1. The machine is advertised with volumetric control, but in practice this does not behave like true volumetric dosing. My Bezzera Crema DE HX functions as a time-based water output rather than delivering a consistent volume. This becomes evident when changing grind size: in a true volumetric system, the dispensed volume should remain largely consistent. Here, it varies, while the duration of water flow stays constant. In other words, the implementation behaves like a timer rather than a genuine volumetric system. Build quality is in line with many Italian machines in this price range - acceptable, but not exceptional. Considering the feature limitations, I would not consider this good value for money and would not purchase the machine again.

2. The dealer: The purchasing and after-sales experience was disappointing.
- It took three days to validate my AmEx Platinum card, which is unusually slow.
- Upon arrival, the PID display was not working at all.
Instead of offering a replacement or proper service solution, I was instructed to open the machine and check internal wiring myself, with the assurance that this would not void the warranty. While this resolved the issue (a loose cable, likely caused during transport), this is not something a customer should be expected to handle on a new product. This falls within the dealer’s responsibility. When I subsequently asked for compensation for the inconvenience, communication stopped entirely.

The combination of unclear/misleading feature positioning (volumetric control), average build quality, and a weak customer experience makes this a disappointing purchase overall. My next purchase - a larger, more robust machine for our office - will not be with this dealer.

A great team and lovely people

I've been dealing with Jim and his team since 2013 and have only great things to say about everything they do. They are a world-class team in all respects, especially in terms of professionalism, knowledge, fairness, and post-sale service. They are also extremely kind and honest. I bought from them a La Nuova Era Cuadra II espresso machine and a Lelit grinder in 2013 and a Lelit Bianca machine and another Lelit grinder in 2020. The greatest thing about Jim and his team is their post-sale service and advice. They are always there for you for any questions you may have. The impression is that they do this not for business but for the love of coffee. Not only did they advise me against buying certain accessories, but they refused to get paid after I felt that I asked them too many questions (including on weekends) when they recently helped me resolve a machine issue that was completely my fault. A great team and lovely people.

1st Line is FIRST RATE company

I have been a customer of 1st line for years. Jim is SUPER knowledgeable and has been a proponent and innovator in espresso technologies in America. He helped me twice over the years to fix my machine without having to mail it in. He is very smart to help me diagnose my issues over the phone and his recommendations are great. You want expertise, recommendations, customer service, and great prices, call 1st Line and if you are lucky you will reach Jim. (I am a Doctor, very picky and analytical and can be hard to please - Jim and 1st Line get 5 stars!!!)

Purchased a micro care a leva machine

Purchased a micro care a leva machine. Worked great for about 600 cups. Then died. The issue is 1st line will not assist in diagnosing the problem or referring any way to fix. So a lot of money for a short lived machine. It is pretty though.

To save those reading below. Essentially they say “not their problem”. Which is effectively true. However they are the one company you’ll get referred to if you have an issue and you can see the response below. The. They pepper the response with gratuitous insults. Of course no machine lasts forever (and I’d never expect it to) but most last for a reasonable time commensurate with price.

WHEN THE EQUIPMENT IS PURCHASED THROUGH 1ST-LINE: During the warranty period, support is provided to customer's purchases via email or phone (based on the issue). In some cases, the machine would need to be shipped in.

When the warranty has expired, limited support is only provided via the Q&A on our web site, and sometimes via email at our discretion. These are for simple solutions, which can include, but is not limited to, referring to a professional or sending in the machine to us for a paid repair. For multi-level or complicated issues, the machine has to be serviced by a professional.

Please understand the purchase price of the machine does not allow unlimited lifetime support, as you seem to desire in your review, on diagnosing and repairing equipment. If we did this, we would be out of business as parts purchases alone do not support the cost of technicians. Hence, we have limited alternatives once the warranty period expires.

A high majority of customers have no issue with our efficient process.

FOR MACHINES PURCHASED ELSEWHERE: The equipment owner needs to go back to the selling dealer for support and service or search. They earned your business, and they should support you as a customer. As we witness every day with many email and phone requests for free support from non-customers, we have realized that there are a lot of equipment owners who experience poor or no support after their purchase from other businesses. Interesting is some of those sellers refer their customers to us, and we get the blame when they should get the blame.

Unfortunately, since there is a finite amount of tech support persons in our industry, servicing those who did not purchase from us would impact our service levels to our own equipment customers under warranty. Hence, we admit we are not the support center for all the other dealers who just sell machines and forget about their customers, AND we reserve the right of refusal of any service to non-customers just as the customer had the right to choose which vendor the customer purchased equipment from.

1st-line is a fantastic company

1st-line is a fantastic company. I've bought several prosumer espresso machines and grinders from them and they've always been great. I've had a few problems with the espresso machines and Java Jim helped me solve the problems quickly.

It's so nice to deal with a company where people are experts in their field. 1st-line is the only place I will buy espresso equipment. 10/10.

Their reply, after flatly refusing to match the price, and verbatim, is “Unfortunately, we have very limited stock and we do not know when the next shipment will arrive.” If they refuse to honor their own policies, I don’t think that they have any credibility, whatsoever.

I purchased our espresso machine from


I purchased our espresso machine from 1st-line several years ago and I have been blown away by their customer service. The machine has not had any major issues but things wear out over time and the team at 1st-line has always been helpful in diagnosing the problem and providing solutions: either parts required or sometimes videos of how to replace a part. This has saved me several hundreds of dollars as I was able to fix my problems instead of having to pay someone to fix.

Elektra Microcasa a leva

1 st line equipment was outstanding to work with. Very knowledgeable and very fast secure shipping. Machine arrived in perfect working order.
Very happy with the Elektra Microcasa. This makes better espresso than my coffee shop can, with the same beans! Tip: lower the pressure stat about 1/2 a turn. The pressure is set from factory too high. Makes a much sweeter espresso and does not affect steam pressure at all.

Equipment and purchases are fine, but beyond that the customer interface stinks. The website is a mess and you can't call and just talk to a technician.

No, as we explain over the phone and on our hotline, we have specific procedures on tech support for machines out of warranty or not purchased from us. Unfortunately, we can not provide free technical support to the entire world as our technicians are paid on billable time. You do have the option to send your equipment in for repair for a fee. Lastly. we do not see any purchases from us under this name. Have a nice day.
