Dishonest company!! - Old faulty rental cars at a final price higher than anywhere else!!
Over the past years we have rented more than 25 cars from different companies, but this was the first and very last time we rented from Advantage!!
We rented the car in January 2013 from Nice Airport.
First of all the rental company was difficult to find, and not placed together with all the other rental companies.
When we received the papers from the rental company our first bad experiences began:
We were informed that we would receive the car with a full tank, and that we should return it with a tank as empty as possible, as we would have to pay for a full tank afterwards - at a fixed price higher than we could have filled it up for ourselves!! And as we had only rented the car for 5 days we only used 2/3 of the fuel, but had to pay for a full tank!
Furthermore we were informed, that if we returned the car dirty inside (which was explained to us as full of garbage etc.) there would be an additional cleaning fee of 15â¬
When we received the car it appeared to have covered more than 60.000 km.
The outside of the car was full of dents and scracthes. Inside the car we found dirty seats, and on the passenger seat there was a hole burned by a cigarette. We complained to rental company, but they just made a note in their papers about it.
When we made the first stop, we also found out that the hinge for the glove box was broken, and so was the hinge for the hat shelf!
When we returned the car after 5 days, we were very careful that the car was completely empty and with no dirt anywhere.
Nevertheless we were charged 15⬠for cleaning on the invoice. I refused to pay that, an they removed the "cleaning line" on the invoice, and I accepted (as they had my credit card informations the amount would be charged automaticly)
After having argued with the guys in the rental office, I was a bit in a hurry to catch my flight, so what I did not see, was that they had NOT changed the final amount!! - so the final result was:
At Advantage we ended up paying about 20% more for and old faulty car, than we would normally have paid at any other rental company for a nice new car!!!
Stay away from Advantage car hire
We rented the car through Rental Cars. As written below they will ripp you off in any way they can. We paid way ower the local price for the fuel and you have to pay for a full tank. Also the collision damage waiver only cowered scratches. So we had to pay an extra 42 euros for the insurance.
Mixed experience at Pisa Airport
We booked through rentalcars.com as it was cheapest. Next time we'll probably pay a little more and hope for better.
Arrived at Pisa and there was no queue so we had the comprehensive sales pitch to sell us the extra insurance as otherwise we would have to pay â¬1450 excess (this amount was reserved on my credit card anyway and paying â¬14 per day extra wouldn't have changed this). this was boring and time wasting but I had expected it and managed to resist this rip-off.
We were given a free upgrade to bigger car, thank you, and told to go over to collect the car that had no scratches or damage at all, but if we saw anything we should bring it to the attention of the man there. Having been ripped off previously (by Europecar) I knew better than to accept their word but I was surprised to find that the car was covered with scratches, some damaged paintwork, a damaged mirror and 4 damaged hubcaps. Maybe they just save money by having us punters do the work for them or maybe they would just have charged me for the damage if I hadn't spent 20 mins documenting it, either way that could have been better service if they had made an accurate record of the damage instead of telling me there was none.
Car was OK, hadn't been washed, windscreen washer didn't work but nothing serious.
On returning car the man barely checked it (apart from the fuel gage) (but did check the car before me quite thoroughly and found some damage that may or may not have been there before according to the user) and sent me off with the paperwork to the office.
Unfortunately there was a queue of people waiting to go through the insurance sales routine in front of me and each one took 20 minutes so with just one person on the desk, it was an hour before I could drop off the papers. Fortunately we had allowed 2 hours before the flight so we just managed to get the shuttle bus, go through check-in, grab a sandwich to eat through security, and then board with no time to spare.
Could have done without the stress.
Suggested improvements:
Offer insurance with a reasonable excess to start with.
Make sure the damage inventory is complete and accurate.
Wash cars
Fix minor issues (windscreen washer)
have separate pick-up/drop off people on the desk.

CardelMar Partner in Nizza
Die Inkompetenz des CarDelMar Partners in Nizza, ADVANTAGE am Flughafen in Nizza, ist wahrhaft unbeschreiblich.
a) Das diensthabende Personal versuchte die schon vorhandenen Schaeden am ausgeliehenen Fahrzeug nicht einzutragen, also fuer den Ausleiher nicht haftpflichtig zu halten.
b) Man versuchte mir Versicherungen, zusaetzlich aufzudraengen mit pro Tag Euro 45.
c) Das eigentliche Ausleihverfahren dauerte 80 MInuten, obwohl ich der einzige Kunde war.
d) Der Parkplatz des auszuleihenden Fahrzeugs war nicht kennlich gemacht
e) Die Abgabe des Fahrzeuge ebenfalls nicht, da in den uebelichen slots der anderen Verleiher niemand ADVANTAGE kannte, das fuehrte erneute zu hohem Zeitverlust.
Ich kann nur abraten selbige ERfahrungen zu machen. CarDelMar aber raten, einen anderen Partner in Nizza zu finden.

WÀre schön, wenn "billiger-mietwagen" auf der zugemailten Flughafen-Karte den Shuttle-Standort eingezeichnet hÀtte. 2.Problem: Der C-max war zwar gerÀumig, aber fÃŒr Sizilien völlig untermotorisiert. Mit Klima kaum die Berge hoch gekommen!
Paris
Wie gewohnt hat billiger-mietwagen alles gut organisiert. Papiere und Ortsbeschreibung waren tadellos.
Leider gilt das nicht fÌr den ausgesuchten Partner "Advantage rent a car" - ein Tochterunternehmen von Hertz. Der Wagen - ein Chevrolet Spark - war eine einzige Zumutung. Ab etwa 120 km/h begann nicht nur das Lenkrad stark zu vibrieren, sondern auch der Pegel der InnengerÀuche nahm eine unertrÀgliche Höhe an. Dass die Reifen völlig abgefahren waren, habe ich leider erst an unserem Zielort, etwa 650 km von Paris entfernt festgestellt. Die vielen LackschÀden waren dem Vermieter offensichtlich bekannt, wurden von ihm aber erst nach Aufforderung schriftlich festgehalten. Alles in allem: nie wieder Advantage.
