Financial loss and disappointment
My experience with Chester & Co Solicitors was poor and fell significantly below what I would reasonably expect from a regulated firm.
One transaction was delayed for over a year. Throughout this period, I was repeatedly advised that the buyer’s solicitor was hindering progress. I have since been informed directly by the buyer’s solicitor that they had in fact been actively chasing Chester & Co for several months, and that the lease documentation produced was not fit for purpose for mortgage lender approval due to missing and incomplete clauses. As a result, the documentation could not be submitted to the lender and exchange could not proceed within a reasonable timeframe.
More recently, the firm declined to complete two further company property sales due to concerns relating to the personal bankruptcy of a former director, despite the company being a separate legal entity and that individual no longer holding a directorial role. Independent legal advice subsequently obtained confirmed that this should not have prevented the firm from acting on behalf of the company.
Overall, the service was characterised by excessive and avoidable delay, inadequate legal work, and unclear communication about the causes of that delay. This resulted in financial loss and the need to instruct another firm to rectify the issues and progress the transactions. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this firm.
