I instructed a survey with West Country Surveyors on a barn conversion.

Really happy with the service, report and I was able to talk to the surveyor after I received the report to discuss a few areas I was concerned about.

David recently surveyed a house for us that we were considering the purchase. The whole experience was excellent.

Leading up to the survey, we we able to talk to David in some detail about the property and how he operated. We felt he genuinely cared about understanding our situation and were able to feed in our plans for the house in advance. Every survey we have had done in the past was rather "production line", where you just pay some money, get a report sent to you afterwards and if you're lucky have the chance to chat with them afterwards.

David doesn't fit that mould. In fact, rather than simply taking that production line approach, he actually called us from the property after having completed only about 1/3 of the job. There were sufficient defects and potential serious defects with the property that he felt continuing was unethical and that we should be seeking advice from a structural engineer in the first instance.

David took a lot of time in that call to explain the issues, without charging us for his time. The following day he presented us with a letter containing a summary of his findings (not a full survey) with photographs demonstrating the issues. With this information we were able to make a well informed decision about whether to proceed with the purchase or not.

David then refunded us 50% of the original fee, which we felt was extremely honest and beyond what many surveyors might have done. It would have been very easy for him to complete to job and charge us full price for what would effectively have been a useless report full of red flag issues.

We would not hesitate to use David again and to recommend him other people.

Very thorough and detailed survey in a well presented format

We were so glad to have employed the services of West Country Surveyors in a recent potential purchase of a property. We requested a level 3 building survey. The level of professionalism and knowledge in the feedback we received was exceptional. The clarity of the feedback in all forms whether verbal or written allowed us to make an informed decision about the property we were considering. So much so that in this particular case it was the best information we could have received and prevented us from purchasing a property that to the untrained eye looked ok but had some serious structural issues and would have resulted in significant hidden costs.
Communication with the company from the moment of our initial enquiry in requesting a survey through to the report stage was prompt, clearly communicated and personable. We were always asked what we wanted to get out of the survey in addition to what we should expect from the service. We would have absolutely no doubts about using this company again and would recommend them to anyone who needs a robust building survey

Buying a grade II listed home is never going to be a snap decision, so a level 3 survey by a real expert is a definite requirement. We hoped to buy a "recently, skilfully converted" restored property in Ilminster. The design of the conversion was certainly excellent and the restoration looked good to us. A survey by West Country Surveyors showed that all was not well. a lot of the restoration work was either already in poor condition or had never been carried out. There were unresolved structural concerns. We received a well- written and comprehensive report complete with photographs which enabled us to get the head/heart balance right and withdrew from the purchase, undoubtedly saving ourselves major expense and disappointment. Thank you David.

We used Westcountrysurveyors for a Home Buyers Report. It was evident the surveyor had been thorough and given careful attention to any potential problem areas.

A few other highlights:
- Responded promptly to emails and always encouraged us to get in touch if we had questions;
- Fitted us in ahead of schedule thanks to a cancellation;
- Spoke to us on the phone for half an hour in the evening following the survey to discuss findings;
- Final report was delivered a few days later than originally anticipated, but this was during a busy period, further evidenced by being sent at 10:30pm!

We instructed West Country Surveyors to carry out a Home Condition Survey (Level 2). David was approachable, attentive, provided timely responses, and gave great clarity. We wouldn't hesitate to use West Country Surveyors again.

A very through survey was done by David on a house I was buying, it gave me some points to discuss with the owner, well worth it.

David Clare was very efficient and would respond by email or telephone in less than a day. He called me on the day he surveyed the property to discuss the main issues with the property which assisted us greatly when deciding whether or not to proceed with the purchase and was happy to discuss any subsequent queries I had. The only downside was how long the queue was to get the survey done but this was the same situation (if not longer) for the other few South West surveyors I spoke to and is just representative of how busy the market is in general.

Great service, its that simple! David promptly responded to our queries & request for availability and quoted competitively. Our survey was very detailed and highlighted a number of actions that needed addressing and saved us a reasonable amount of money and reduction of risk. A leaky pipe turned into a significant boiler service and repair we ultimately avoided paying. David discussed these over the phone which is fairly standard fair, but when probed further his knowledge and experience was evident. My mum is buying a house in Taunton and we will certainly be using David for her survey without doubt.

Extremely efficient and fully explained findings in plain English during a phone meeting = with the aid of extensive photographs - before writing the report. As a result, I withdrew from the purchase and they offered me a refund on the typing of the actual report which I no longer required. It wasn't the news that I wanted to hear but their findings saved me many tens of thousands which needed to be spent on the property.
