Uber has destroyed CND.

Hired a Ford van via Uber Carshare (formerly car next door).
I have hired 25 or so vehicles over about 5 years.

This has been my one and only bad experience. The van suffered a major mechanical failure, driving along the Western Ring road in Melbourne, I’m in 6th gear doing 95ish km/h. Engine has a major failure, dumps all the engine oil out the turbo shaft seal. Engine seizes before I can get to the emergency lane.

On a 6 hr hire, it isn’t the hirers duty to check engine fluids. No where in any instructions or rules does it state this. Van owner accepts full responsibility. BUT Uber Carshare? Nooooooo it’s my fault a 15 year old, 380xxx km van has failed. Months of emails saying a decision hasn’t been made to liability, then asking me for help when they cannot contact the van owner.

Waste of time

Came back to Australia. Wanted to rent a car. Phone number attached to my account is now different. Zero ways to log in.

I ring them to get it sorted. After 10 minutes I'm told my account is blocked. No reason given. No way to unblock. Huge waste of time. I got a hertz. Was nit even more expensive

I try to rent a car from uber car share…

I try to rent a car from uber car share and telling can't approve my application!!!!I'm just wondering why???I owe anybody's money or credit ratings too bad to hire a car(744).They don't know how to run a business and I'm wondering how uber give the permission to use their platform.Today I called uber and asking why they don't approve my application..Their answer was weird .Uber should take responsibility if someone using their platform.I already bought a car and they will deliver within 2-3 days but in-between need a car for 1-3days.I just want to know how they judge a person for rent a car?????I can rent a car from no bird or any other company!!Car next door comes from another planet?????

Worst experience ever

Worst experience ever. They said my son smoked in a van and he is banned for life! He has never smoked, and only used it to pick up a TV from a shop for me, was hardly in the van which was dirty and unkempt..but we didnt complain. I'm furious! They charged him $300 to clean it then banned him for life. None of this was mentioned until a week after he gave it back, and how do you photograph smoke? So he has no way of proving his innocence. They also said he went to the beach and had a white dog which left hairs! Also untrue. It was a 45 minute hire and only to save me the delivery charge of a new TV! He has the trip mapped on a phone app to prove where he went, and Newtown isnt near a beach. 2 years of upset and drama..he even paid their $300 cleaning fee to make it go away out of goodwill. We are all fuming...no rights on the side of the hirer

STAY AWAY

I used to love this service (formerly CarNextDoor) and used it a lot for work, but I was banned permanently in an instant because I was accused by an owner of a van of smoking and leaving it with sand and pet dog hairs. Simple as that.

I used it for 45 mins to pick up a TV with my sister - I have no dog, we didn't go to the beach, and I DO NOT SMOKE! Nonetheless they charged me $300 in cleaning fees and banned me permanently from the service - they still refuse to lift the ban even after I've been disputing in vain for 2 years now.

It's now impacting my work. We can't use the service for film shoots or crew transport anymore, so I'm forced to seek legal action - what choice is there? Our production company no longer use Uber CarShare and we advise all agencies we work with to do the same, for their own protection if anything.

If you're a user of this service (as I now tell everyone I know) stay WELL away.

Wow! Believe these bad reviews

Without doubt one of my biggest mistakes using this company, second only to not reading the reviews before I did!

Two years ago I rented a van, which was a wreck, anyway it did the job. 4 weeks later I get a bill for a dent (this van was more dents than it was van). Fought this tooth and nail for TWO YEARS. They claim to have an appeals process, but they don't, as others have said its all clearly a scam. It transpired that the owner opted not to fix the dent on the van (obviously) but claim compensation only. Fought as long as I could, got no appeal, and two years later they have sold my debt to a collection company. Long story short, two years of pain, 2000 dollars down, bad credit and have the shame of being completely scammed, has anyone else seen a company still operating with such bad reviews?

CarNextDoor Was Good UberRideShare is Trash

Happy for the owners getting a good payout but selling to Uber was BIGGEST mistake EVER

Call support to hear 3 kids in the back round screaming and yelling while some bloke was welding what a way to ruin such a good company to outsource to make a few extra bucks!

The damage policy is horrible

The damage policy is horrible. It states that owners can get the car repaired before a decision has been made on whether the borrower is at fault or not. Even if it's a small scratch and the car is still fully functional. The excess insurance is ridiculously high.

There needs to be more protection for borrowers not to get scammed over this. If you are borrowing. Make sure you keep notes of any dents and bumps that are there. It is impossible not to get scammed by this company when borrowing

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. They keep charging from my bank account money. I always finding myself trying to reach to talk someone professional but there is nobody. Terrible company services. Their rent cars really old and in application pictures perfectly. Then they start charging damage fees.

*** READ BEFORE LISTING VEHICLE ***

I have been sharing my car on their site for 3+ years.

Recently my car was stolen. The police believe they are targeting Car Next Door cars - they smashed the window and knew how to open the lock-box (they confirmed it wasn't hot-wired. This means they also knew how to open the lock box very quickly).

My car was stolen BECAUSE it was listed on their site.

Since then the email thread between us and car next door is at 80+ emails.

We have called 10+ times.

We have asked for our case to be escalated 6 times. They refuse to even let me speak to a manager.

Now they simply don't return any emails. They also wont answer the case agent from the repair shop that they hired even though they promised to take care of it all. I ended up having to get the ute out of the police impound myself because they kept contacting the police after 6pm to open the yard - when the detective had gone home). I drove it to their preferred panel beater. Now it is sitting there and Car Next Door aren't doing anything to tell them what to do.

