Put your money under the mattress
My late 101 year old mother entered Aged Care in July 2025. We sold her house to raise the necessary funds for the Aged Care facility but the amount was $50,000 short so we paid the difference from our savings.
She had a $20,000 investment with AIMS, so like many others we completed the ‘Hardship’ paperwork to withdraw the funds only to receive $2500 into her account and to apply again (March and September). She passed away in December 2025 and as her financial accounts are part of her Estate, we again requested a refund. Their advice - provide copies of the funeral costs and received $2500 into her account. Ultimately they advised to transfer the account to another family member. This cannot happen - surely this is illegal when it comes to Estates and causes distress to all concerned.
