Since my daughter has started swimming…
Since my daughter has started swimming lessons, she has come so far from being petrified of getting into a pool. As she is neurodivergent this has helped her immensely with her confidence in herself and in trying new things. The facilities are clean and well cared for and the staff are really polite. A big thank you to Hannah and all the instructors who teach here!!

I went to the gym today
I went to the gym today. There are multiple machines out of order. Some for months. Leg press being the most popular.
The ladies toilet was absolutely disgusting. Why can’t people clean after themselves. The first toilet had no paper.
I actually like the gym. It has a friendly vibe. On this occasion wasn’t great.
Also why have they cancelled Gul’s spin class on Tuesdays. Virtual is so boring.

Excercise machine are worn out and…
Excercise machine are worn out and broken .Equipment is not in good condition as most of exercise equipment is damaged and bad shape not worth to go if you don’t have other choice

Most convenient and always a great atmosphere
Although the sauna/steam were partially working and the water temperature in the showers were fluctuating which made having a shower a bit delayed, I must say out of all the other centres I have been to in the borough, this one is the most convenient, staff are professional and the aqua aerobics on Wednesdays with Karen are always amazing.

I am bitterly disappointed with the…
I am bitterly disappointed with the decision to change the music policy for group classes that have been successfully run and fully enjoyed for decades now. I currently do 8-9 classes, over 4 days of the week, so as you can imagine, they are a huge part of my life. Not only has it contributed to my physical health, but my mental health too. The music played by the instructors was a huge part of that.
Namely the Step Aerobics classes where the app based music is too slow for a meaningful and worthwhile class. For context; I do Step, followed by BodyCon on a Sunday morning. Before the policy change I would have to change my top between classes, but now it is not necessary as I'm hardly sweating, even though the music is the fastest that the app has to offer.
The same for Wednesday evening Step; I used to come home with my top completely soaked, but the last 2 classes was not the case. I have done this class for 11 years now and we use the same CD every week, BY CHOICE; the App based music does not compare. It is just annoying noise and the energy of the Step classes has really suffered. We are not getting out of breath and we are not sweating. What is the point of that? These classes are intermediate/advanced level and we are operating below beginner level. Normally I wake up on a high every Thursday morning, but now I just feel flat. The buzz of Wednesday evening classes has gone because the music is now terrible.
It's very unfair for the instructors who now have the impossible task to try and replicate the same energy and vibe. It is not possible without the same music. Namely UK Garage, UK Funky House, Jungle, Grime. The fact that these genres are all "homegrown", but have not been considered is ridiculous.
The strength classes are just about bearable, but again not enjoyable due to the irritating noise of the app-based music.
Already I have become someone that has to force themselves to come to the gym now; I no longer get the same joy and buzz from the classes and I am obviously not going to continue with my membership if things do not improve. It also leaves a bad taste in my mouth to witness how the instructors are being treated here, just because of money.
The gym classes and our longstanding instructors are a huge part of our community. Their music is integral and it makes the class what it is. There are a few instructors whose classes I choose not to attend, purely because of their music, which is not to my taste.
This is just another thing in a long line that we have seen from Better/GLL which show that they do not have any regard for a) their instructors that have given 25+ years of service. b) their customers who have enjoyed many years of classes with specific music and instructors.
It's also no surprise that it's mainly women who are disadvantaged by this, since it is us that enjoyed the classes.
I have been advised that they believe we should see "little noticeable impact" to our classes, but this is grossly incorrect.
I have also been advised that they have researched and added extra genres like Afrobeats and Bhangra; basically none of the ones I have mentioned earlier.
I hope they see sense and stop this madness.

In late 2025 we became aware that the cost of our current music license that covers all our 250 leisure centres and gyms across the UK would increase significantly. As a charitable social enterprise focused on community benefit, we carefully reviewed our options to ensure we continue to invest our resources responsibly and sustainably.
Following this review, we asked our fitness instructors to transition to PPL pre-cleared, royalty-free music. This approach allows us to manage rising costs while continuing to deliver the high-quality classes you expect.
In practical terms, all instructors are being provided with free access to Power Music; one of the most widely used fitness music platforms. Power Music enables instructors to create their own playlists using professionally recorded studio tracks (not AI-generated), giving them flexibility while ensuring full compliance with licensing requirements.
We hope this provides reassurance and clarity about why we have made this decision, the care we have taken to engage with and support our instructors and our commitment to maintaining your class experience. As we implement these changes we will continue to monitor feedback and engage with staff and customers.

The facilities are easy to book and use. Staff are helpful and patient, they deal with all queries. Have been with Better for about 4 years and have never had an issue.

Awful new music policy
I have been going to these step classes for years and usually love them.However, they have just changed their music policy and the app does not allow fast enough beats or for the teacher to use their own choice.
The usually buzzing, coordinated class led by an excellent teacher was a failure as the music prevented people from keeping rhythm. Lots of people left early and were unhappy.
Please go back to your old music policy or many people will leave your gym

Very Good Staff
Gloria on the desk and the others are very friendly. The place, for the most part, is kept clean, although the changing cubicles can be a bit dirty.
