From walking into the shop, being greated by Claire, and not pushed into sales talk, if we needed her help she was around, which was nice.
Gave us time to browse, I did buy a cooker, Claire was fantastic, went through everything with us, in simple terms, I was very impressed with the Colchester branch, I would recommend going there, even to browse, you won't be pounced on, and can look around at your leisure

Lenovo Laptop – Repair Reference 554234

I am submitting a formal complaint regarding the handling of my Lenovo Yoga 7 (2+1) laptop repair under reference 554234.

On 04/08/26, I contacted Curry's Colchester Tollgate for support after the laptop developed a serious display fault. The system became stuck on “Screen 2” and produced a permanent black screen. The multiple‑display options were greyed out and inaccessible, “Make this my main display” could not be selected, and the external monitor could not be enabled. Display settings repeatedly reverted, and prior to this fault the laptop had also been freezing during video playback. I provided all of these details to Curry's technical assistance on 0344561000.

On 06/08/26, I took the laptop to the (Curry's Tollgate Repair and Support Hub). I was informed by staff member Masieleigh that the device would have to be sent to Newark for repair — meaning the “repair hub” was not able to carry out repairs on-site. When I asked how long this would take, I was told it could be up to 28 days, and that this was because I had not purchased a Curry's warranty. I also requested that the repaired device be posted back to me, but was told by Masieleigh that because I had brought it to the store, it would have to be returned to the store. This creates a 30‑mile round trip, despite the laptop being my primary communication device and less than two months old.

I referenced my rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, after which I was issued a Service Docket (554234) and told the laptop would be returned by 14/08/26.

The laptop reached the repair centre on 07/08/26. On 08/08/26, a technician named Will requested my PIN so they could factory‑reset the device if necessary. Based on the outcome, it appears that a factory reset is all that was performed. On 09/08/26, I contacted the centre and spoke to Victor, requesting a full report of the fault and the work carried out. Although he mentioned some details verbally, I never received any written report.

The laptop was returned to Colchester Tollgate at 15:35 on 10/08/26, with no explanation of the fault and no breakdown of the repair. The lack of documentation, combined with the apparent “quick fix”, gives the impression that the repair centre took the fastest route to close the case rather than properly diagnosing the issue.

If the only action taken was a factory reset, this could have been performed at Colchester Tollgate. This would have saved Curry's time and cost, and would have avoided forcing me into another unnecessary 30‑mile round trip. The reset also caused significant inconvenience, requiring me to rebuild the laptop, restore personal files, and re‑establish my working environment.

Given that the laptop was less than two months old, I am extremely disappointed with the level of service, the lack of communication, and the absence of a proper fault report. This falls short of the standard of care expected under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

I request a formal response addressing:

Why a full diagnostic report was not provided
Why a basic factory reset required sending the device to Newark
Why I was told the repair could take 28 days due to not purchasing a Curry's warranty
Why return‑to‑store was enforced despite the significant inconvenience
What steps Curry's will take to ensure this does not happen again
I expect this complaint to be reviewed and responded to promptly. I previously complained about poor service from the same store about a missing chager and USBc cable, this was sent to you by email aswell. The staff never informed me that I needed one and I never asked for one because it should have been in the box, see previous email 12/06/2026 13:22
CURRY'S Make it so difficult to put a written complaint in via Email, I have tried 3 emails but they will not receive them and want to cover up their incompetence and lack of customer service
12/06/2026 13:22 I purchased my old Lenovo 520 from Currys Tollgate Colchester and expeienced no problems, thats why I purchased my Lenovo 7 2+1 from there. Looks like the service from this company has deteriated.