In all my life I have never seen incompetence like this.

Do NOT use them or if you do, don't say you weren't warned.

This has been ongoing for 1 month now - no resolution in sight. I'm currently on hold for the 11th time.

Horrible company

Horrible company. Once Uber took over it turned in a complete shitshow. Consumer affairs needs to look into their malicious business ethics. I have been charged without my consent. I had an open dispute running and they tried to deduct my card for over 800$ without my knowledge. AVOID AT ALL COSTS !! They are trying to make as much money as possible and scam the borrowers. They should not be allowed to run their business in OZ.

This company withdrew money from my…

This company withdrew money from my account illegally.. They wrongly billed me for someone else’s mess and I am still waiting for it to be fixed despite cnd having photographic and other proof it wasn’t me..No customer service , just we will get back to you.. I’m a pensioner with medical problems and I can’t survive if company’s like this keep taking advantage of vulnerable people. It would take one person ten seconds to sort my problem yet they can’t be bothered. Don’t ever use this company. It is a rort.

Scam- Do not use!

We rented a car and they have invoiced us over $2,500 (the excesses is $2,000 so not sure how that is even legal) for damage that we have not done. Annoyingly we did not photograph the top of the car, so the car owner is trying to make us pay for the 'damage' we caused. We have seen the photos of the 'damage' and it looks as though someone has got a key and scratched the top so they could claim from us.... their support team is totally useless and impossible to get hold of. We have asked for any photos from previous renters so we can prove the damage was not us (the van was very old) and radio silence from their team! I honestly do not understand how this is still running a business. Totally uncustomercentirc and love to scam people (think that's their business model)

WARNING DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

WARNING DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY: I used this company for about a year, and after four months, the problems began.

1. Constant cancelations
2. Out of pocket when car cancelled
3. Cars dirty
4. Sent to wrong locations to pickup cars (Out of pocket for Ubers)
5. Vehicles not in a location as mentioned (Out of pocket for Ubers)
6. I had gone to collect a convertible recently. "Weekend passed", and the lady showing me how to use the car did not know what she was doing, the convertible roof broke, and she and her husband accused me; I did not leave or start the car. I called carnextdoor to let them know, asked for a new vehicle and was left out of pocket (4th time now) by $50. On top of everything, Carnextdoor finally rang me back and had the audacity to also accuse me of breaking the convertible's roof that I did not even have to drive out of that carpark. The car owners stood there accusing me and making me feel unsafe, and I had to walk away quickly.

I have requested on numerous occasions for someone in HQ to call me, and all I get is the call centre in the Philippines, no empathy, and they do not help.

When cars are cancelled, especially close to the travel date, be aware you end up paying more and left out of pocket. Although I raise this as Im always on a strict budget, Carnextdoor would say they would cover this cost and either don't or only apply $10 when you are left, in most cases, out of pocket by 50 dollars.

You are better off using a hire car, not this company; otherwise, you will be left feeling stressed, anxious, unsafe and out of pocket.

The worst app ever

The worst app ever. I tried to rent a car for the first time and my application got rejected. I tried with the licence of my partner and as well it was rejected. Are you seriously a real company? They got all my information now. Scammers.

Look at all these reviews. If I didn’t hire cars from them I’d think that these reviews were fake. But I totally understand the frustration of all these other people. They charge your card for fees later and when you call to find out why you’ve been charged you get given the run around by untrained robots. It’s not the employees fault though. They are obviously extremely poorly paid and their English is most of the time terrible. The company obviously uses these employees for the extremely cheap labour and also possibly so that they can get away with the scam of overcharging and fabricating kms driven and hidden illegal fees. But who’s going to waste their time and money to take them to court over a small or medium amount of money. The company is an absolute scam and are here to make a quick dollar out of vulnerable people, from both the customers and the their employees who are clearly severely under trained and lack English skills which makes communication very difficult and wastes an enormous amount of time. Call me a skeptic but like I’ve mentioned I believe this is a tactic used by the company to avoid taking responsibility or action to complaints by customers who believed they have been scammed. Eventually they will get extremely frustrated and give up on their investigation and pursuit of refund. On top of all this I’d say that at least 25% of their cars are completely un roadworthy and would not pass a road inspection. Some of their cars are outright dangerous with bad breaks, tyres and even shonky window wipers which haven’t been replaced in years. This is what happens when the government allows these unregulated companies to run without proper inspections. People get scammed and the vulnerable keep using their services because they don’t have much of a choice. Avoid like the plague or less you’re really desperate and don’t use an account where you store your regular income or savings. Use an account that you may have for only online transactions that you transfer money to when you need to use it, otherwise you might log into your account one day and realise that there is a sum of money missing for some bogus reason. When you call them to find out what’s going on all you get is nonsensical jibberish and a complete waste of time. Stay away or less you have absolutely no other option. The company executives and company owners should possibly be in jail.

I waited for my deposit to be returned…

I waited for my deposit to be returned after I uploaded the final photo of odometer reading through the chat help system.
It was still pending for a few days so I checked again and they told me it was my fault as I hadn’t uploaded the photo. But I had. They told me I should have done it correctly through the app the first time. It isn’t clear and it’s a difficult process. I was also told I returned the car late when I returned it a day early and the owner agreed. Also they take 40% of the earnings! So no, I’ll never use this again.
