhelpful when asked for explanations.
âDue to this clear abuse and unjustified charges, I have officially filed a complaint with the relevant consumer protection authorities. Save yourself the stress and rent from a transparent, honest company instead.

We would like to clarify that as a spare tire was available in the vehicle, Article 10.9 of the General Terms and Conditions of the Rental Agreement requires the customer to replace the damaged tire with the spare tire themselves. As this was not done, any services provided by the third party, including the related costs, remain at the renter's expense.
Regarding the â¬120 excess and the â¬30 administrative fee, we would like to clarify that both charges are based on the rights and obligations set out under the additional Top Protection coverage included in your rental.
Under this coverage, your financial liability for tire damage is limited to â¬120. This excess applies whenever a damaged tire needs to be replaced.
The â¬30 administrative fee also forms part of the applicable damage procedure. It is charged when new damage occurs to a rental vehicle and covers the administrative work required to process and resolve the damage, including its assessment, documentation and handling.
We fully understand that this situation has caused you inconvenience. However, our team made every reasonable effort to assist you under the circumstances, and the charges were applied in accordance with the agreed Rental Terms and the coverage included in your rental. Based on the circumstances of the case and the applicable Terms & Conditions, we consider that our contractual obligations were fulfilled.
