Purchased 2 new Avon ZV7 tyres 19 months ago , only done 12000 miles and they're worn out !
DO NOT BUY AVON TYRES , RUBBISH

Have for many years purchased Avon tyres and have been very happy with them however as others have reported Avon ZV7 tyres are no longer manufactured in the UK. All 4 fitted to my wife's SLK had an MOT advisory for cracking after only 18 months and 3000 miles. Will not be buying this brand ever again.

Avon ZV7 tyres

Lasted about 2000 miles before the centre of the tread was half (4mm) compared to the outers (7-8mm). Suggests overinflation however tyres were always set to Ford manufacturer recommended pressures and checked every 2 weeks. Tyres sent back to Avon to be told that no manufacturing fault was found. Awful tyres, buyer beware! I certainly won't be buying again after not even a goodwill gesture considering how much out of pocket I was because of their unfit for sale product. Seems as though many others have had similar issues.

Bought a pair of Avon ZV7s 14 months/8k miles ago and they’ve cracked/perished inside the treads already. Not what I’d expected from a brand with such strong racing pedigree. Not deemed fit for purpose any more, a costly mistake I made purchasing these.

A set of Avon ZX7 fitted to my Audi Q7 on 6th October 2021. Have now completed 6487 miles to date of 12th March 2023.
The fault with the tyes is cracking inside the tread.
These tyres were bought because of their reported low noise and otherwise good performance. The general performance and noise levels experianced has been good.
If not for the cracking I would deffinately buy these again, however. due to the premature cracking this does not give me confidence in the tyre. Therefore I do not recommend them and will not be buying them again unless the company can give assurances and simplify the warranty process.

As per the other poster re Avon /Cooper tyres. My situation is almost identical. See extract from my emails and how they have fobbed me off. On my opinion this company deserves what's coming to them.

Bought my Renault megane 2019 second hand.
These Avon tyres were already fitted to the front of the vehicle (so I have no redress on the original tyre fitter).
Today a major tyre fitter looked at my tyres and said they are cracking.
The tyres were apparently only manufactured in 2019.
I am disappointed that these tyres are cracking. What is the warranty guarantee on your tyres please? It is very distressing to have to replace tyres that are only approximately 5 years old.
Would you be able to give me 2 new tyres foc?, or a big discount of say 50/75% from yourselves direct to me? These would obviously be fitted by your nominated tyre fitter in Lowestoft Suffolk.
I am a pensioner and have only a state pension to rely on for my income.
Your kind assistance would be appreciated in this regard.

Our passenger products are covered by our standard limited warranty to the original purchaser, for a period of 6 calendar years from the date of manufacture and are warranted to be  free from defects in material and workmanship in this term. Once the term of warranty is expired all warranties express or implied expire. Proof of purchase is required for any warranty claim and the benefits of this warranty are non-transferrable.

 

Given that you are not the original purchaser of the tyres we are unfortunately not in a position to process the claim. We would also suggest that you contact the vehicle seller to see if they are willing to come to some resolution in respect of your issue with the tyres as sold to you.

I see I have not had a reply / response  to my reasonable request.

I feel I have no option left to me but to report this matter to the government  and put postings on Trustpilot,  etc. (Obviously will not be a good  review, unfortunately).

USELESS IN MY OPINION.
DO NOT NOT BUY AVON TYRES! (COOPER TYRES)!

I have been an Avon fan for nearly 50 years and currently have 4 of their tyres on my SUV. I've just received an MOT advisory warning that the front 2 are perishing, after only 2 years and 6000 miles of normal use (ie no off road use). I've submitted a warranty request to the company and will update this review, based on the response I get.

UPDATE - The response I've received from Avon is that I have to return my car to the garage who fitted the tyres, then get them to remove the tyres and send them back to Avon. That means I have to leave my car sitting on the garage forecourt on its rims for as long as it takes Avon to uplift, examine and report on the tyres. If Avon deem the ZX7s to be faulty, they will refund on the basis of how much tread is left compared to new, but if they think the tyres are 'within normal specification', they will return them to the garage, to be refitted. As an alternative, Avon suggest that I simply buy 2 new tyres, before sending my originals back. That way I don't lose the use of my car, but what happens if they decide that they won't honour my warranty claim? I'll then have 2 sets of tyres! And who pays the garage to do all this work?

If ever there was a procedure designed to hamper a consumer making a warranty claim, then this has to be it. No goodwill from Avon, no acceptance of what an accredited long standing garage or a qualified MOT inspector says. Just a robotic insistence to follow a claims procedure that severely inconveniences customers.

All tyres perish eventually, but not usually after only 2 years and 6,000 miles of normal UK use - and not usually in the valley of the tread (which is dangerous, because it's closer to the structural carcas of the tyre). If my situation was a one off, you could just put it down to bad luck, but a quick internet search reveals plenty of other people with Avon tyres failing in exactly the same way.

Bearing in mind that if you buy Avons and they perish like mine, you will be expected to jump through the hoops I have described above to make a warranty claim, the only logical advice I can give is that consumers avoid buying Avon tyres in the first place.
