Do not buy
Bought a focus jam2 electric mountain bike just under a year ago. Absolute disgrace. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! The sensors no longer work, I have no power at all. I now have to pedal a bloody tank of a machine. Cost £2800. I'm so upset I don't have the words to express myself. Please if you read this take note and save yourself a lot of cash.
I've bought Focus Cayo road bike atâŠ
I've bought Focus Cayo road bike at Melbourne bicycle store at Melbourne Bicycle Centre Prahran two year ago. The bike frame under 5 years warranty. But my bike had small cracked on right hand side's seat-stay. They are not give me a warranty because it's not a manufacturing defect. So I've to look a new frame to build it. What is the 5years warranty for?
How come the Focus carbon frame is so easy cracked, I read some other comment about Focus bike, it say Focus carbon it's easy to cracked which means the carbon quality not good enough?
Regards,
Simon
I've owned a Focus Jam2 ebike since NovâŠ
I've owned a Focus Jam2 ebike since Nov 17' and tbh it has been a great product up until it died 4 weeks ago. Torque sensor failure so off it went back to Madison via the LBS ONIT cycles Porthcawl.
ONIT have rung Madison a number of times and they are very slow to respond. Bike was there a week and with some chasing it went into the workshop and diagnosed the issue. Parts will then take 1 to 1.5 weeks to arrive (??) and the latest is that it's in the workshop getting fixed for the past 2 days. How difficult is it to swap a motor out?
LBS told me to complain direct to FOCUS which I have just done.
It does put me off recommending such a great product as the warranty work is slow and there is little communications.
Shame as the product is great until it breaks then you best have a spare bike to cover a month or two for them to sort it out.
Update: a week later it was finished and ready to be sent however they would not ship unless there is a battery spec box to put the bike in. FOCUS was then contacted to send a box from Germany. I gave up and told the shop that I'd pick it up myself so 100 miles driven and at least I've got the bike.
I also found out that when it was shipped into Madison the box broke and now the front brakes are broken. Another week and a free set of brales out of the LBS and it's good to go.
FOCUS did tell me that motor failures are rare (0.5%) however if you are one of them it's a 4-6 week process.
Focus Mountain ebike poor customer service
I have acquired a Focus Jam 2 with the additional battery pack. On the first day of use the additional battery cable was lost while descending on a normal slope. The magnet type attachment is questionable. The shop that sold l'e the bike does not represent Focus anymore. So I wrote to Focus customer service directly. They asked me to go through another local dealer and they would ship it to him. Which I did. One week later they ask for 85 ⬠to replace the cable! I sent a customer complaint 15 days ago with no answer from Focus nor the dealer (Cyclable). Therefore, although the bike is great I cannot recommend it for future purchase as the customer service is so poor.
update on july 30th. The freewheel broke last friday. I went back to the shop I purchased the bike from. They seemed to know about that potential defect...Focus to take under warranty. The bike is 2017 and only 800 km. I would recommend to have it checked by your dealer as you could find yourself stuck in the wild...
update on august 22nd. Went back to the shop yesterday. They had not received the new wheel yet. Finally received it today august 22 nd replaced by a new wheel including Deore freewheel. The salesguy told me the serial freewheel was s...t.
They will not take the missing cable under warranty despite me having no bike for a month! I ordered it on August 21st, still waiting for it on september 6th...
Have been told by a dealer in Switzerland that indeed Focus after sales service is very poor. It is common to wait 30 days for a spare part. He sales a number of different e bikes including Focus and recommends Specialized in terms of after sales service.
Focus Jarifa i29 ebike (MTB) - Excellent
I bought a 2017 model Focus Jarifa i29 ebike back in January. This 250w pedelec (no throttle) chromolly frame hart'sail ebike with 700/29inch wheels (23mm rim and 2.25 inch Continental Race King SL) , 612Wh integrated cables and integrated removable battery (longer range), Impulse Evo RS mid-drive motor with 80 Nm of torque, 10 speed Shimano Deore groupset, Suntour XCR Air dork with 100 mm travel. Drop seat not included.
This is a powerful, great ride (although heavier (all ebikes are given motor and battery) than I expected as I usually run on a carbon fibre road bike). It's got great range and great power. Being speed limited to 27km/h in Australia, I cruise with motor assist on the flats and cruise up the hills with motor assist. Easily climbs steep Brisbane hills with my 100kg weight. Great clean paint finish. Lovely design.
After market, I added pannier rack, panniers (a pair of Ortlieb back rollers), zefal mudguards, seesense icon lights, and VP-R62 Dual platform SPD clipless pedals. This is primarily a commuter for me (30km each way not for off-road), as well as reducing my reliance on a vehicle, (including for shopping and short trips). Success. I reckon I could add a trailer no trouble at all.
I paid less ($3500 AUD) because the model had been updated. Service has been great. Thanks RT Cycles Cleveland.
The only gripe I've had is the after market Zefal mudguards. Part of the front guard has fallen off a couple of times. Now fixed with a zip tie.
