Wonderful staff, clean and good selection of cars. Extremely smooth process of rental and wonderful service. Will always come here when I need to rent a car

What an absolute joke of a car hire company this is. I booked a car through rental cars at short notice, I chose this location as it was non airport and open till late. I booked for 6:30pm collection, at 6:15 I had a call from the local representative to ask me how long I’d be. When I got there, there were no signs at all for Drivalia, just an office block. After walking round for 10-15 minutes, the representative came down.
He asked if I would like to take out the enhanced cover, which was more expensive than hiring the car itself! He shown me to my car and commented that he was then going home, I asked how that works if they’re open till 8pm, what happens if someone books a car for collection later on, he said he would just come back. It’s now clear this business is ran terribly!
As soon as I got down the road, it flashed up with a ‘service due’ warning. I tried to call back but there was no answer. I sent an email to the email address I had and received a bounce back to say the inbox wasn’t monitored.
I checked the oil and drove the car as I had work commitments (hence the last minute booking). The car was fine until I was setting off to drive 220 miles home (London to Manchester)
I set off and could smell a burning smell, I pulled over and stopped the car. It would then not turn back on.
I called the Drivalia breakdown number and was passed from pillar to post. Eventually a mechanic was arranged and he attended approx 90 minutes later, he was from an external business and he was great, he diagnosed that the alternator had gone and recovery would be necessary. I waited a further 90 minutes for recovery- again when the recovery man turned up he was great.
I was taken to Drivalia branch at Heathrow and the terrible service continued.
I was told to take a seat and wait, I waited and watched as approx 6 workers messed about, in and out, smoking, chatting to friends- all the while the customer queue was building. At this point I was still 5 hours from home and it’d been over 4 hours since I broke down. There was absolutely no customer service or sense of urgency, I had to ask for an update multiple times and each time I was told ‘my car was being prepared’.
The customer toilets were out of order and the stench of cigarette smoke in the place was disgusting.
Eventually I was asked to sign for a new car and given the keys, no vehicle check- nothing.
There were scratches all over the car, I highlighted this to one of the workers and was told ‘just take a video and keep it for your records babe’
Then it came to returning the car to the Manchester site and there was no one there again!
I called the number and was told, ‘leave the car in one of the bays and put the car key on the drivers side wheel’
What a farce of a company!
Of course I refused to do this and I had to call back multiple times for someone to actually attend the site, someone turned up who could barely speak English and certainly had no clue about hire contracts. I explained that I’d had to change the car and he had no idea what I was talking about- not his fault, I got the impression he was not customer facing and the person who was customer facing was no where to be seen.
After waiting for nearly half an hour, I ordered an uber to get home and lo and behold this person had disappeared. I was left no choice but to leave the key with the car and I called again and spoke to someone to tell them this.
From start to finish this process was a disaster, the breakdown was unfortunate and was no one’s fault but how it was dealt with by Drivalia was absolutely shocking.
I would never ever use this company to hire a car again and I would suggest you look for a more professional company to hire from

Absolutely abysmal experience. The man serving was rude and intimidating to my wife. There were extra documentation and inflated charges that were not were not made clear at booking. We cancelled, do not reccomend.

The staff at the Manchester City center branch repeatedly went above and beyond, in terms of general service & payment deals. I had a flat tyre, called them, and within 30 minutes my tyre was replaced in a different city!

Amazing customer service, booked a small car with them, ended up getting delayed and couldn’t make it until closing time! One of the lads called Sally ended up staying late to accommodate! Really appreciate it
