Avoid: Unreliable and cancelled my booking for knowing my consumer rights
I booked DBM Express Mover for a full packing and removal service scheduled for August 5th, 2026, and paid a 30% deposit of £225. However, when I attempted to review their standard terms and conditions and requested standard legal amendments regarding liability limits and claims timelines, the company completely shut down the conversation.
After being told they would not alter their terms under any circumstances, I agreed to sign the contract anyway. I simply noted that as a consumer, I reserved my right to rely on the Consumer Rights Act 2015 should any of my items be damaged by their staff.
Because I mentioned consumer law, the management panicked and abruptly cancelled my booking with immediate effect, claiming they felt "threatened" by a customer knowing their rights.
Leaving a customer stranded with no moving company just weeks before a moveâsimply because the customer understands their basic legal rightsâis incredibly unprofessional and a complete breach of contract.
Because of their sudden cancellation, I have been forced to source a last-minute alternative (Pickfords), which is costing significantly more. While DBM eventually refunded my deposit after some back-and-forth, they have flatly refused to cover the financial losses caused by their own unlawful repudiation of our agreement.
I will be issue legal proceedings in due course to recover my financial losses. Shocking customer service and completely unreliable - avoid where possible.
UPDATE as of 25th June 2026 - RESPONSE TO DBM:
DBM is inaccurate in its assertion that I explicitly stated that I intended to legally challenge its standard liability terms BEFORE work commenced.
In fact, I stated that I would seek legal advice on the reasonableness and fairness of DMB's terms of it caused damage to my property.
Therefore, a legal challenge to DBM's liability limits would only ever have been initiated if the company actually caused damage to my belongings during the move. Had DBM performed the services safely and without damaging my property, no challenge would have taken place.
It goes to show that the company does not have confidence in its own abilities - if DMB was confident that no damage would occur to my property, it would have proceeded with the move.

After careful consideration, we decided not to proceed with your booking as the breakdown in communication and tone of correspondence meant a constructive working relationship was no longer possible.
As previously stated, your booking for 5 August has been cancelled, and your deposit has been refunded to your account in full. Your explicit statement that you intended to legally challenge our standard liability terms before the work commenced created an unacceptable commercial risk for our company. As a private business, we exercised our legal right to decline service and dissolve the agreement before it took effect. Because a full refund was issued immediately and you have ample time to secure another removal provider, no financial loss has occurred.

Regarding the waiting time, we would like to clarify that you were not charged for the three hours our crew waited for access to the new property. As a seasonal goodwill offer, we had agreed to waive the waiting time until 3:00 PM. While there was initially a misunderstanding on the day of the move, once you reminded us that this had already been agreed with our office, we immediately honored that agreement. We acknowledge that a note should have been added more clearly to the job file, and we apologise for that oversight. However, at no point did we intentionally attempt to charge you for waiting time, and the agreed waiver was fully respected.
As a small reminder, we also provided you with the packing for tv's, screens, mirrors and large frames for free as part of our offer.
Regarding the boxes being placed in the wrong rooms, this is the first time this concern has been raised with us. Had we been made aware of it, we would have been happy to address it.
While we respect your opinion, the review suggests that waiting time charges were applied, which is not the case. We would appreciate it if you could consider updating your review to reflect the full circumstances of the move.

We took the full packing and removal service over two days, which was competitively priced. Interactions with the office were efficient, clear, timely.
Florin, Marian and Petru showed up on time and were incredibly efficient, polite, considerate, trustworthy, resourceful, quick and reassuring. They couldnât have made things easier for us. They handled our items with care and wrapped everything really carefully, disassembled and reassembled our furniture, and were top-notch in all regards. Communications ahead of the move (quote, questions and answers) were also excellent and of all the movers we had looked into, they were also the best in that area. Their T&Cs are very clear and very fair. Pick up of the crates a week after the move took about 2 minutes and they showed up bang on time. I highly recommend them and would work with them again! The best movers I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with.

Great experience
The office team were clear and practical when we had a video call to assess our moving needs. They were also understanding and pragmatic when our move date kept changing.

The move
The lads were respectful of our stuff and helpful. There understanding of English wasnât great so some boxes were put in the wrong rooms and some were carried upside down, probably because they couldnât read that well.
The women that I dealt with over the phone was very helpful and the team were spot on with the amount of trucks estimated that we would need.
Price was a little higher than expected but they knew I had a cancellation and need a service asap so probably took advantage of the situation a little.
Canât say I blame them, itâs a business at the end of the day.

Efficient, reliable movers
We had a 3 bed flat. A thorough pre move video assessment was completed. George and the team arrived at 8am and were very efficient able to pack on the day and move us out by the scheduled time.
